I am researching the ORR's of Hardy Co. Do you know where I can find information on this

Any advice would be deeply appreciated. Thank you, Marliese

WELTON - WILLIAMS
I am trying to find the parentage of William and Joseph
WILLIAMS who married WELTON sisters. The girls were the daughters of William
WELTON of Hardy/Hampshire county. William WELTON and his family left Virginia
before 1800 to live in Knox county, Indiana. William WELTON's father was John
WELTON who died in 1767 or so. So far I have not been able to connect the
WILLIAMS boys to any of the WILLIAMS from Hardy, but they traveled with the
WELTONs on their move from Hardy to Knox Co., In. William WILLIAMS was born in
the late 1770's. Thank you.

BEAN - JOHNSON - JOHNSTON - VEATCH
Am interested on any information about Hanson VEATCH (Henson VEACH)
1764-1835/36, who m. Elizabeth BEAN 1762-1842 probably in Hardy County
late 1780s or early 1790s but before the dates on records on this
website. She was daughter of George BEAN who d. 14 Aug 1797 in the
county and granddaughter of Robert BEAN who d. 1790/91.
Also the family which Hanson & Elizabeth's son Thomas married into.
He married Catharine JOHNSTON, daughter of Rev. John and Hannah JOHNSTON,
her maiden name unknown. I have Thomas and Catharine's marriage from the
Hardy County Website, and have discovered that Rev. John JOHNSTON was a
Presbyterian Minister in Hardy County from at least 1790 through 1819,
because he is listed as performing marriages during those years. I have
been through the book "History of Grant and Hardy Counties, West
Virginia" by E. L. Judy of Petersburg, WVA, Charleston Printing Company, Charleston, WVA,
1951, to get this information. A John JOHNSTON family is also listed
in the 1782 or 1784 Heads of white families in that book, along with
several John JOHNSON families.
Hannah JOHNSTON b. 18 Nov 1777 Virginia [place based on 1850 Census], d.
10 Aug 1858 in or near Fairbury, Livingston County, Illinois, buried
Avoca Cemetery, Livingston County. She was living with her widowed
daughter Catharine VEATCH in 1850.

CLEAVER - RIGGLEMAN
I am researching my late husband's family who were all from Hardy County, WV, specifically
Moorefield. My husband was Lemuel Albert CLEAVER III, born Apr 1, 1949 on the Cleaver
family farm in Moorefield. His father was Lemuel Albert CLEAVER II and his mother was
Tressie Violet RIGGLEMAN of Petersburg. All these individuals are deceased so it makes it
very difficult for me to gather information. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thank you for your time.

CLAYPOOL - DUNBAR - SCOTT - SLATER
I recently made my second visit to the Miller/Claypool cemetery in
Mathais, Hardy Co, WV, the first being almost exactly two years ago,
and found that in the intervening time someone had reset one of the
stones and added 4 modern stones at the bases of the older CLAYPOOL
stones. While we were there, my wife uncovered the almost entirely
buried headstone of Jane CLAYPOOL, d. June 2, 1768.
Whoever left the modern stones and I disagree as to which of the
older stones was Jane's. He (probably a Claypool descendent from
Kentucky or North Carolina who also left $100 for mowing, according
to the woman who owns the property the trail to the graveyard is on),
labeled what I take to be James's footstone as Jane, having re-erected it next to James's head
stone, and put a marker identifying what I had thought to be Jane's as "Mother Rachel". My
wife's discovery proves us both wrong. Clearly the stone inscribed with
Jane's name is hers and not either of the other two.
So, now the questions come, "Who was the mysterious benefactor of the
graveyard?" and "What were his sources of information?"
Or does anyone have any other info about the Miller Cemetery and the
Claypools buried there?

CLARK - COMBS - COOMES - WILKINS - WILSON
My father, Eston COMBS, was constable in the George Washington Forest area sometime
betweem 1915 and 1930. I would like to know what newspaper and when this was reported.
Also my grandfather Julius Marion CLARK was born 4/16/1850 and died 12/24/1945. Julius
was app. 11 years old when he witnessed the shooting of his father John Henry CLARK while
cutting wood by renegades of the civil war. I would like to find something that verifies this
information. The family lived in the Fabius, Needmore area of Hampshire County which later
became Hardy County.
I would also like to hear from anyone who may be familiar with the COMBS (COOMES),
CLARK, WILKINS and WILSON families from the same area. Sincerely, Irmadel Combs Dun.

New Creek Cemeteries
Am trying to search all New Creek cemeteries for family ancestors, but they keep coming up as
having been removed (This is on a link from Hardy Co. to WV cemeteries.)
The cemeteries are: New Creek, and the rest mainly family names, except for one called Old

dead, but I am not just sure how to contact someone in the area who might know.
Do you have any suggestions? Anything you can tell me would be appreciated.
