Eugalee Asbury
Eugalee Asbury, 67, of Dry Creek, formerly of Chicago, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1935, in Rhonda, she was the daughter of the late French Mullins and Launa Pettry Mullins Workman.
Mrs. Asbury was a member of Naoma Freewill Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Imareen Joyce Bone.
She is survived by her husband, Joe Asbury; her daughter, Jo Ann Hartoonian of Chicago; two sons, Harold Lee Asbury of Chicago and Terry Joe Asbury of Dry Creek; two sisters, Nancy Manning of Dry Creek and Irene Frampton of Marmet; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Armstrong Funeral Home, Whitesville, with the Rev. Larry Kinder officiating. Burial will follow in Jarrell Cemetery, Dry Creek.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Evelyn K. Blair, beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, passed away Monday, June 17, 2002, in Fort Myers, Fla.
Born Oct. 25, 1922, in Huntington, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Bessie Kincaid. She grew up in Beckley and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and Beckley College.
Evelyn is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Elmer Blair, and her loving daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Bob Freehill of Florissant, Colo., Connie and Bill Clark of Williamsburg, Va., Debby and Rich Donahue of Captiva Island, Fla., and Donna and Ray Dyer of Clarksville. Other survivors include her sisters, Mary Houchins of Beckley, Mildred Cornett of Falls Mills, Va., and Wilma Kincaid of Jacksonville, Fla.; her grandchildren, Kevin Moll, Ken Moll, Chris Clark, Jason Clark, Melissa Talmage, Brett Donahue, Karein Donahue and Heath Dyer; four great-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Kincaid of MacArthur; and her beloved grandchild, Blair Dyer of Clarksville.
She loved fishing, playing bridge and her family. Evelyn and Elmer resided at 1222 Madison St., Clarksville, for 44 years.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Christian Church, 516 Madison St., Clarksville. Graveside service and burial will be 9 a.m. July 12 in Arlington National Cemetery.
Evelyn's last days were treated with respect and dignity by the beautiful, dedicated staff at Hope Hospice House, 9470 Health Park Circle, Fort Myers. Memorial contributions can be made to Hope Hospice House of Fort Myers or to the American Cancer Society.

OAK HILL - Mary Frances Copper Frasier, 77, died Sunday, June 16, 2002, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 28, 1925, in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter of the late Bernard Franklin and Betty Elizabeth Kirby Copper.
Mrs. Frasier was a homemaker and a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill.
She was preceded in death by a son, Bernard Donovan Frasier; and two brothers, Bernard W. and Isaac Gardner Copper.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Bill Donovan Frasier; two sons, Wayne Frasier and wife, Jane, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Gary Frasier and wife, Luetta, of Oak Hill; two daughters, Susan Harlan and husband, Tom, of Fayetteville and Debra Ann Elizabeth Persinger of Oak Hill; two sisters, Dorothy Raley of Huntingtown, Md., and Myrtle Elizabeth Miller of Fairfax, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. today at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Oak Hill, with Father John McDonough officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.
Friends called 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, where a Christian wake service was held at 8 p.m.

SUN HILL - Azil "Robert" Harvey, 76, died Monday, June 17, 2002 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born Dec. 18, 1925, at Sun Hill, he was the son of the late Lorne and Sarah Belcher Harvey.
Mr. Harvey was a grader operator for the West Virginia Division of Highways and a former coal miner. He attended Sun Hill United Methodist Church and was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County.
Mr. Harvey was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
He was preceded in death by a son, Dallas Harvey; four brothers, Quincey, Finley, Casey and German Harvey; and two sisters, Hazel and Madeline Harvey.
Survivors include a daughter, Nadean Ford of Oceana; a son, Ron Harvey and his wife, Patti, of Jesse; a very special friend, Betty Harvey of Sun Hill; four grandchildren, Genene Ford Blankenship of Clarksville, Tenn., Chrystal Ford Nichols of Christiansburg, Va., Andrea Harvey Fraley of Daniels and Brandon Harvey of Jesse; a great-grandson, Drake Blankenship of Clarksville; several nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sun Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roger Holcomb officiating. Burial will follow in Harvey Family Cemetery, Cedar Creek.
Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, Oceana, and one hour before service Thursday at the church.

PAGE - Eugene "Bert" Harvey, 36, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at his home following a short illness.
Born June 9, 1966, in Montgomery, he was the son of Grace Ann Kerwood Harvey of Page and the late Carl Kenneth Harvey.
Mr. Harvey was a newspaper carrier.
Other survivors besides his mother include five brothers, Carl Franklin Harvey, Edward Ray Harvey, Stanley Gene Harvey, James Allen Harvey and Dallas Keith Harvey, all of Page; four sisters, Carolyn Lee Reichard of North Carolina, Judy Anne Smith of Glen Jean, Brenda Lee Harvey Lambert of Noth Carolina and April Lynn Stamper of North Carolina; and best friends, Tammie Blankenship of North Carolina, Timmy Hall of Oak Hill, Eddy Foster of Virginia and Michael and Rebecca Taylor of Robson.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Oak Hill, with the Rev. Virgil Morrow officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery.

VICTOR - Helen McGraw, 82, died Monday, June 17, 2002, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born April 26, 1920, at Clifty, she was the daughter of the late Vida Marie Carte Kesler and Edgar Austin Kesler.
She was married to Millard McGraw, who preceded her in death on April 10, 1989.
She was a homeamker and a member of the Eastern Star of Ansted.
Survivors include two daughters, Cara Lee McGraw and Mary Ruth Praglowski, both of Baltimore; two sons, Robert Austin McGraw, retired Navy, and William Kesler McGraw of Victor; two sisters, Freda Rider of Charleston and Eileen Jones of Lexington, Ky.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home Chapel, Ansted, with the Rev. Greg Auxier officiating.
Burial will follow in Kesler Memorial Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Hico.

FAYETTEVILLE - Velma Dodd Payne, 92, of Fayetteville and Tequesta, Fla., died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at her home in Fayetteville following an extended illness.
Born April 10, 1910, in Walton, Roane County, she was the daughter of the late C.I. Dodd and Allie Daughtery Dodd.
Mrs. Payne was a member of Fayetteville Christ Fellowship Church and former co-owner of Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, for 50 years.
Her husband, Donald Award Payne, preceded her in death in 1978; her son, Donald A. Payne Jr.; and a brother, Chauncey Dodd.
Survivors include her son, Charles F. Payne Sr. of Fayetteville; a daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Payne of Jupiter, Fla.; four grandchildren, Dr. Charles F. Payne Jr. of Singer Island, Fla., Stephen Payne and his wife, Trena, of Mount Lookout, Beverly Spangler and her husband, Larry, of Fayetteville and Cheryl Payne and her children, Jarrod and Chelsea, of Fayetteville; a brother, Charles E. Dodd of Webster Springs; two sisters, Virginia Clinebell of Fayetteville and Grace Geary of Yorktown, Va.; and devoted caregivers, Mary Sears, Jean Rider, Esther Morey and Doretha Rainey.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Revs. Robert Morey and Leon Nunley officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville.

MULLENS - Phyllis French Cole, 81, died Monday, June 17, 2002, in Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, following a short illness.
Born March 13, 1921, in Oakvale, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Carrie Belle Williams Boyd.
Mrs. Cole was a 57-year resident of Mullens, a former job training instructor at Mullens High School, past president and member of Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 2377 of Beckley, past conductor and inside guard at the State Fraternal Order of Eagles, past president, past secretary and member of the Women of American Legion Post 106 and a member of Mullens United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold R. Cole; a sister, Evelyn N. Boyd; and a nephew, Steve Cole.
Survivors include her daughter, Drema J. Perley and her husband, Lee, of Woodbridge, Va.; a brother, Charles W. Boyd and his wife, Janis, of Sandstone; four stepgrandchildren, Jammy MacDonald, Melissa Fitzgerald, Geoffrey Perley Jr. and Terry Perley; three nephews, William C. Boyd and his wife, Darlene, Terry Cole and his wife, Joyce, and Rusty Cole and his wife, Carol Sue; two nieces, Teresa Cole Nelson and her husband, Arvin, and Nancy Cole.

Charles H. Earehart Jr., 76, of 515 N. Lilly Drive, Beckley, died at 8:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at the Beckley Veterans Administration Medical Center following a long illness.
Born Nov. 26, 1925, in Hinton, he was the son of the late Charles Houston Earehart and Juanita Andrews Earehart.
Mr. Earehart was president and owner and operator of Charlie Earehart Dodge and Jeep Inc. since 1959.
He was a World War II U.S. Army paratrooper serving in the Philippines, Japan and New Guinea. He served on the American Motors Advisory Board for nine years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Beckley and was a very generous man in his own private ways and was always caring for others.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dillard and William "Bill."
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Louise Broyles Earehart; children, Tommy Earehart and wife, Pat, of Beckley, Lindy Epperley and husband, Reed, of Beckley, and Connie Blackburn Epling and husband, Larry, of Beckley; brothers, Andy Earehart and wife, Pat, of Beckley and Howard Earehart and wife, Alma, of Beckley; sisters, Virginia Spencer and husband, Artie, of Covington, Va., Lyda Tingler of Grandview, Betty Daniel of Beckley, Norma Dakos and husband, William, of Fort Myers, Fla., and Juanita Smith and husband, Gene, of Beckley.
Charlie's Angels (his nine grandchildren) include Christy Earehart Clark, Libby Epperley, Tonya Earehart Laxton, Lori Epperley, J.J. Blackburn, Chip Epperley, Charlie Blackburn, Lindsey Epperley and Ashley Earehart; and five great-grandchildren also survive.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, 422 Neville St., Beckley, with Dr. Rick Metrick, assisted by the Rev. Mark Schrade, officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

DUNBAR - Emma Jose-phine Bailes Erdely, 85, passed away at her home Wednesday, June 19, 2002, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
She was born May 16, 1917, on Beury Mountain to the late Lewis B. and Elizabeth Harmond Bailes.
During the last 54 years, she was a resident in the Charleston and Dunbar areas. Emma was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother.
She attended Rebecca Chapel in Dunbar and was a homemaker.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by siblings, Harrison, Daisy, Frances, Perlina, John A., Frank and Raymond.
Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Francis Erdely; two sons, Howard Bailes and wife, Trudy, of Charleston and Tom Bailes and wife, Jo, of Baytown, Texas; a stepson, Francis Erdely Jr. and wife, Sharon, of Ocoee, Fla.; a brother, James Bailes of Oak Hill; a sister, Viola Murphy of Severn, Md.; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Chapel, Rainelle, with the Rev. Ernest A. Martin officiating. Burial will follow in The End of The Trail Cemetery, Clintonville.

MOUNT HOPE - Edith O. Suttle Kincaid McGinnis went home to meet the Lord on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Born in Fayette County, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mason and Agnes Grey Suttle; her first husband, James Ray Kincaid; and her second husband, Robert Lee McGinnis.
She had been residing with and taken care of by her granddaughter and her husband, Mike and Ruby Lambert; and great-grandchildren, Chrissy and Jake Lambert.
Other survivors include two sons, Bobby Kincaid of Mount Hope and Virgil Kincaid of Glen Jean; and two daughters, Brenda Crabill of Laurel, Md., and Rita Kerbawy of Wilmington, N.C.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Service will be 4 p.m. Friday at Tyree Funeral Home, Mount Hope, with the Rev Jessie Parker officiating. Cremation will follow.

HINTON - Margaret Sue "Sissy" Nichols, 57, of 1491 Summers St., died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at her home following a one-year illness.
Born Dec. 6, 1944, in Hinton, she was the daughter of the late John D. O'Neal II and Margaret Louise Craft O'Neal.
Mrs. Nichols was a former employee of the Berkeley County Deputy Assessor's Office and also was a former employee of the Three Rivers Edge Store in Hinton.
She was a 1962 graduate of Hinton High School and attended Washington Bible College. She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband of 38 years, Thomas Andrew Nichols; two sons, Thomas Andrew Nichols Jr. of Summerville, S.C., and Michael Scott Nichols of Hedges-ville; a brother, John D. O'Neal III of Hinton; and a grandson, Elijah Andrew Nichols.
Service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Pivont Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with Pastor Dallas Peyton officiating. Burial will follow in Restwood Memorial Gardens, Hinton.

HINTON - Mark M. Rogers, 89, of 104 Central Ave., died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, in Summers County Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.
Born Nov. 5, 1912, at Forest Hill, he was the son of the late John H. and Mattie F. Webb Rogers.
Mr. Rogers was a former employee of Celanese Corp. in Narrows, Va., and was co-founder of Rogers Farm Supply. He was a former employee of R.T. Rogers Oil Co. in Hinton. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church, Forest Hill, serving many years as a trustee.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Lilly and Glenna Hutchison; and two daughters-in-law, Clarene and Dorothy Rogers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Kathryn "Katty" Saunders Rogers; two sons, Dr. M. Neil Rogers and wife, Helen, of Bloomington, Ind., and R.T. "Ted" Rogers and wife, Susan, of Hinton; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Fantuzzo and husband, Don, Jennifer Nicholson and husband, Dave, Allison Gallo and husband, Mark, Mark Rogers and wife, Bridgette, Doug Rogers and wife, Kim, Greg Rogers, Jan Crouthamel and husband, Tom, Sarah Kane and husband, James, Jennifer Brown and husband, Kevin, Jade Brown and wife, Luisa, Jennifer Riggleman and husband, Phil, and Meg Hodge and husband, Johnny; and 30 great-grandchildren.

HARVEY - Odessa Willie Scruggs, 71, died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following an extended illness.
Born May 28, 1931, in Dewitt, she was the daughter of the late Linzy Adkins and Lucy Branch Adkins.
Mrs. Scruggs was a homemaker and a member of Harvey Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by twin daughters, Faith Ann and Hope Diane; two grandchildren; four brothers, Archie Adkins, Edward Adkins, Linzy Adkins Jr. and Joe Adkins; and three sisters, Lizzy Hubbard, Julie Brown and Jolette Daniels.
Survivors include two sons, Landon Scruggs of Harvey and Keith Scruggs and wife, Tammy, of Lackwanna, N.Y.; five daughters, Thelma Scruggs of Harvey, and Marion Scruggs, Joberta Allen and husband, Emmett, Debra Allen and Fran Allen and husband, Leslie, all of Mount Hope; a brother, Wesley "Pete" Adkins of Harvey; a sister, Helen Jacobs of Toledo, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Gladys M. Reins Stiltner, 84, of Beckley, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness.
Born Aug. 18, 1917, in Phelps, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Richard and Rozetta Honaker Reins.
Mrs. Stiltner was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She enjoyed embroidery, sewing and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Stiltner; a son, William White Jr.; a daughter, Mary Mageline Stiltner; a brother, Robert Reins; and a sister, Nancy Workman.
She will be sadly missed by five sons, Harold Stiltner and wife, Louvina, of Pineville, Carl Lee Stiltner and wife, Beatrice, of Conneaultville, Pa., Eddie Ray Stiltner and wife, Linda, of Matheny, F.G. "Dick" Stiltner and wife, Rhonda, of Jesse and James Stiltner and wife, Becky, of Oak Hill; eight daughters, Gatha Sykes and husband, Harold, of Rogersville, Tenn., Ella Mae Pike of Linesville, Pa., Lucille Nier and husband, William, of Kingsport, Ind., Sarah Elizabeth Dotson of Stephenson, Margarett Ann Beasley and husband, Jimmy, of Freeburn, Ky., Patty Joyce Johnson of Beckley, Donna Gayle Thorn of New Richmond and Debra Lynn Stiltner of Beckley; a sister, Ocie Dotson of Stopover, Ky.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

PYLESVILLE, Md. - Iris Fay Windon, 64, died at her home at 6 p.m. Monday, June 17, 2002. She was the wife of Sidney Herbert Windon. They observed their 28th wedding anniversary on July 5, 2001.
Mrs. Windon was born in Beckley on Feb. 3, 1938, a daughter of Emma Doreen (Gilkerson) Morris of Prosperity and the late Aubrey Shirkey.
She moved to Harford County from Baltimore County in 1968. A homemaker, Mrs. Windon was a devoted and loving grandmother and a wonderful cook.
In addition to her husband and mother, she is survived by three daughters, Emma Beall and her husband, Mike, of Conowingo, Md., Tina Brown and her husband, Richard, of Fawn Grove, Pa., and Lisa Stickline of Pylesville, Md.; three sons, John Akin and his wife, Kathy, of Street, Md., Ronald Akin and his wife, Joyce, of Cardiff, Md., and Da-niel Shirkey and his wife, Lisa, of Herndon, Va.; four brothers, Franklin Shirkey of Ohio, Lonnie Morris of Prosperity, Mark Morris of Prosperity and Lloyd Morris of Ohio; four sisters, Judy Kilheffer of Baltimore, Betty Duckworth of Abingdon, Md., Drema Calhoun of Ohio and Kitty Asbury of Baltimore; 12 grandchildren, Adam Beall, Charlotte Akin, Tony Sproul, Jason Beall, Trisha Sproul, Michelle Akin, Gina Stickline, Tina Stickline, Ashley Akin, John Akin Jr., Danny Shirkey and Taylor Shirkey; two great-grandchildren, Christopher Fisher and Seath Beall; and her stepfather, Bobby Lee Morris of Prosperity.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ralph Miller in 1979.
Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta, Pa., with the Rev. Clarence E. Rowland of Baptist View Church, Forest Hill, Md., officiating. Interment will follow in St. Paul's Cemetery, Pylesville, Md.

Faye Palmer Miller Coponiti, 87, a lifelong resident of East Beckley, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2002, following a long illness.
Mrs. Coponiti was a loving mother, wife and friend. She greatly enriched the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Aubrey Miller in 1961 and Tony Coponiti in 1980; her parents, Lula and W.E. Palmer; and six brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth Michael Miller and wife, Susan Sprague Miller, of Cool Ridge; a grandson, Michael Miller of Texas; a granddaughter, Jennifer Norris of New Mexico; a grandson, Bryan Miller of California; eight great-grandchildren; and her brother, "Scrap" Palmer of North Carolina.
Private graveside service will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley.

TROY, N.Y. - Sandra Kay Moore Davenport, 53, of Lansingburgh, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, in Community Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital after a long illness.
The proud daughter of a coal miner, Sandra was born in Beaver on Oct. 16, 1948. She was the daughter of Eva Stover Moore of West Virginia and the late Charles J. Moore and wife of Allan E. Davenport of Lansingburgh. They were married on Aug. 31, 1967, while Allan was on leave from a tour of duty in Vietnam.
Sandra was a graduate of Shady Spring High School in West Virignia. She moved to upstate New York in 1966. Sandra worked for General Electric where she met her husband, Allan. She was a homemaker most of her life. She was a member of VFW Post 7062, Altamont.
She will be greatly missed for her sweetness and understanding; her love and empathy; her humor and wisdom; and her heart that embraced us.
Survivors in addition to her husband and mother include her beloved daughters, Lien L. Curtin of Troy and Allison K. Davenport of Waterford; her adored grandchildren, Kaitlyn M. Curtin and Charles P. Curtin of Troy; son-in-law, and friend, William F. Curtin of Troy; cherished brother and sisters, Curtis Moore of Malta and Catherine Stewart of Virginia and Patricia Lilly of Beaver.
Sandra was preceded in death by her brother, Alan R. Moore, who died during the Vietnam War, and two sisters, Debra Edwards and Annette Lester.
Sandra will be missed by her many nephews, nieces, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and numerous friends. We all love her very dearly and are grateful for being blessed by her love.
Service will be 8:45 a.m. Saturday at McLoughlin & Mason Funeral Home, corner of 109th and Third Avenue, Lansingburgh, and 9:30 a.m. at Hoosic Valley Community Church, Route 40, Melrose, with the Rev. PINEVILLE - Kathleen Mounts Fleenor, 90, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Heartland of Beckley.
Born Oct. 25, 1911, in Davy, she was the daughter of the late Sink Raymond and Annie Crawford Mounts.
She attended Pineville Presbyterian Church and was employed in a munition factory during World War II.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Smith; and a brother, Raymond Mounts.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice Swimm of Pineville; a brother, Howard Mounts and his wife, Gladys, of Davy; a sister, Margaret Moore of Leonardtown, Md.; two granddaughters, Barbara Cook and her husband, Larry, of Pineville and Rhonda Loving and her husband, Howard, of Pineville; six great-grandchildren, Scott Cook, Lori Thompson, Rebecca Cook, Howard Loving, Norman Loving and Clay Cook; and three great-great-grandchildren, Daryan Thompson, Tyler Cook and Anthony Cook.

BALLARD - Richard E. Huffman, 53, died Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
Born Oct. 21, 1948, in Talcott, he was the son of the late Everette T. and Audry M. Loomis Huffman.
Mr. Huffman was a construction worker and a member of the Laborers Union in Beckley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Jean Huffman; two brothers, John Lee Huffman and Gregory Huffman; and a sister, Carolyn Joyce Huffman Smith.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Joyce Huffman of Talcott and Audra H. Meadows of Williamsburg; two brothers, James Huffman and his wife, Carolyn, and Thomas Huffman and his wife, Joyce, all of Forest Hill; two sisters, Peggy Beasley and her husband, Joe, and Nancy Linsenbigler and her husband, Frank, all of Pittsburgh; several nieces and nephews; and a very close friend, Kenneth Cecil and wife, Judy, of Cashmere.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Thomas Norman Knapp, 52, of the 4900 block of Halwell Drive, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Knapp was a school teacher with Virginia Beach Public Schools, Center for Effective Learning, with 19 years of dedicated service and was loved by students and staff.
He was born in Beckley, and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley and Marshall University in Huntington, where he was captain of the varsity tennis team and a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church.
Mr. Knapp was a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was an avid golfer and former professional tennis player.
He was preceded in death by his father, Norman Knapp; and his mother-in-law, Kathryn Todd Hunton.
Survivors include his wife, Cassie Knapp; two sons, Scott Christopher Knapp and his wife, Brook, of Chesapeake, Va., and Chad Thomas Knapp and his fianceé, Jamie High, of Virginia Beach; his moither, Frances Robertson Knapp of West End, N.C.; a sister, MaryBeth Knapp Cecil of Durham, N.C.; three brothers, Robert F. Knapp of Parkersburg, James F. Knapp of Durham and William D. Knapp, SH2 station in San Diego; his father-in-law, William H. GLEN FORK - Macie M. Pizzino, 85, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, in Valley Health Center, South Charleston, following a long illness.
Born Jan. 15, 1917, in Jesse, she was the daughter of the late Bud C. and Bessie Stewart Daniels.
Mrs. Pizzino was school secretary at Glen Rogers High School for 20 years. She was a member of Glen Rogers Community Church, the Glen Rogers High School Hall of Fame and the Wyoming County Association of Retired School Employees.
She was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star, White Shrine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank C. Pizzino; a son, Jerome Pizzino; a daughter, Mary Francis Pizzino; and a brother, William "Bud" Daniels.
Survivors include a daughter, Becky Sizemore and her husband, Michael, of Charleston; two brothers, Frankie Daniels and Orville Lee Daniels, both of Jesse; four sisters, Fannie Pizzino of South Charleston, Oma Cassell of Kopperston, Demple Epling of Georgia and Pat Dixon of Sabine; a granddaughter, Anita Mitchell and her husband, Scott, of Florence, Ala.; a great-grandson, Seth Alan Mitchell of Florence; and a great-granddaughter, Lori Ann Mitchell of Florence.

CALDWELL - Wilbur Wylie Vance, 76, of Caldwell, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Ronceverte, following a long illness.
Born March 25, 1926, at Glace, he was the son of the late Edward Clarence and Edna Wylie Vance.
Mr. Vance was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Medical Corps, a member of Second Creek Pentecostal Church and a farmer.
He was preceded in death by six brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by a brother, Robert Vance of Lexington, S.C.; and a sister, Elizabeth V. McCutcheon of White Sulphur Springs.

FOUNTAIN INN, S.C. - Arbutis Bowyer Hurd, 91, formerly of Maple Fork, died Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Fountain Inn Nursing Home following a long illness.
Born Jan. 1, 1911, at Maple Fork, she was the daughter of the late Elbert and Eliza Tyree Bowyer.
Mrs. Hurd was a homemaker and a member of Maple Valley Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Edward Hurd; a daughter, Joyce Evelyn Ketron; two brothers, Luther E. Bowyer and Hubert Bowyer; and three sisters, Hazel Bowyer Elkins, Alice Bowyer Crafton and Myrtle Bowyer Agnor.
Survivors include a son, Edward Hurd of North Royalton, Ohio; a daughter, Elizabeth Maynor of Charlotte, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Clarice Hunt Martin, 89, of Piney View, died at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1913, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Hunt and Mary Cheetham Hunt.
Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and retired from the Raleigh County Board of Education as an elementary school teacher with 37 years of service. She last taught at Piney View Elementary and was a member of Piney View Bible Church.
She was a graduate of Concord College with a B.A. degree in education.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Martin; two sisters, Bertha and Bessie; and a brother, Earl.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Grant and husband, Darrell, of Beckley and Polly Maiolo and husband, Arnold, of Piney View; four grandchildren, Arnold Maiolo II, Lisa Suggs, Phillip Maiolo and Leonard Hanks, all of Piney View; a sister, Edith Roberts of Beckley; a brother, Ernest Hunt of Piney View; many nieces and nephews; special cousin, Mary Hunt of Piney View; and three great-grandchildren, Kati Suggs, Samantha Maiolo and David Maiolo.

She was born May 11, 1918, in Olive Hill, Ky.

MOUNT HOPE - Joe Allen McGraw, 72, died Wednesday, June 19, 2002, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following an apparent heart attack.
Born March 14, 1930, at Sugar Creek, Fayette County, he was the son of the late Fred and Pearl Neal McGraw.
Mr. McGraw was a disabled welder and attended the Christian Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Edith Marie Mitchell McGraw; and brothers and sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Maggie McGraw of Milwaukee.
Service will be 8 p.m. today at Tyree Funeral Home Chapel, Mount Hope, with the Rev. Clifford West officiating. Cremation will follow.

TALCOTT - George William Perdue Jr., 89, died at 11:25 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2002, at Princeton Community Hospital following a long illness.
Born Aug. 9, 1912, in Talcott, he was the son of the late George William and Cora Nelson Perdue.
Mr. Perdue was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Talcott, where he served as lay leader and had taught the youth Sunday school class for 55 years.
He was a member of Talcott Masonic Lodge No. 100 AF and AM, Royal Arch Chapter No. 8 and Silver Leaf Chapter No. 5, Order of the Eastern Star, the Hilldale-Talcott Ruritan Club, where he was named Ruritan of the Year in 1985, the AARP and the Summers County Association of Retired School Employees.
Mr. Perdue retired from the Summers County Board of Education in 1972 after 41 years of service. During that time, he was principal at Pence Springs School for 19 years. He was a member and helped organize the Greenbrier Valley Rural Fire Department.
Besides his parents, a daughter, Maxine P. Andrews, and a brother, Robert Perdue, preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Pansy Graham Perdue; a grandson, James William Andrews and wife, Becky, of Charles Town; two granddaughters, Karen Magaha of Stevenson, Va., and Mildred Maddox of College Station, Texas; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Marion Talbott of Talcott.
Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ronald Meadows Funeral Parlors Chapel, Hinton, with Pastors Sam Groves and Tim Halloran officiating. Burial will follow in Talcott Cemetery.

Born July 24, 1966, in Welch, she was the daughter of Millard and Naomi Martin Roach of Pineville.
Mrs. Sizemore was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Adam Millard Roach.
