Looking for any iformation or descendants of HOBBS in Lincoln and Boone Co's 1880-present day. Around 1880, my HOBBS family moved from Russell Co & Buchanan Co. VA to Lincoln Co WV. Not sure how many of the family came. In 1880 their ages would have been; George HObbs (b) 1830,(age 52) wife LYDIA HONAKER (b) 1826,(age 56): children, John (age 28) Eli Hobbs (age 26) , Samuel Hobbs(age 24), Louisa (lulu) HObbs (age 22, married a Ball) Rosina Hobbs (rosie) age 20, married Columbus V.L. Hall (preacher) LIncoln Co WV, and GEORGE HENRY HOBBS (age 17), married Martha Bays, Lincoln Co-1884: George (1830) had a brother SAMUEL (b) 1837, I believe he may have come to WV also. Thomas and Luvenia EDWARDS had a son, John Wesley EDWARDS b. abt. 1856 who md. Elizabeth Carolina JONES, 1853-1937 buried in Edwards Cemetery near Myra, WV. They had a daughter, Nancy Susan EDWARDS 1887-1956 who md. Gilbert MILLER 1887-1968 and lived in Myra, WV. Both Nancy and Gilbert are buried in the EDWARDS Cemetery. Does anyone know exactly where the Murphy Family Cemetery is. My mother and I drove to Lincoln this summer from Louisiana. We know that it is on or near Ten Mile, near the foundation of an old school house. We have been told that it is on private property and that one must ask permission before you can go there. Could you please let me know where it is and who I may contact in order to get permission to enter the cemetery.

BAYS, John b. abt 1828 in Logan Co., (W)VA. Married his cousin, Sarah A. BAYS, dau/o Henry and Mary Ann EADS BAYS of NC, in 1849. Served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Returned to Lincoln Co. after the war and raised his family. He died in 1907 according to his Pension Records. We have been told he once owned oil leases on Sam's Branch and sold them to John PRIDEMORE. Would like to know where John is buried and did he own the oil leases.

Searching for the name of the wife of my G-Uncle Samuel SPERRY, b. Jan 1881, in Boyd CO, KY. He probably moved to Lincoln CO, WV, just after 1900 with his parents, James & Mahala BROWN SPERRY. Samuel married an Unknown LINVILLE and they had no children. Family tradition has it that she was a very beautiful lady with very dark hair and she died at a very young age. Samuel then returned home to live with his parents until they died, James in 1910 and Mahala in 1922. Samuel took care of his mother's funeral arrangements so his wife was deceased before 1922. Samuel died in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV, Oct 27, 1934. Any info on this family greatly appreciated.

Looking for decendants of Samuel Smith. He was born 1810, son of John Smith. He married three times. Last wife was Mahala Adkins. Children known are Sarah, Nancy, Lafayette, Alexander, John, Harvey, and Lucy. Lucy married Clayburn Adkins and Harvey married Elizabeth Adkins, Alexander married Juliantes Hager, Lafayette married Cara Ann Cooper, Sarah married Bartlett Adkins. So far as I can tell, Nancy never married. There is a girl, Tabitha Adkins living with Samuel and Mahala in 1870 and I am told that she had children by an Adkins, a Plumley and a Stowers. Does anyone out there have any information as to who the first wives of Samuel are? Samuel and Mahala settled on Pidgeon on Trace Creek near Hamlin. Samuel is buried on Big Laurel in the Plumley Cemetary. Any help would be appreciated in this matter.

The WV Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans is at this time working on a project to locate and document the grave sites of any Confederate Veterans who are buried in WV. If you have a Confederate relative or know of any Confederate Veterans who are buried in Lincoln Co please send me their name and location of grave site. If possiable we would also like the following information if it is available the company in which the Vet served, his rank, Date of Birth, Date of Death, Wifes name, also any pertanat information about his service with the Confederate States of America.

Mary Etta Messinger b. abt 1844, married James A. Hatfield. They met and married in Logan County, but lived their lives in Ranger, Lincoln County, WV. Mary Etta is supposed to have descended from old Nickolas and Mary Messinger who lived at Falls Creek and was a miller by occupation. Mary Etta may have been the dau of Andrew F and Sarah Messinger who lived in Logan County (Lincoln Now) during late 1800's. Mary Etta had brothers called Frank, Albert, and Wilson Messinger, I think. Others? Any help would be appreciated.
