Volunteer Opportunities
If the thought of adopting and maintaining a website is too much for you there are many other ways to volunteer, here are some ways you can help:
- If you have Kanawha County materials or books consider signing up to be a 'Look-Up' volunteer like those shown above. Researchers send an email to you asking if there is any information for their ancestor, and you reply accordingly.
- If you live in or around Kanawha County, consider offering to take photos in the area or going to a library, government office or historical society to help researchers obtain copies of documents. If there are costs involved in obtaining the items, make sure you contact the person requesting it before hand to arrange payment. The Kanawha County WVGenWeb Project and the USGenWeb Project will not reimburse you, that is between you and the requester.
- Offer to transcribe material for the website, contact the coordinator to see what is needed and what rules may apply. Some examples are - local histories, military and census records, biographies and obituaries, etc.
- Volunteer to transcribe material for one of the USGenWeb Special Projects like the USGenWeb Archives, Census transcriptions, etc.
- Submit obituaries, biographies and other items to the USGenWeb Archives
- Submit gravestone photos to the USGenWeb Tombstone Photo Project
