I.; his regiment was assigned to duty at Parkersburg, Clarksburg and Weston, W. Va., doing guard and garrison duty, scouting and skirmishing in the vicinity of those places. In April, 1863, he was attacked with heart and lung trouble and was treated in hospital at Clarksburg about three months, and furloughed on the 15th of July, 1864, by General Jenkins' rebel cavalry, held on the field a few hours, then paroled and sent to Camp Chase, Ohio, to await exchange; discharged at the expiration of his term of service at Parkersburg, Oct. 13, 1864. James Moore is a native of Lawrence County, Pa., born May 28, 1817; his parents were James and Mary (Johnston) Moore, and are deceased. He has been twice married; his first wife was Elizabeth Lewis, who bore him four children: Margaret E., Annie, Ida J. and Charles H. In Butler county, this State, June 15, 1871, he married Elizabeth Millizen; there were no children by this marriage. Nathaniel and Joshua Lewis, brothers of the first Mrs. Moore, both served in the 6th W. Va. V. I. Mr. Moore's father, James Moore, served in the war of 1812.
