Areta D. Alkire, 87, of Buckhannon and formerly of Elkins, died Thursday, November 3, 2005 at Holbrook Nursing Home.

She was born September 20, 1918 in Replete, the daughter of the late Hugh and Dovie Bickel Aegan.

Surviving are three sons Glen Alkire of French Creek, Robert Alkire of Marlington, and William Alkire of Buckhannon; four grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

She was a Methodist by faith and a homemaker. Private family graveside services were held on Saturday, November 5 at Heavner Cemetery.

Denzle E. Smith, 77, of Buckhannon died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born November 12, 1927 in Adrian, a son of the late Harvey Low Smith and Stacie M. Tenney Smith. He was married on April 13, 1962 to Rena Lane Smith, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2005.

Surviving are a brother, Doyle and wife Karen Smith of Rootstown, Ohio; two sisters, Sada Gould of Buckhannon and Vada and husband Tom Ralston of Rootstown, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by two brothers, German Smith and Darris Smith, and a sister, Velma Godrey.

Mr. Smith was a farmer and a lifetime member of the Upshur County Farm Bureau and the French Creek Chapter No. 36 DAV.

Friends will be received today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Nancy Killingsworth presiding. Burial will follow at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hinkleville.

Joann Marteney, 72, of Buckhannon died Friday, November 4, 2005, at her home under the care of the People's Hospice of Clarksburg. She was born March 17, 1933, in Century, a daughter of the late Harland Wagner and Lillie Booth Wagner. She was united in marriage March 29, 1948, to the late George Marteney, who preceded her in death on Nov. 15, 2003. One sister Phyllis Eckles also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons: Jerry and Mary Marteney and Lynn and Cheryl Marteney, all of Buckhannon; two daughters: Georganna and Bob Starkey of Jane Lew and Nena Harrison of Buckhannon; two grandsons: Scott Starkey of Jane Lew and Jerrod Marteney of Fairmont; six granddaughters: Kim Linger of Jane Lew, Shannon McDaniels of Buckhannon, Barbie Gordon of Belington, Erin Renzelli of Clarksburg, DeLeana Harrison of Buckhannon and Nicole Radabaugh of Buckhannon; and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Marteney was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

Friends were received Sunday, Nov. 6 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. today, Nov. 7 at the funeral home with the Rev. John Ingram officiating. The burial will follow at the Marteney Cemetery in Swamp Run, W.Va. The Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Portia Lee Adams, 81, of the Hinkleville community died Saturday, November 5, 2005, at her home under the care of People's Hospice of Clarksburg. She was born Nov. 26, 1923, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Bessie Irwin. She was united in marriage on Sept. 8, 1942, to the late Clarence J. Adams Jr., who preceded her in death on June 18, 1972.

Surviving are three sons: Larry J. Adams and Bobbie of Matthews, N.C., Jeff W. Adams and Cheryl of Buckhannon and Stephen F. Adams and Shelia also of Buckhannon; two daughters: Barbara and Fred Cleveland of Carriere, Miss., and Pamela Damron of Huntington, W.Va.; six granddaughters: Missy Wright and Christa Sawyer both of Matthews, Angela Damron and Laura Adams both of Huntington, Stephanie Adams and Emily Adams both of Buckhannon; five grandsons: Michael Cleveland of Birmingham, A.L., Marc Cleveland of Hattisburgh, Miss., Keith Damron of Huntington, Scott Adams and Matthew Adams both of Buckhannon; step grandson Josh Reed of Columbus, Ohio; eight great-grandchildren, and sister Evelyn Chetlat of Baltimore, Md.

Mrs. Adams was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, Nov. 8 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Butcher officiating. The burial will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Hinkleville, W.Va. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to People's Hospice of Clarksburg or Sand Run Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Adams.

Lovie Dell Starcher, 88, of Wishing Well Manor in Fairmont, died Monday, November 7, 2005 at the Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born April 16, 1917 in Naiper, W.Va., the daughter of the late John Stanton Allen and Ellen Murphy Allen. On June 25, 1940 she married Roscoe Max Starcher, who preceded her in death.

Surviving are a son, Randy Max Starcher of Bridgeport, daughter Oletha Nicholson of Las Vegas, Nev., sister Mildred Brown of Baltimore, Md., four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers Ralph Allen, Harry Allen, Cecil Allen, and Russell Allen and sister Amy LeFever.

Mrs. Starcher was a homemaker and attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Friends will be received Friday, Nov. 11 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. The service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Michael Tallman officiating. Burial will follow in the McVaney Cemetery in Hackers Creek. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, 501 St. Jude's Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Oren L. Zirkle, 91, of Peora died at 7:18 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2005, at the Heartland of Clarksburg Nursing Home following an extended illness. He was born May 27, 1914 in Alexander, Upshur County, a son of the late Ray O. and Mollie Teets Zirkle. On Nov. 5, 1938, Mr. Zirkle married Maxine Scott Zirkle, who passed away on Oct. 3, 1990.

He is survived by one daughter Betty and David Carpenter of Clarksburg; one grandson Leslie D. Carpenter of Clarksburg; one sister Dorothy Edgell also of Clarksburg; brother-in-law Rex Walton of Bridgeport; four sisters-in-law: Margaret Zirkle and Minnette Scott both of Fairmont; Betty Zirkle and Clara Paugh both of Shinnston; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Zirkle was also preceded in death by five brothers: Hollis, Denver, Clifford, Emerson and Donald Lee Zirkle, and one sister Wilma Thomas.

Mr. Zirkle retired form the Consolidation Coal Company, Four States Mine in 1975. He was a member of the UMWA Local 9909 and 4060, and the CCC's in Richwood and Nutter Fort; as well as, a member of the Shinnston Senior Citizens and the Shinnston Nutrition Center. He was an avid bowler and loved hunting, fishing and taking trips with the travel club.

Friends were received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and will be received today from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. today, Nov. 9, 2005, at the funeral home with the Rev. Toni Beecher officiating.

The burial will follow at the Shinnston Masonic Cemetery.

John Roger Johnson, 52, of Summersville died Friday, November 4, 2005, in a motorcycle accident on Rt. 119 near Marlinton. He was the son of Lula Marie Hammonds Johnson-Brouse of Summersville and the late Merlin Hayes Johnson. He was born at Upper Glade on July 15, 1953. Mr. Johnson was a former coal miner electrician, a HOG member, local motorcycle activist and owner of the Pioneer Inn at Glade Creek with his wife.

Surviving besides his mother: wife Brenda Lane Johnson, son John Pat Johnson and daughter Jamie Ann Johnson both of Canvas; step son J.R. Chidester of Summersville; four brothers: Bill, Dave, Kevin and Randall Johnson all of Summersville; three sisters: Shirley Grose, Jeanie Johnson and Anne Johnson all of Summersville.

Friends were received Monday, Nov. 7 at the Waters Funeral Chapel in Summersville. The funeral service was conducted 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at the Nazarene Tabernacle located at the Nazarene Camp in Summersville with the Rev. Ed Baker officiating. The burial followed in the Johnson City Cemetery at Glade Creek. In lieu of flowers please send donations to Pioneer Inn Christmas Fund, 910 Lower Glade Creek Rd., Summersville, WV 26651. William Earl Hoover was born on September 1, 1905 at Crawford in Lewis County and departed this life on October 4, 2005 at Cincinnati, Ohio where he had lived for the past 80 years.

He was the son of the late George William Hoover and Amanda Hopkins McClain Hoover. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve Housley Hoover, and brothers: George Erve Hoover of Crawford and Rick Erry Hoover of San Diego, Calif.

Surviving are three nephews: Richard G. Hoover of Buckhannon, Robert D. Hoover of New Milton and George Hoover of California; one niece Ellen Hoover Sofino of California; several great-nieces and nephews also survive him as well.

Georgena Madge Hosaflook, 77, of Buckhannon died Thursday, November 10, 2005 10, 2005, at her home. She was born Nov. 10, 1928, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Theodore Oliver Carpenter and Maud Alderman Carpenter. She was united in marriage on Dec. 13, 1953, to the late Eugene Brooks Hosaflook, who preceded her in death on June 8, 1995.

Surviving are son Theodore Eugene Hosaflook of Pennsylvania; granddaughter Brandi Ann Hosaflook of Fairmont; four sisters: Bettie Rose of Buckhannon, Bonnie Hinkle of French Creek, Mary Janssen of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Janice Fitzgerald of Buckhannon; two brothers: Robert and wife Diann Carpenter of Buckhannon and Roger and wife Cindy Carpenter of French Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hosaflook was a homemaker.

Donald K. Brown Sr., 70, of Shinnston passed away at his residence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2005, following a brief illness. He was born in Buckhannon on October 10, 1935, a son of the late Carl B. Brown and Eddie Grace Neff Brown. Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Meta Scott Brown on March 4, 2003.

Surviving are, his second wife Wilma Northrop Brown, who he married June 5, 2004; three sons and two daughters-in-law: Carl D. and Shelia Brown of Mannington, Donald K. "Butch" Brown Jr. of Shinnston and Thomas E. and Kay Brown of Buckhannon; two daughters and sons-in-law: Roberta and Steve Long of Buckhannon and Katherine and Joel Miltenberger of Bridgeport; a special grandson that was like a son Michael Brown of Carolina, W.Va.; three step-children: Cindy S. Norman and Barry Norman both of Akron, Ohio and Mrs. Greg (Jan) Phillips of Mt. Clare; three sisters and two brother-in-laws: Mrs. Janet Sue Crites and Mrs. Denzil "Bertie" Carouso of Buckhannon and Mrs. Greg (Nancy) Schumacher of Elkins; 13 grandchildren that he dearly loved, one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brown was also preceded in death by one granddaughter Sydeny Miltenberger.

Mr. Brown was a graduate of B-U High School Class of 1953. He was a member of the Freedom Southern Baptist Church in Nutter Fort. He was a master mason with membership in the Buckhannon - Franklin Lodge No. 7, AF & AM and was a 32-degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in the Clarksburg and Wheeling bodies. He loved trout fishing and stock car racing.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Transportation, Division of Highways.

Friends may call today, Nov. 14, 2005 at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home, 329 East Main Street, Clarksburg from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. at the Freedom Southern Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 with the Rev. Jim Sanders presiding.

The burial will be in the Heavner Cemetery in Buckhannon. The Buckhannon - Franklin Lodge No. 7 AF and AM will meet at the cemetery by 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday to accord Mr. Brown Masonic graveside rites.

Leva Elizabeth Gum Brown, of Orgas, W.Va., and formerly of Buckhannon and Mill Creek, W.Va., passed away Nov. 11, 2005, at her home after a long illness.

She was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Grover and Dona Hammons Gum.

She was a member of the Keith Full Gospel Church in Keith, W.Va.

Her husband, Paul; a son, Cecil; a brother, Charlie Gum and a sister Luella Watson, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two daughters: Evelyn Robinson and husband Otis, of Brook Park, Ohio; and Sharlon Ferrell and husband Jack, of Keith; as well as a son, William Brown and wife Jan, of Etna, N.Y.

Four sisters: Helen Wagman, of Linville, Va.; Waneda Newlon, of Texas; Irene Ferrell, of Mill Creek, W.Va.; and Ice Bradley, of Gastonia, N.C. also survive her.

Four brothers: Henry Gum, of Mill Creek, W.Va.; Don of Belington; Howard, of Huttonsville; and Harvey of Dailey also survive her as do 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received today, Monday, Nov. 14, 2005, at the Memorial Mission Church in Mill Creek from 1 to 2 p.m. and at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Whitesville, W.Va. from 6 to 9 p.m.

A short funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. Pastor June Ferrell will be officiating.

An additional service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005, at the Memorial Mission Church with Rev. Long officiating.

Interment will take place at the Mill Creek Cemetery in Mill Creek.

Ruth R. Criss, 87, of Buckhannon died Friday, November 11, 2005 at the Mansfield Place in Barbour County. She was born Oct. 15, 1918 in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Harvey and Samantha Hyre Long. Her husband, Sherman L. Criss, preceded her in death. She is survived by three daughters: Jennalee Keiper of Pennsylvania, Barbara Cooper of Florida and Monna Atkins of Virginia; four sons: Denver Criss of Ohio, Loel Criss and Sherman Criss Jr., both of Tennessee and Sam Criss of Buckhannon; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers: French Long of French Creek and Fred Long of Buckhannon; two sisters: Xenna Carpenter and Betty Donaldson both of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Pearl Helmick, Vera Smallridge, Blanche Fleming and three brothers: Harry, Glen and Cecil Long.

Mrs. Criss was a Methodist by faith and a member of the Macedonia United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received today, Nov. 14, 2005 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2005 at the funeral chapel.

The burial will follow in the Macedonia Cemetery. The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Eileen J. Hinkle, 68, of West Palm Beach, Fla. died Sunday, November 13, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Buckhannon. She was born June 3, 1937, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Clifton Gibson and Virginia Parker Gibson. She was united in marriage on Nov. 26, 1955, to Delmar Hinkle, who survives.

Also surviving are son Douglas Hinkle of Australia; two granddaughters: Stephanie Hinkle of Lake Worth, Fla. and Shy-Ann Hinkle of Australia; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hinkle was a homemaker.

Memorial services will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the charity of your choice in memory of Mrs. Hinkle.

Vernon "Jack" Powers, 52, of Yorktown, Va., died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at his home. He was born June 25, 1953 in Vermillon, Ohio, the son of the late Forest Virgil and June Kathryn (Bennett) Powers.

Surviving are a daughter, Beverly "BJ" Powers of Buckhannon; two grandchildren Hennasea Kittle and Harley Kittle of Buckhannon; three brothers Sammy L. Sampson of Vinton, Va., David R. Sampson of Daytona, Fla. and Stephen J. Powers of Buckhannon; and three sisters Kathryn Sue Heater of Buckhannon, Nancy J. McCartney of Walkersville and Kimberly D. Lincicome of Buckhannon.

He is also survived by the love of his life, Debbie Chetham and her son Matthew.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Larry W. Powers and a nephew Scott Benson.

Mr. Powers was a dispatcher for Johns Brothers in Norfolk, Va. and was an avid racecar fan and had worked in the pit crew for Staton Racing Company.

A viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 18 at the Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News, Va. A second viewing will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, November 19 at the Tomblyn-Whitescarver Funeral Chapel.

The funeral will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, November 20 at the funeral chapel with Rev. Mike Westfall officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Ridge Cemetery.

Charles William Tenney, 84, of Trubie Run Road, Buckhannon, died Saturday, November 19, 2005 at his home in Buckhannon, under the care of Peoples Hospice of Clarksburg. He was born October 9, 1921 in Tribue Run, a son of the late Floyd J. Tenney and Fannie Shockey Tenney. He married Rosemary Scott Tenney on April 4, 1964, who survives.

Also surviving are five sons: Lennie and wife Carol Tenney of Buckhannon, David and wife Christinia Tenney and their three children of Norton, John and wife Florence Tenney of Buckhannon, Randy and wife Dodie Tenney of Buckhannon, and Chris Tenney and fiancé Lisa McCormick of Buckhannon; two daughters: Diana and husband Jim Gregory of Buckhannon, and Mary and husband Randy Hawkins of Buckhannon; two grandsons: Bryan O'Neil and wife Lisa Tenney of Maryland, and Bradley Warren Tenney of Fairmont; eight granddaughters: Claudia Tenney of Charleston, Stephanie Hawkins, Samantha Hawkins, Carly Gregory, Amanda Tenney, Morgan Tenney, Cassie Tenney and Emily Tenney, all of Buckhanon; a step-granddaughter: Brittany Gregory of Buckhannon; a great-granddaughter: Lauren Tenney of Maryland; six great-grandsons: Michael Tenney, Dylan Tenney and Tyler Davis, all of Maryland, and Brandon Tenney, Aaron Tenney and Stephan Tenney, all of Elkins; a sister-in-law: Tressie Ware of Buckhannon; a niece: Stella Morris of Buckhannon; and a nephew: Larel Ware of Ohio.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vera Lamb Tenney; two brothers, Cecil Ware and James Ware; and a sister, Dana Ware.

Friends will be received today from 6 to 9 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville.

Mary L. Ubowski, 88, of Buckhannon died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Holbrook Nursing Home. She was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Niagara Falls, New York, a daughter of the late Frank and Grace Parone Castiglione. She was married to the late Chester Ubowski. Eleanor Benedict, a sister, also preceded her in death. Surviving is a sister Sarah J. Davis of Buckhannon; three nephews: Gary M. Davis, Glenn M. Davis and Bryon W. Benedick; and niece Diane L. Davis.

Mrs. Ubowski was a retired clerk for International Paper Company of Niagara Falls. She was a Catholic by faith.

A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, with Celebrant Father James McCafferty officiating. The burial followed in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Niagara Falls, New York.

Terry Lynn Hull, 58, of Walkersville died on Thursday, November 17, 2005, at the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was born May 7, 1947, in Weston, a son of the late William R. and Agnes F. Curry Hull.

Surviving are two daughters: Tracie Lynn Hull and Tara Lynn Hull both of Morgantown; three brothers: William F. Hull, Joseph S. Hull and M. Boone Hull all of Walkersville; one sister Debra S. Hornick of Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hull was a truck driver for J.F. Allen Company and attended church at the Ireland United Methodist Church.

Friends were received on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Alkire Funeral Chapel. The funeral service was held 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005 at the funeral chapel with the Rev. Earl Cayton officiating. The burial followed at the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Alkire Funeral Chapel of Ireland was in charge of the arrangements.

Vincent Winfield Miller, 67, of Buckhannon departed this life at 12:55 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2005, at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 6, 1938 at Tanner, W.Va., a son of Neva Wilson Fallon and the late Jack Miller. Mr. Miller was retired from Schlumberger where he worked in oil and gas. He was also a Christian by faith.

Surviving are four daughters and one son: Tina Jones and Deanna Hilton of Glenville, Carrie Wexler of Calif., Derrick Johnson and Darcy Baird of Arizona; two sisters and one brother: Jackie Frymier of Maryland, Kitty Dorman of Washington and Jeff Miller of Virginia; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral service was conducted Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. in Glenville with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. The burial followed in the Miller Family Cemetery in Letter Gap, W.Va.

Truman Durbin Bennett, 73, of Buckhannon died Sunday, November 20, 2005 at 5:30 a.m. at Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center. He was born February 18, 1932 in Buckhannon, the son of the late Archie Baxter Bennett and Edna Dell Moats Bennett. He was married to the late Ruth Virginia Beam Bennett who preceded him in death on July 9, 2000.

He is survived by daughter Barbara A. (Bennett) Bennett of Buckhannon; three grandsons Bradley Bennett, Anthony Lemons and Martin Lemons, all of Buckhannon; five sisters Mary Maxine Bennett of Buckhannon, Edna Elaine White of Syracuse, N.Y., Wanda Elnora Baughman of Syracuse, N.Y., Samantha Louise Bennett of Buckhannon, and two brothers Harold Junior Bennett of Warren, Ohio and Charles Clinton Bennett of French Creek.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister Emogene Fern Bennett and three brothers Woodford George Bennett, Edward Steve Bennett, and Issac Martin Bennett.

Delmas Charles "Shorty" Ware, 64, of Parkwood Dr., Buckhannon, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2005, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1941, in Hacker Valley, a son of Nelson Ware and the late Lovie Barbe Ware.

He was united in marriage on December 22, 1961, to Dorthea Jean Lane Ware, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by one son, Thomas "T.J." Ware, of Reedsville, W.Va., and one daughter, Tammy Brown, of Hacker Valley.

One granddaughter, Asasha Brown, of Hacker Valley, also survives him. A sister, Lela Pugh, of French Creek, survives him as well.

Mr. Ware was the owner and operator of Ware Lumber and Fence Company.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Kathleen Virginia Harsh, 84, of Buckhannon passed away at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2005, in the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg. She was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Thomas, W.Va., a daughter of the late George Raymond and Nora Belle (Lear) Dawson. She was united in marriage on Nov. 10, 1940, to Elmer Morris (Smokey) Harsh, who survives.

Also surviving are daughter Mary Elizabeth and husband Tom Stark of Parkersburg; four sons: Harold L. Harsh of Buckhannon, David L. and wife Kimberly Harsh of Glade Springs, Ronald L. and wife Sharon Harsh of Charleston, and Timmy and wife Paula Worden of Davis; one daughter-in-law Joyce Ann and husband Dan Brown of Buckhannon; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Harsh was the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters, one son Robert Eugene Harsh, one grandson Gregory Allen Harsh and one great-grandson Curtis Matthew Harsh.

Mrs. Harsh was a dining room hostess/supervisor at the Twin Fall State Park in Mullens, W.Va., a homemaker and a United Methodist by faith.

John W. Kyle Jr., 77, of French Creek died Monday, November 21, 2005 at his home. He was born October 10, 1928, in Elkins, a son of the late John W. Kyle Sr. and Emma Lena Griffith Kyle Sr. He married Virginia C. Zickefoose Kyle, who survives, on October 21, 1949.

Also surviving are three sons: John W. and wife Cathy L. Kyle, III of Nutter Fort, Jerry L. Kyle of Buckhannon and Robert P. Kyle of French Creek; a daughter: Patricia Ann Kyle of Parma, Ohio; two granddaughters: Samantha Russell and Jessica Russell, both of Parma, Ohio; a brother: Jacob Mack Kyle of Elkins; and three sisters: Iris Newman of Cleveland, Ohio, Bernice Phillips of Buckhannon, and Betty Krajewski of Beverly Hills, Fla.

Mr. Kyle was a crew leader at General Motors.

Vincent Winfield Miller, 67, of Buckhannon departed this life at 12:55 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2005, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown following injuries sustained as the result of an accidental fall. He was born Feb. 6, 1938 at Tanner, W.Va., a son of Neva Wilson Fallon and the late Jack Miller. Mr. Miller was retired from Schlumberger where he worked in oil and gas.

He was also a Christian by faith.

Surviving are four daughters and one son: Tina Jones and Deanna Hilton of Glenville, Carrie Wexler of Calif., Derrick Johnson and Darcy Baird of Arizona; two sisters and one brother: Jackie Frymier of Maryland, Kitty Dorman of Washington and Jeff Miller of Virginia; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral service was conducted Sunday, Nov. 20, 2005, at the Ellyson Mortuary Inc. in Glenville with Pastor Jerry Murrell officiating. The burial followed in the Miller Family Cemetery in Letter Gap, W.Va.

Hubert Eugene Thorne, 76, of Buckhannon died Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. He was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Louise, W.Va., a son of the late Hubert and Goldie Floyd Thorne.

Surviving are wife Teresa Grega Thorne of Buckhannon; three children: Patricia and husband Terry Howell of Salem, Terry and husband Robert Summers of Midlothian, Va. and James Michael and wife Cheryl Thorne of Covington, La.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister Donna McClain of Clarksburg. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Thorne was a retired mine foreman for Pittston Coal Company and member of the Church of God of Buckhannon. He was an avid motorcyclist and a member of the Christian Motorcycle Association.

Mary Goldsmith, 51, of Buckhannon died Thursday, November 24, 2005 at her home under the care of People's Hospice of Clarksburg. She was born Oct. 23, 1954, in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Dana M. Curtis and Wanda L. Perrine Curtis of Buckhannon, who survives.

Also surviving are partner Rocky R. Wamsley of Buckhannon; three daughters: Michelle and husband Leland Pickens of Ireland, Sandra and husband David Walton of Buckhannon and Rachel and husband Leon Rowan of Buckhannon; six grandsons: Leland Pickens, Bradley Pickens, Timothy Schulte, Joshua Schulte, Zachery young, and Tyson Bliegh; three granddaughters: Kayla Pickens, Miesha Fallo, and Cheyanna Rowan; one unborn grandchild; two brothers: Randy and Charles Garrison; three sisters: Terry Sandt, Mildred Swiger, and Sue Burkhammer; great uncle Charles Harris; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, one brother Burnard Ocheltree and one nephew Michael Gibson preceded her in death.

Walter W. Clark Sr., 92, of Hephzibah passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2005, following a brief illness. He was born on March 13, 1913 in Hephzibah, a son of the late Soloman Levy Clark and Mary Elizabeth Pence Clark. Mr. Clark was preceded in death by his wife Vergie Mabel Clark on Feb. 12, 2005, whom he married on May 9, 1936.

He is survived by two sons: Keith M. Clark and wife Verna L. Clark of Mansfield, Ohio and Walter W. "Walt" Clark Jr. and wife Ruthan of Hephzibah; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one sister Ruth Clark Swiger and husband Lonnie of Chantilly, Va.; daughter-in-law Waltraud Clark of S.C. formerly of Hephzibah; son-in-law William (Bill) Wilfong of Quite Dell.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Harold and Carl Clark; two sisters: Vonda Heatherly Grapes and Juanita Clark; two infant sisters: Flossie Lee and Betty Elizabeth Clark; daughter Nora Jean Wilfong; two sons: Ronald Lee and Stephen Dexter Clark and one daughter-in-law Debbie Clark.

Mr. Clark was a coalminer having retired from Marine Coal Company of Spelter. He was a member of the Hephzibah Baptist Church and a member of the UMWA Association. He also enjoyed playing the harmonica.

Laura Jean Miller, 78, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, November 26, 2005 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. She was born June 28, 1927 in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Edward Harrison McQuain and Minnie Ellen Rollins McQuain. On November 1, 1947, she married Harold Morgan Miller, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1993.

Surviving are a daughter, Melinda Jo (Miller) Arnold and husband Kelly of Rock Cave; a granddaughter, Marlana Jean Arnold and Joshua Lee Ringer of Buckhannon; a grandson, Kevin Wayne Arnold of Rock Cave; a great-granddaughter, Cadence Renee Ringer of Buckhannon; a great-grandson, Nathaniel Morgan Ringer of Buckhannon; two brothers, Homer Edward McQuain and Billy James McQuain, both of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Maxine Wycoff and Frances Irene Warner.

Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and attended Rock Cave Baptist Church.

Xenna Maye Carpenter, 94, of Buckhannon, Tennerton community, died Sunday, November 27, 2005, at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon.

She was born January 19, 1911, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Harvey and Cemantha Hyre Long.

She was united in marriage on May 21, 1940, in Monterey, Va. to Delbert Carpenter, who preceded her in death on Feb. 8, 1986.

She is survived by two brothers: French Long and wife Lois of French Creek and Fred Long of Buckhannon; one sister Betty Donaldson of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by four sisters: Pearl Helmick, Vera Smallridge, Blanche Fleming and Ruth Criss and three brothers: Harry, Cecil, and Glen Long.

Mrs. Carpenter taught elementary school in Upshur County for 43 years before retiring in June 1973. She was a member of the Frenchton United Methodist Church.

Jenneve Mae Hamilton, 90, of Buckhannon died Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born on April 16, 1915, in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Nathan Goff Hinkle and Carmie Phillips Hinkle. She was united in marriage on Feb. 15, 1936, to the late Jesse J. Hamilton, who preceded her in death on Oct. 16, 1993.

Three brothers survive her: Paul Eugene Hinkle of Buckhannon, Gerald Hinkle of Buckhannon, and Ellis Burl Hinkle of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Hamilton was a homemaker and attended Hampton United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received on Thursday, December 1, 2005, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

Sandra Jo Tenney, 66, of Tallmansville died Monday, November 28, 2005, at her home under the care of Mt. Hospice. She was born June 9, 1939, in Frenchton, a daughter of the late Otis and Daisy Underwood Kelley.

She was united in marriage on Jan. 31, 1959, to Kenneth Tenney, who survives. In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children: Carla Orsburn and husband Kenneth of Tallmansville, Beverly Irwin and husband Greg of Valley Bend, Kenneth Tenney Jr. and wife Melissa of Tallmansville, and Jeanette White and husband Clifford of Tallmansville; nine grandchildren: Benjamin Orsburn, Matthew Orsburn, Andrew Orsburn, Sarah Orsburn, William Irwin, Victoria Irwin, Mikayah Irwin, James Tenney, and Ashlea White; four brothers: Otis "Bud" Kelley of Tucson, Ariz., Gerald Tenney of Helvetia, Joe Kelley of Duncan, Ariz. and Gary "Lew" Kelley of French Creek; and three sisters: Ada Wilson of Frenchton, Dee LaVrar of Toledo, Ohio and Connie Simmons of Frenchton.

An infant brother Joy Dale Wilson preceded her in death.

Mrs. Tenney was a personal care giver and a Methodist by faith.

Ruby A. Hardman-DeBarr of Walland, Tenn. died on November 26, 2005.

She was a member of Friendly Hill Baptist Church. She retired from Bridgestone/Firestone Tire Company after 35 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne R. DeBarr; parents William and Violet Bradley; brother Donnie Bradley; and son-in-law Eddie Buchanan.

She is survived by daughters: Pam Buchanan of Seymour, Sandra Carpenter of Las Vegas, and Gloria Jean and Bill Priest of Three Oaks, Mich.; son Ronnie and Diane DeBarr of North Canton, Ohio; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of friends and relatives.

The family received friends at the funeral home on Tuesday.

Forrest Pete Darrel Summers, 84, departed this life peacefully at his residence on Spruce Fork in Buckhannon on November 27, 2005 at 9:25 a.m. after a long illness.

He was born Feb. 24, 1921 to the late Creed Robert Summers and Dona Mae (Duncan) Summers of Stonecoal near Horner in Lewis County and is survived by his wife of 63 years Thelma F. (Rippetoe) Summers, four children: Drema Lanham and husband Robert of Pennsboro, Darrel Summers and wife Wanda of Horner, Joyce Heckert and husband Robert of Charleston and Lois Yousefi and husband Abbas of Middletown, Del.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Summers began his career in 1941, as a welder with Barium Reduction in South Charleston, W.Va. In 1942, he was called to serve his country in World War II as a member of the 11th Army Air Corp in the United States Army in the North Pacific as a corporal. While serving in the Aleutian Islands during the battle of Kiska, he was awarded the Bronze Battle Star and the Good Conduct Medal and was also awarded three overseas bars and one serving stripe.

He was honorably discharged on October 27, 1945, from Tinker Field Air Force Base in Oklahoma.

After his discharge, Mr. Summers resumed his career as a welder with Barium Reduction for many years until the company was purchased by PPG Industries. In 1965, he was transferred to Natrium, W.Va. north of New Martinsville, W.Va. where he continued to work until his retirement in April of 1983. Mr. Summers enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, riding his four-wheeler, and also enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren coming to visit. He was a wonderful husband, father, and friend to everyone. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need.

Mr. Summers was a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2005 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair. The funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Smailes of Vandilla Methodist Church was preached the funeral.

Malinda Jane "Linda" Stump, 79, of Buckhannon passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born July 14, 1926, in Webster County, a daughter of the late Patrick Duffy Hamrick and Mary Martha Sycafoose Hamrick. She was united in marriage on Aug. 4, 1946, to James Stump, who survives. Also surviving are son Michael and Celesta Stump of Buckhannon; three daughters: Rose and Mike Whitehair, Brenda and Terry Cutright, and Teresa and David Maxwell all of Buckhannon; five grandsons: Terry Junior "Joe" Cutright, Jeff Whitehair, Shane Whitehair, Todd Whitehair, and David "DJ" Maxwell Jr. all of Buckhannon; five granddaughters: Michele Kemp of Woodbridge, Va., Angel Phillips of Knoxville, Tenn., Amy Hatfield of Buckhannon, Heather Small of Buckhannon and Sydney Maxwell of Buckhannon; 15 great-grandchildren and sister Lena Hamrick.

She was preceded in death by one grandson John Michael Whitehair Jr., three brothers: Sylvester, Herbert and John Adison Hamrick; and two sisters: Madeline Dauphinee and Shella Bright.

Mrs. Stump was a homemaker and was employed at Ralph's Furniture for 24 years. She attended Calvary Baptist and Liberty Baptist Churches and was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Chapter No. 18 Order Eastern Star.

She was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a dear friend. We will miss her and we love her very much.

Joanna L. Vawter,78 of Mulberry Avenue, Moundsville, W.Va. died Tuesday, November 29, 2005 in Ohio Valley Medical Center, Wheeling, W.Va.

She was born October 20, 1927 in Upshur County, W.Va., the daughter of the late Ralph E. and Hazel Fox Smith.

She was a member of Cornerstone Church of God in Mounds-ville.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by two sons, Brian and Bernie Vawter, a brother, Wayne Frisby and a brother-in-law, George Harris.

Survivors include her husband, Dellis Vawter, six cousins, David (Shelly) Conner, Roy Conner, Jesse Conner, Rebecca (Jim) Davis, Lori Conner and Michelle Conner all of Moundsville, a brother, Richard Fox of Martinsburg, W.Va., four nieces, Sara, Dawna, Carla and Barbara, five sisters-in-law, Helen Tenney Fox, Iona Harris, Jenny Arnez, Sheila and Donna Sue Harris, 35 grandchildren and very special friend, Loretta Conner.

Mildred H. Fowler, 98, of Smyrna, Del. died Friday, December 2, 2005 at Deleware Hospital for Chronically Ill in Smyrna. She was born August 14, 1907 in Rock Cave, the daughter of the late William Weese Harper and Georgia Ruth Kincaid Harper. She was married to Robert Dane Fowler who preceded her in death.

Surviving are a daughter Mary V. Fowler of Dover, Del. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Walters, Ruth Darr, and Clotille Chidester and a brother William Harper.

Mrs. Fowler had been a deputy county clerk for Upshur County and a member of First United Methodist Church.

Eva Celestine Quick, 86, of Elkins died Friday, Dec. 2, 2005, at Nella's Nursing Home in Crystal Springs. She was born March 21, 1919, in Randolph County, a daughter of the late James P. Burke and Sarah T. Nay Burke. She was united in marriage on April 13, 1941 to the late Merritt E. Quick, who preceded her in death on Aug. 8, 2000. One son Bernard Quick and daughter Patricia C. Quick preceded her in death.

Surviving is one daughter Janet L. Klepper of Missouri; three sons: Edward E. Quick of Cleveland, England, James. W. "Willy" and wife Chris Quick of Buckhannon and John L. and wife Sharon Quick of Buckhannon; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Quick was a homemaker, for many years was a school cook at Sand Run and Excelsior Elementary schools, and charter member of Nay Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mary Jane Light Roth, 80, of Buckhannon died Thursday, December 1, 2005, at the Holbrook's Nursing Home. She was born March 13, 1925, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Hobert Earl Rowan and Hettie Pearl Gooden Rowan. She was also preceded in death by first husband Albert Francis Light, who died Oct. 30, 1973 and second husband Clifford Roth, who died May 6, 1992; three brothers: Harold Rowan, Clarden Ray Rowan and Bob Rowan; and two sisters: Virginia Rutledge and Louise Rowan.

Surviving are daughter Rose and husband Dale Knight of Buckhannon; son Francis and wife Wanda Light of Buckhannon; four granddaughters: Peggy Shahan of Belington, Patty Jordon of Hinkleville, Kathy Hardman of Ninty Six, SC, and Melissa Kelley of Tallmansville; two step-granddaughters: Amanda West of Hodgesville and Tina Daugherty of Philippi; 7 great-grandchildren; brother Harry Eugene Rowan of Mabie; and three sisters: Marjorie Hurst of Indiana, Mildred Duke of Ohio and Wilma Tackett of Ohio.

Mrs. Roth was a homemaker and attended church at the Fairview United Methodist Church.

Chris William Bender, 34, of Rock Cave, died Saturday, December 3, 2005. He was born November 15, 1971, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of Terry Bender of Rock Cave and Betty Ponsford Bender of Cleveland, Ohio.

He is also survived by his stepmother Diane Bender of Rock Cave. He was united in marriage on July 3, 1993 to Jennifer Boatwright Bender who survives. He is survived by one daughter Ceara Bender and one son C.J. Bender both at home. He is also survived by three brothers, Tony Bender and wife Drema, of Walkersville, Craig Bender and wife Trudy and Phillip Bender and wife Tammy, both of French Creek; one sister, Laura Chidester and husband Sonny of Rock Cave, along with and several nieces and nephews.

Two stepsisters, Jeana Carpenter, of Rock Cave, and Joanie Hutchins, of French Creek also survive him.

Chris was employed by Alcon in Buckhannon. He enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Chris loved trucks and cars.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, December 8, 2005 from noon to 1 p.m., the funeral hour with Pastor David Jessie officiating.

Interment will follow in the Goshen Cemetery. At the request of the family the casket will remain closed.

Norma Lee Lambert, 82, of Buckhannon died Friday, December 2, 2005, at the home of her caretaker Loretta Ables. She was born June 21, 1923, in Grafton, W.Va., a daughter of the late Guy Lambert and Ethel Kinter Lambert.

Twin sister Dorothy D. Lambert Morrison also preceded her in death.

Surviving are friend Loretta Ables of Buckhannon; four sons: Larry and Clara Yoders, Davie and Edna Yoders, and Stevey and Rita Yoders all of Clarksburg and Jimmie Yoders and wife Margaret Norman of Buckhannon; daughter Judy Rhodes of Buckhannon; four grandsons: Stephen Yoders Jr., Adam Yoders, Larry Yoders and Michael Yoders all of Clarksburg; three granddaughters: Maryann Mayer, Jennifer Yoders-Greaver, and Connie Yoders all of Clarksburg; three step-grandchildren: Joseph Richards, Tracie Marie Garrison and Samantha Lynn Garrison all of Buckhannon; great-granddaughter Skylar Yoders of Clarksburg; four great-grandsons: Billy, Matthew and Hunter Mayer and Terijen Greaver all of Clarksburg.

Mrs. Lambert was a homemaker and member of the Catholic Church East Pike St. in Clarksburg.

Charles Edward Hyre, 71, a resident of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., departed this life early Saturday morning, December 3, 2005, at the Imperial Point Medical Center in Florida. He was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Frenchton, a son of the late Herbert P. Hyre and Agnes McClain Hyre of Buckhannon.

Surviving are a sister Ethel Hyre Johnston of Rock Cave; brother Herbert P. Hyre Jr. and wife Betty of Buckhannon; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend Scott Hamilton.

In addition to his parents one brother Jack R. Hyre preceded him in death in 1951.

He graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1953. He attended the School of Art in Pittsburgh. He was an interior designer and an antique dealer in New York City and the Philadelphia area for several years before retiring to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

To honor the deceased wishes, cremation will take place and no services.

Kenneth R. "Bob" Winnings, 65, of Niles, Ohio died October 18, 2005 under the care of Southern Hospice.

Bob was born April 17, 1940 in Buckhannon, the son of Pauline Winnings and Clyde Robinson.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Jean White; four sons Kenny; Bobby Jo and wife Sheila; Chuck and wife Angle of Buckhannon and George and wife Vickie of Youngstown, Ohio; five daughters Mary Harper and husband Bob; Maxine and husband Fred Small of Buckhannon; Betty Jo of Gerrard, Ohio; Lucy of Grand, Ohio and Jeanie of Greenwich, Ohio; 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister Maxine Warner of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Winnings was cremated.

Gene H. Wilson, 85, of Buckhannon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Wilsontown, a son of the late Oscar J. and Bernice Fidler Wilson.

His first wife, Mildred H. Wilson, preceded him in death.

His second wife, Juanita Brohard Wilson, survives him.

A son, Michael G. Wilson and wife Pam, of Buckhannon, and one daughter, Lisa W. Seaborn and husband John, of Richmond, Va., survive him.

A stepson, Joey Reger, of Buckhannon, and one stepdaughter, Charlotte Anderson, of Baltimore, Md., survive him as well.

Eight grandchildren: M. Todd Wilson and wife Jennifer, of Charleston, Nicole Kelly and husband Christopher, of Monroeville, Pa., Madison Seaborn, of Richmond, Va., Steven Anderson, Terri L. Jack, both of Baltimore, Md., Jeremy Reger, Joshua Todd Reger and Michaella Reger, all of Buckhannon, also survive him.

Five great-grandchildren: Keisha C. Wilson, Kelsey A. Wilson, both of Buckhannon, Connor T. Kelly, of Monroeville, Pa., Miah Reger, of Buckhannon, and Bradley Nelson, of Baltimore, Md., survive him as well.

Two sisters: Billie Ridgeon, of California, and Roberta Wilfong, of Mississippi, survive him, as do several nieces and nephews.

Two brothers: Paul Wilson and Robert Wilson, along with three sisters: Phyllis Zickefoose, Carol Lewis and Oneita Masters preceded him in death.

Mr. Wilson was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corp, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was retired from the Upshur County Board of Education, where he was director of transportation and director of the warehouse.

Mr. Wilson was a past master of the Rock Cave Lodge No. 81, past worthy patron of the Oletha Chapter No. 82 Eastern Star of Rock Cave, and a member of the Upshur County No. 34 RAM. He was a member of the French Creek DAV Chapter No. 36, and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 3663 of Buckhannon.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2005; from 4 to 8 p.m. Mr. Wilson will be moved to the Wilson Chapel UM Church on Friday, Dec. 9, 2005, where he will lie in state from 10 to 11 a.m. the funeral hour.

Interment will follow in the Wilsontown Cemetery. The Rock Cave Lodge No. 81, will have Masonic services at the graveside.

Noel "Bud" Casto, 86, of Buckhannon, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at Louis A. Johnson V.A. Medical Center.

Mr. Casto was born April 25, 1919, in French Creek, the son of the late Esker Casto and Myrtle Maude Spaur Casto.

He was united in marriage in 1944 to Alice Ruth Leaseburg Casto, who preceded him in death in 1991.

Seven nephews survive him. A special nephew, Mason and wife Dora Neely, of Rock Cave, survive him. A niece also survives him.

In addition to his father, mother and wife, a brother, Otis Casto, a sister Margaret Hull and one niece also preceded him in death.

Mr. Casto was a casket maker with R&B Casket Company. He was a Methodist by faith. He was a member of the Buckhannon VFW Post No. 3663.

Friends will be received Monday, Dec. 12, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Vickie Sheppard officiating.

Burial will take place at the Rock Cave Cemetery.

Opal Jane Garlow, 92, of Buckhannon, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Feb. 17, 1913, in Cubana in Upshur County, a daughter of the late Eli and Nettie Leigh Zickefoose.

She was united in marriage on Feb. 24, 1936, to Nuzum G. Garlow, who preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 1990.

A sister, Montie Garlow, of Tallmansville Road, survives her. Four nieces: Doris Garlow Carter and husband John, of Nutter Fort; Joan Garlow Bailey and husband Earl, of Fairmont; Margaret Garlow McCauley and husband Joseph, of Charleston, S.C.; and Mary Lee Foster Settle and husband Charles, of Capron, Va.; also survive her.

A nephew Guy Maxwell Foster and wife Yvonne, of Tallmansville Road survives her as well.

In addition to her father, mother and husband, two sisters: Lundie Zickefoose and Beatrice Foster preceded her in death.

Mrs. Garlow was a member of the Mt. Olive United Methodist Church in Hemlock and attended the Tennerton United Methodist Church.

She was a homemaker and a teacher.

Ruth G. Strader, long time resident of Crawford and more recently of Spencer, W.Va., died Thursday, December 8, 2005, four days after her 98th birthday at Roane General Hospital in Spencer.

She was born Dec. 4, 1907, at Evergreen, the daughter of the late Bryant J. and Luella G. Martin. She was united in marriage on October 29, 1932, to the late Paul E. Strader, who preceded her in death in 1998.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law Calvin L. and Emmadale Strader of Parkersburg, two daughters and sons-in-law: Thelda L. and Paul Hughes of Spencer, and Paula L. and Bob Howe of Indiantown, Fla.; six grandchildren: Dr. Nikola Strader and Dr. Rockelle Strader both of Columbus, Ohio, Lisa Bradley of Charleston, Greg Hughes of Fairfax, Va., Mark and Franklin Howe, both of Palm City, Fla., four great-granddaughters, two great-grandsons, and two unborn great-grandchildren; and sister Lucy Brady of Florida.

Mrs. Strader graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1929. She received a standard normal teaching degree from West Virginia Wesleyan in 1931 and taught one year. After World War II, she was substitute teacher in Lewis County for many years. She later taught school in Preston County for six years.

In 1941, she was a charter member of the Crawford Community Farm Women's Club, now the Community Educational Outreach Service (CEOS). In 1945, she organized and was leader of the Crawford Indian Trail 4-H Club. She was active in politics and was a Republican Committee woman. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge and was a member of the Crawford United Methodist Church.

Her family and friends will remember her hospitality, good cooking and homemade bread.

Bethene V. Hull, 94, of Buckhannon died Friday, December 9, 2005 at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice of Buckhannon. She was born Nov. 25, 1911, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Albert Tenney and Stella Glass Tenney. She was united in marriage on Jan. 26, 1942 to the late Hugh Hull, who preceded her in death on Feb. 23, 1995.

A son Bernard Hugh Hull, three brothers: Kiser, Elles and Victor Tenney; and a sister Fleta Hull also preceded her in death.

Surviving are daughter-in-law Nancy (Grill) Hull Wilson of Buckhannon; two granddaughters: Beth Ann and Rick Rickman and Lori Jan and Scott Heater all of Buckhannon; four great-granddaughters: Arianna, Alison and Abigail Rickman and Reagan Heater, all of Buckhannon; two sisters: Margie Reese of Clarksburg and Letha Hinkle of Barberton, Ohio.

Mrs. Hull was a homemaker.

Joseph Elzy Oldaker, 93, passed away in Elkins, W.Va. at Nella's Nursing Home on December 9, 2005.

Joseph was born July 8, 1912 in Clarksburg, the son of Lowery Elzy Oldaker and Willie (Lawson) Oldaker. He is survived by one sister, Geneva (Oldaker) Taylor of Rock Cave and one brother, Edward Lawson Oldaker of Buckhannon. He was preceded in death by one sister Mary Frances (Oldaker) Beeson; two brothers, William Bailey Oldaker and David Lynn Oldaker Sr.; and nephew David Lynn Oldaker Jr.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Kathleen Sue Rymeski of Portland, Ore.; Lisa Palmer of Grafton, Mass.; Bradley R. Oldaker of Weston; Phillip Oldaker and Michael Oldaker, both of Buckhannon; Stephen Oldaker of Texas; Joseph Beeson of South Charleston; David Beeson of Jefferson, Md. and one step-nephew, Richard R. Hawkins of Mooresville, N.C. He is also survived by two sister-in-laws Lois (Westfall) Oldaker and Marie (Jones) Oldaker, both of Buckhannon and one brother-in-law Roy G. Taylor of Rock Cave.

Joe graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1930. He later attended West Virginia Wesleyan College where he starred in track and tennis. He has received many sports awards including being inducted into the W.Va. Wesleyan Sports Hall of Fame. He was given the West Virginia Collegiate Athletic Association Award as the all-time tennis player and the Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award by West Virginia Wesleyan College.

He bought the Acme Book Store from Hack Humphries and operated it for many years until he retired. He never married but took care of his mother until her death in 1968. He then sold her house on Smithfield St. and moved to 207 Randolph Street where he lived for over 20 years and moved when he was no longer able to take care of himself. He was a member of the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.

Joe served in the U.S. Army in World War II with the 3609th Quartermaster Truck Company. He served in England, France, and Germany and was in the Battle of the Bulge. His company had a reunion every two years and Joe attended many of them including hosting one in Buckhannon.

He was a sports devotee and gave financial support to West Virginia Wesleyan College and to many of the basketball players. He loved to fish and hunt and has fished in many states and in Canada. He made many trips to visit his brother Ed in Arizona where they fished in the White Mountains of Arizona.

A memorial will be held for Joe at the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church at a later date.

Lola Baxa Bonar, 92, passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Pinelake Health and Rehab in Carthage, N.C. after an extended illness.

She was a resident of Seven Lakes, N.C. Prior to living in North Carolina, she had been a resident of Charleston and Buckhannon.

Born January 14, 1913 in Selbyville, she was the daughter of the late Albert F. and Ida Sayre Baxa. She was preceded in death by her husband Ross Bonar, two brothers Williard O. Baxa and Ernest G. Baxa and a sister Lena Baxa Reed.

She was a graduate of Buckhannon High School, West Virginia Wesleyan College and Marshall University. She was a teacher for 31 years and a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, Kanawha County Association of Retired School Employees, Eastern Star and The Emeritus Club of WVWC.

She was a hospital volunteer at Women and Children's Hospital in Charleston.

Lola had been a member of Christ Church United Methodist in Charleston since 1951 where she also had done volunteer work.

After moving from Charleston to Seven Lakes, N.C., she attended Pinehurst United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two daughters Carol Bonar Spencer Shumate and husband Jim of Greensboro, N.C. and Nancy B. Bowling and husband L.G. of Seven Lakes; her grandson Jeffrey D. Spencer and wife Deborah and two great-granddaughters, Molly and Mia Spencer, all of Chapel Hill, N.C. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Martha Baxa of Cape Coral, Fla. and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Abigail Lee Burnside, newborn daughter of John and Keely Hinkle Burnside of Buckhannon died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born on December 10, 2005 in Buckhannon. In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother Jay Burnside of Buckhannon; maternal grandmother Becky Hinkle of Buckhannon; maternal grandfather Jeff Hinkle of Buckhannon; paternal grandparents Eric and Bebe Burnside of Buckhannon; maternal great-grandparents Clifford and Betty Rollins of Stuart, Fla. and Maxine Hinkle of Buckhannon; paternal great-grandfather Bob Burnside of Buckhannon and paternal great-grandmother Josephine Shaw of Buckhannon.

Eugene Russell, 82, of French Creek died at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg on Monday, December 12, 2005.

He was born Oct. 30, 1923, at Alexander, a son of the late Grover and Harriet Pringle Russell.

He was united in marriage on Dec. 9, 1951 to Kathern Sandy Russell, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Sheila Cutright of Buckhannon and Kathy and husband Tom Ellis of Weston; four sons: Junior and wife Karen Russell of Crossville, Tenn., Charles Russell of French Creek, Tom and wife Stephanie Russell of Louisville, Ky., Mark and wife Angie Russell of Selbyville; eight grandchildren: Dorian and Sarah Russell of Spokane, Wash., Cora Cutright of Buckhannon, Sonora and Katlyn Page of Weston, Lindsay Russell of Kentucky, Kirk and Megan Russell of Selbyville; one great-grandchild Kristiana Carpenter of Buckhannon; brother Claude Russell of Ambridge, Pa.; two sisters: Gilsie Tenney of Rock Cave and Irene Tenney of French Creek; one sister-in-law Marylena Russell of French Creek; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Harold and Darrell Russell and two sisters: Thelma Marsh and Lena Tenney.

Mr. Russell was retired from Harper Lumber Company; he was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Combat Engineers. He was a member of the French Creek Chapter No. 36 DAV and a member of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where he served as superintendent and was a Sunday school teacher for several years.

Preston Stegmeier, 49, of Buckhannon died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at his home. He was born Jan. 22, 1956, in Elizabeth, N.J., a son of the late George Stegmeier and Audrey Mogner Stegmeier. In addition to his parents, one brother George Stegmeier also preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons: Peter and Patrick Stegmeier both of Linden, N.J.; brother Wayne Stegmeier of Montana and sister Karen Wilson of Brick, N.J. Mr. Stegmeier was a truck driver.

Memorial services were held Sunday, December 11, 2005, at the Victor Assembly of God Church in Weston.

Paul Joseph "PJ" Kelly, of French Creek, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born July 9, 1933, in Scranton, Pa., a son of the late Peter Joseph Kelly and Mary Kelly.

In addition to his father and mother, a brother preceded him in death.

Mr. Kelly was an electrician and elevator inspector. He was a member of God's Church. He was farmer of the year in the 1970s.

Nina Burroughs, 80, of Heaters, W.Va.; passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2005, at her home.

She was born July 2, 1925, in Roanoke, W.Va. a daughter of the late Jessie and Ellabelle McClain Riffle.

She was united in marriage on July 8, 1949, to the late James Harold Burroughs, who preceded her in death Nov. 3, 1996.

A sister, Flora Renshaw, of Pierpont, Ohio, and a brother Paul Riffle, of Walkersville, survive her, as do several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

She was a member of the Mt. Harmony United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

Friends will be received today, Friday, Dec. 16, 2005, at the Alkire Funeral Chapel in Ireland, W.Va. from 4 to 8 p.m.

Cary L. Stump, 70, of the Tennerton Community in Buckhannon died on Thursday, December 15, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was born Nov. 12, 1935, in Gassaway, the son of the late Olen Stump and Reta Whisman Stump, who survives. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his second wife Kay Riffle Stump of Buckhannon; daughter Alma and Don Flint of Sutton; son Olen and Robin Stump of Buckhannon; two granddaughters: Jessica Flint of Redford, Mich. and Mandy Lockard of Belleville, Mich.; grandson Ryan Stump of Buckhannon; brother George and Debbie Stump of Greensburg, Pa.; two step daughters: Becky and husband Bobby Conrad, and Lisa and husband Scott Stout all of Orlando, W.Va.; two step grandsons: Joshua Conrad and Tyler Stout both of Orlando, W.Va.; two niece: Heather Ochaleck of Lithia, Fla. and Holly Stump of Salisbury, N.C.

In addition to his father, his first wife Alice Stump, who died March 27, 2001, preceded him in death.

Mr. Stump was a construction worker and attended Cornerstone Assembly of God.

He was a devoted husband and dad, loved fishing, camping, hunting, being outdoors and spending time with family.

Jason Riley Crites, 30, of French Creek died Thursday, December 15, 2005, due to injuries sustained in a logging accident. He was born June 10, 1975, in Wooster, Ohio, a son of Riley Wayne and Diana Brannon Crites both of French Creek. He was united in marriage on August 16, 1997 to Kimberly Chapman Crites, who survives at French Creek. He is also survived by two sons: Levi Riley and Garret Lee Crites both at home and a daughter due to be born in March 2006; one sister Dawn and husband Vinson Robinson of the Abbott Rd.; two nephews: Trenton Robinson and Jacob Chapman; and four nieces: Lindsay Robinson, Courtney and Camberly Leary and Krissa Chapman. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law Carroll and Susie Chapman of Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents Harold and Mildred Brannon and paternal grandparents Bill and Rita Crites.

Jason was the owner and operator of Levi & Garret Trucking and Levi Garret Enterprise. Jason loved racing. He loved his family very much and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Jason was a Christian.

James E. Golden, 96, of Buckhannon died Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born Nov. 2, 1909, in Boonville, New York, a son of the late Patrick Golden and Margret Tine Golden. He was united in marriage on June 14, 1935, to the late Arvilla M. Brockway Golden, who preceded him in death on June 18, 2003. In addition to his parents and wife, one son Sr. Master Sgt. Donald Golden, brother Donald Golden and two sisters: Kathleen Giblin and Mae Spencer preceded him in death.

Surviving are son Michael and wife Lana Golden of Buckhannon; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Golden was a machinist for Rever Copper & Brass, in Rome, New York. He attended the Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Etta Virginia Coyner Long, 81, of Hillsborough, New Jersey died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at JFK at Haven Hospice in Edison, New Jersey. She was born March 14, 1924, in Morgantown, W.Va., the daughter of the late Joseph Garrison and Retta Lane Garrison. She was preceded in death by her first husband Mark Coyner, who died in 1954 and also by her second husband Donald Long, who died in 1993.

Surviving are son Mark Daniel and wife Linda Coyner of Buckhannon; two daughters: Linda Lou Coyner and husband Jerome Greene of Naples, Fla. and Peggy and husband Stanley Nadbielny of Hillsborough, New Jersey; brother Tom and wife Ada Garrison of Dunbar, W.Va.; grandson Mark Daniel Coyner Jr. and wife Amanda of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two granddaughters: Charla D. Escobar and husband Michael of Moriches, New York and Caren D. Wilcher and husband Lyn of Charleston, W.Va.; great-granddaughters: Dominique Demus and Ashlee Wilcher; great-grandsons: Matteo Escobar, Mark Aaron Coyner, and Christian Lee Coyner.

Mrs. Long was a homemaker. She was a resident of Hillsborough, N.J. spending her winters in Naples, Fla. and vacationing frequently in Buckhannon. Mrs. Long was an animal lover and enjoyed gardening, cooking and feeding the birds.

Judith Kay Lewis Thompson, 46, of Sarasota, Fla. died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, after a four-week fight for life, following surgery for aneurysms. She was born Nov. 11, 1959 in Buckhannon, a daughter of James W. Lewis, who survives in Buckhannon. She is also survived by her mother and step-father Jeannette Bunner Lewis Easton and James Easton of Buckhannon; and two brothers: Jerry R. Lewis of Buckhannon and Dennis J. Lewis of Rock Cave.

She was united in marriage on December 28, 1992 to Charlie Thompson, who survives.

Judy graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School in 1978 and had been employed by the board of education for several years before moving to Harrisonburg, Va. Judy and her husband Charlie had recently moved to Sarasota, Fla.

Doris J. Taylor, 80, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away Dec. 22, 2005, at Oakbridge Health Care Center.

She was born June 21, 1925, in Elmira, N.Y. She lived in Illinois for 21 years. She was a legal secretary and a member of the Church of the Resurrection.

Her husband, Charles E. Taylor preceded her in death, as did a son, Philip C. Taylor.

Three sons: Stephen A. Taylor, of Lakeland, Fla.; Timothy M. Taylor, of Covington, Ga.; and Christopher J. Taylor Sr., of Lakeland, Fla.; survive her.

A daughter, Janice M. Green, of Langhorne, Pa., and a brother Robert Rohde, of Horseheads, N.Y., also survive her.

Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive her as well.

A memorial mass will be held. The funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at the Church of the Resurrection at 10 a.m.

Maye H. Rohrbough, 88, of Buckhannon died Friday, December 23, 2005, at her home under the care of St. Joseph's Hospice.

She was born March 11, 1917, in Grassy Meadows, W.Va., a daughter of the late Issac Neil Hamrick and Effie Maye Allen Hamrick. She was married to the late Dewey E. Rohrbough. In addition to her parents and husband, also preceding her in death are six brothers: George, Okey, Cecil, Frank, John and Jimmy; and two sisters: Geneva Baker and Ruby Rogers. Surviving is a sister, Ada LaFon of Pasadena, Md., and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rohrbough was a beautician. She attended Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, was a member of the United Methodist Women and AARP, and was kitchen chairperson for Chapel Hill for many years.

Carlton P. Krepps, 60, of Fairmont and formerly of Buckhannon went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 23, 2005 at Fairmont General Hospital. He was born in Forsterville, W.Va. on January 11, 1945, a son of the late James Ira and Oma Smith Krepps.

He had worked as a coal miner for the Peabody Coal Company of Prenter, W.Va. Mr. Krepps was a member of the Viola Church. In addition, he was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the National Rifle Association. He was proud of his family and loves spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Carolyn Sue Estep Krepps, three sons and daughter-in-law: James R. and Tammy K. Krepps of Fairmont, Pastor Scott A. and Brenda Lee Krepps of Fairmont, and Rev. Bryant E. and Cindy D. Krepps of Pinch, a sister Betty A. McGlocklin and her husband Fred of Oronogo, Miss.; five grandchildren: Caleb, Paige, Haley, Payton, and Evan Krepps.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Catherine Virginia Lemon Quick Andrews, 81, of Rt. 2 Buckhannon, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Holbrook Nursing Home. She was born December 19, 1924 in Flemington, W.Va., a daughter of the late David F. and Mary E. Graham Lemon. She was raised by her grandparents, the late George W. and Margarett E. Lemon. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles A. Quick, who died in 1975.

She is survived by her second husband, Richard B. Andrews of Buckhannon. Also surviving are: three stepsons, Dan and Steve Andrews and James and wife Julie Andrews of Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Naomia Dixon of Parkersburg; and her stepfather and stepmother, Rollin and Carroll Alexander of Florida.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Swaney; one brother, Gilbert W. Lemon; and two stepsons, Dennis and Mark Andrews.

Catherine was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 18 of Buckhannon and a member of the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church.

Austin Cole Abel, infant son of Philip Abel II and Sara Wagoner Abel of Ellamore, died Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. He is survived by his maternal grandparents, Danny and Donna Wagoner of Buckhannon, and paternal grandparents, Philip and Twila Abel of Buckhannon.

Also surviving are his maternal great grandfather, Harold Donald Wagoner of Buckhannon; his paternal great grandmother, Mary Abel of Buckhannon; and maternal great grandparents, Forest Gail and Annabell Hardman of Buckhannon. He is survived by two aunts, Ashlee Wagoner and Liza Abel, and two uncles, Levi Abel and Jonah Wagoner. Several great aunts and great uncles also survive.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great grandmother, Olga Wagoner, paternal great grandfather, Albert Abel, and paternal great grandparents, Elza and Mazie Currence.

Private services for the family will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2005 with Pastor Ed McDaniels officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery at Hemlock.

George William Davis II passed away Saturday, Dec. 24 at his home. He was 49 years old.

Mr. Davis was born in Paris, France. He was a lifelong resident of Crystal River, Fla. He moved to the Buckhannon area 11 years ago. He was preceded in death by his brother Cecil Wayne Davis Jr.

Survivors include his parents Cecil and Mary Davis, of Florida.

Two daughters: Kim and husband Ron, of Buckhannon, and Nicole and husband Raymond, of Weston, also survive him.

Two sons: "Skip", of Buckhannon, and Derek and wife Angie, also of Buckhannon, also survive him.

Three sisters: Cindy, of Florida, Becky Smith and husband Dolan, of Florida, and Jenny Gubbins and husband Jeff, of Florida, survive him as well.

One brother, Jeff Davis and wife Christine, of Florida, survive him, as do five grandchildren: Bo, Courtney, Katie, Cheyenne and Dakota.

Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was a production manager and a Southern Baptist by faith.

Robert Orvan Hinkle, 87, of Cleveland, W.Va., died Sunday, December 25, 2005, at Kindred Hospital in Oakdale, Pa. He was born Dec. 1, 1918, in Wheeler, W.Va., a son of the late Atha and Lena Berry Hinkle. He was united in marriage on July 9, 1953, to Rella Fisher Hinkle of Cleveland.

Surviving are five sons: Charles Edward Fisher of Crawford, Arnie Hinkle of Cleveland, Ronald Hinkle of Petersburg, Billy Hinkle of Petersburg, and Harold Ross Hinkle of New Martinsville; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sister Retha Casto of Hacker Valley; and three brothers: Roy Hinkle of Cleveland, Ronald Hinkle of Parkersburg and Arlos Hinkle of New Martinsville.

Three sons, one grandson and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Hinkle was a U.S. Army Veteran and served during World War II. He was a logger.

Hilda "Kitty" DePoy Gould, 75, of the Alton community in Adrian, died Thursday, December 29, 2005 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg. She was born November 25, 1930 in Alton, the daughter of the late Willie and Sylvia Bennington Gould.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Clyde Newman DePoy. Mrs. Gould is survived by her second husband, David Ford Gould, of Alton.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons Clyde DePoy of Alton and Carl DePoy of Buckhannon, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Beulah G. Haymond, 97, of Buckhannon and formerly of Gaines, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at her home. She was born October 15, 1908 in Removal, W.Va., the daughter of the late Levi Morgan Hall, Jr. and Rebecca Barbara Perrine Hall. On January 11, 1930, she married the late Elmer J. Haymond who died on September 29, 1997.

Surviving are seven children: Doris Wilson and husband Freddie (Jim) of Sissonville, Vesta Williamson and husband Ronald of Corvallis, Ore., Esta LaBeck and husband Alden of Seal Rock, Ore., James Haymond and wife Evelyn of Tallmadge, Ohio, Donis Martin of Buckhannon, Carol Davidson of Rock Cave, and Linda Sprauer and husband Allen of Woodburn, Ore.; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, brother Leonard Hall and wife Randa of Sebring, Fla., two sisters Esta Ellis of Zanesville, Ohio and Rella Carpenter of Spanish Fork, Utah, and a sister-in-law Hazel Davidson of Buckhannon.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son Lynn W. Haymond, daughter Helen Louise Haymond, three brothers: Walter, Earl and Millard Hall, five sisters: Lula Carter, Rose Markeley, Elsie Hamilton, Madelyn Kochenour, and Laura Moyer, and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Haymond was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church and a homemaker.

Herbert E. DeGarmo, 80, of Buckhannon, died Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Holbrook Nursing Home. He was born August 20, 1925 in Suncrest, W.Va., the son of the late Charles William "Charlie" and Fannie Gillispie DeGarmo.

He was married to Madalene Anita Nutter DeGarmo, of Buckhannon, and they celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters: Karen Sue Boyles and husband Ken of Buckhannon, Catherine M. Simons and husband Dirk, of Charlotte, N.C., Barbara D. Alherimi and husband Naim of Navarre, Fla., Sharon Walia and husband Neelu of Antioch, Calif., and Sandra L. Williams and husband Ron of Buckhannon; four sons: James DeGarmo and fiancee Sally Malloy of Fairfax, Va., Edward DeGarmo and wife Carla of Gassaway, John DeGarmo, of Buckhannon, and Franklin "Skip" DeGarmo of Washington, D.C.; 20 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; sister Kate Abriel of Trenton, Mich. and three nephews: Bill Chideser and wife Phyllis, Rick Davis and wife Roseann, and Phil Davis, all of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by son Charles Michael "Mike" DeGarmo Sr., sister Mildred Davis and brother Ralph Edward DeGarmo.

Mr. DeGarmo was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and had worked for 22 years for the Upshur County Board of Education as a maintenance man/electrician.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a third class gunner's mate on the USS Iowa.

Naomi C. "Peg" Long age 72 of Rock Cave, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was born October 24, 1933 in Upshur County a daughter of the late Hendrix and Naomi Gillespie Heater. She was united in marriage on August 30, 1952 to Tom Long who survives.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, Burlin Long and wife Kim of Rochester, Pa. and one daughter, Dianne Long of Conway, Pa., two granddaughters, Andrea Long of Conway, Pa. and Amanda Radaker of Rochester, Pa. She is also survived by one brother, Thomas Heater of Minnesota and one sister, Ruth Lehman of Oklahoma, one sister-in-law, Marianne Heater of Arizona. Several nieces and nephews survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Mrs. Long loved her grandchildren, she also loved her dogs, she enjoyed reading and crocheting. She was retired after 30 years of service as a physical therapist assistant with the Beaver County Geriatric Center. She was a Methodist by faith and attended the Salem Ridge UM Church.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Mrs. Long will be moved to the Salem Ridge UM Church on Friday to lie in state from 10-11 a.m., the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Salem Ridge Cemetery.

Wanda Lorraine (Phillips) Humphreys, 84, of Pennsylvania passed away on Thursday, December 29, 2005 in Economy Boro, Ambridge, Pa. She was the beloved wife of the late Dayton P. Humphreys, who passed away November 2004. She is the mother of Kenneth P. Humphreys and wife Dorothy of Baden, Pa., and Dan L. Humphreys and wife Lynn of Mars, Pa. Five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive her. Mrs. Humphreys was a resident of Creek Meadows Senior Guest Haus in Zelienople and a member of Pine Hurst Christian Missionary Alliance in Economy Boro. Services will be private. Charles Arnold Jones, 85, of Buckhannon died Friday, December 30, 2005, at St. Joseph's Hospital. He was born Dec. 7, 1920, a son of the late Ira Jones and Goldie Duncan Jones. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by five brothers: Burl, Keith, Russell, Robert Noel and Paul Jones, and sister Mary Jean Elbon.

Surviving are two sisters, Virginia and husband Ralph Goodwin of Buckhannon and Genevieve Taylor of Buckhannon, and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Mr. Jones was retired from Upshur Coals Corp. He attended French Creek United Methodist Church, was a member of the WV Farm Bureau, a member of the K of P Lodge of Buckhannon, and served in the US Army during World War II.

Geraldine Kathlene Burr McCartney, 81, of Buckhannon died Sunday, January 1, 2006 at Holbrook's Nursing Home in Buckhannon. She was born July 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Edward Brud Burr and Mabel Smith Burr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Trexel G. McCartney, who passed away on September 20, 1996.

Surviving are two sons, James McCartney of French Creek and Richard and wife Dianna McCartney of French Creek; a daughter, Janie Elaine McCartney of Buckhannon; two grandsons, Richard Gene McCartney and James Kevin McCartney, both of French Creek; a granddaughter, Kathy Lou Phillips of Martinsburg; four brothers, Junior Burr of Buckhannon, Tony Burr of French Creek, Frank Burr of Buckhannon, and Richard Burr, also of Buckhannon; seven sisters, Joan Jones of Buckhannon, Imogene Donley of Painsville, Ohio, Sue Isabella of Painsville, Ohio, Faye Black of French Creek, Martha Lewis of Buckhannon Jennie Reed of French Creek and Helen Heater of Buckhannon; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Burr, and a sister.

William Charles Andrus, 71 of Buckhannon, passed away Friday, December 30, 2005 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg of myelodysplastic syndrome/acute leukemia. He was born June 25, 1934 in Takoma Park, Maryland, a son of the late Lucian Miller and Mary Katherine Page Andrus. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Patty Tenney Andrus, daughter of Wendell and the late Freda Kelley Tenney, whom he married on January 26, 1965 in Rockville, Md. He is survived by one son, Jeff and daughter-in-law Pamela Andrus of York, S.C. and one daughter, Wendy Andrus of Buckhannon. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Jason and Michelle Andrus of York, S.C. and one sister, Mary Ellen. Brother-in-law Charles May of Laurel, Md. also survives.

He was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Andrus.

Mr. Andrus served in the U.S. Army for two years. He enjoyed ham radio, traveling, watching television, farming and John Deere tractors.

He attained a degree in industrial arts from Central Michigan University. He was retired from the Upshur County School Board, where he worked as a custodian. Past places of employment included the Weston State Hospital and Corhart's.

He was a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the funeral hour, with Rev. William C. Eskew, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Upshur County Memorial Park. At the request of the family, there will be a closed casket. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org/donate. The Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Gladys Lenora Pritchard Cozad, 96, of Grafton, passed away Friday, December 30, 2005 at Grafton City Hospital. She was born August 28, 1909 in Philippi, a daughter of the late Danna and Amanda Croston Pritchard. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Christian Church of Grafton. In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by six sisters, six brothers and son-in-law Leo "Jerry" Donahue.

Gladys is survived by her son, Larry Cozad of Grafton; a daughter, Wanda Donahue of Buckhannon; four grandchildren, Lisa Shaw of Buckhannon, Kim Temple of Westchester, Pa., Tracy Farnsworth of Weston, and Jerry Donahue of Buckhannon; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Lelah Bennett of Grafton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the Bartlett Funeral Home in Grafton with the Rev. James Edward Martin officiating.

Interment will follow in Woodsdale Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening.

Paul Morrison Sr., 58, of St. Marys died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at Shands Jacksonville, Fla.

A native of Fairmont, W.Va., he had resided in Camden County for the past three years and was a retired coal miner with Consolidated Coal Co., and was a substitute school teacher for the Camden County School Board.

He was a 30-year member of the Lion's Club International; member of the United Mine Workers of America, District 31, Local 9909; veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during Vietnam; and a member of Crooked River Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Morrison of St. Marys; sons, Paul (Barbara) Morrison Jr., of St. Marys and Barry (Mindy) Morrison of Fairmont; sister, Frances Baker of Fairmont; brothers, James E. Morrison of Smith Town, W.Va., and Russell E. Morrison of Fairmont; grandchildren, Charity and Chastity Morrison, Karrie Faith Morrison, Cassie Mae Morrison and Captain Ben Morrison.

Funeral services were held at p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Allison Memorial Chapel in St. Marys, with the Rev. Keith A. Hamilton and the Rev. J. Mark Thornton officiating.

The family received friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20 at the funeral home.

Allison Memorial Chapel of St. Marys is in charge of arrangements.
