Stanley R. Collins Sr.

Stanley Ralph Collins Sr., 69, of Thomas, died Dec. 1, at the home of his sister-in-law, Margaret J. Collins, where he had resided for the past two years.  He was born April 12, 1936, at Buckhannon, a son of the late Cecil Guy and Ivy Daisy Belle Welch Collins.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mazie Marie Collins, in 1999.  Also preceding him in death were one daughter, Pamela; two brothers, Bueford and Raymond; one sister, Dorothy; and one grandson.

Survivors include four sons, Stanley R. Collins Jr. and Raymond Collins, both of Thomas, Dwayne Collins of Terra Alta and Timothy Collins of Huttonsville; two daughters, Evona and Stanley Moats of Aurora and Misty and Brian Saunders of Kingwood; two brothers, Ronald Collins of Wadestown and Eugene Collins of Century; two sisters, Evangaline Watson and Verdinia Lawson, both of Galloway;12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

He was a retired coal miner for Consol Energy. He was a member of UMWA District #31, Mountain Top Hunt Club and the Pentecostal Church of Brownton.

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis on Dec. 2. Funeral services were at Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Dec. 3 at 1 p.m.with the Rev. Shirley Webster officiating. Interment followed in Simpson Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.   

David D. Faunce

David Davies “LD” Faunce, 29, passed away Oct. 25, at Martin Memorial South Hospital, Stuart, Fla.

He was born July 17, 1976, at Elkins, the son of David Davies Faunce III of Stuart, Fla. and Nora K. Worden Faunce of Davis.

Survivors include his paternal grandfather, David D. Faunce Jr. of Florida; five uncles, Jeffrey Faunce of Rochester, N.Y., Gene Worden of Parsons, Ed Worden of Davis, George Worden of Elkins and Tim Worden of Davis; and one aunt, Cheryl Faunce of Jupiter, Fla.

He was a graduate of TCHS with the class of 1994.

At the request of his family, his remains were cremated. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Dec. 10 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Davis. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to the National Bank of Davis, P.O. Box 517, Davis, W.Va. 26260. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  From 7 Dec 2005.

James Gatto

James Junior Gatto, 70, a resident of Hendricks, died  Dec. 4, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins. Death was attributed to pneumonia.

He was born Wednesday, April 10, 1935, at Coketon, a son of the late Bruno Gatto and Minnie Paugh Gatto.  On Jan. 30, 1955, at Oakland, Md., he was married to the former Catherine Marie Bohon, who survives.

Survivors include a son, James David (and Helen) Gatto, Sr. of Fairview; two daughters, Donna Lynn (and Robert) Roy of Parsons, and Bonnie Marie (and Jimmy) Thompson of Mt. Zion; one brother, Ralph Gatto of Eglon; three grandchildren, James David Gatto Jr. of Hendricks, Jesse (and Ashley) Roy Jr. of Parsons and Bonnie Lynn (and Mike) Louk of Leadmine; and one great-grandson, Tanner Scott Gatto of Hendricks.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Henry, Joe, Fred and George Gatto; and one sister, Catherine Gatto.

He attended the one-room school at Mackeyville. He was a coal miner for many years, mining coal for North Branch and Dobbin Coal Company. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Dec 6. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on  Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Harley DeLeurere officiating.  Interment will follow at Fansler Cemetery at Hendricks. 

Ruby Gatto

Ruby M. Johnson Gatto, 88, died Nov. 14, 2005 at her home in West Palm Beach, Fla.  She was born July 19, 1917.

She was formerly of Coketon and Maryland and had been a resident of West Palm Beach since the 1960s. 

Survivors include her companion Donald Smith, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, Albert Gatto of Maine; two granddaughters of Maine and two great-grandsons also of Maine.  

Family received friends on Nov. 17, at Dorsey-E. Early Smith Funeral Home 3041 Kirk Road, Lake Worth, Fla.  Graveside services were held at on Nov. 18 at Royal Palm Beach Memorial Gardens, West Palm Beach, Fla.   

Carlton Hehle Sr.

Carlton A. Hehle Sr., 91, of Aiken, S.C. died Nov. 30, at the Aiken Regional Medical Center. 

He was born on June 18, 1914, in Parsons, a son of the late Joseph and Zora Bennett Hehle. 

Survivors include his wife Hilda K. Hehle of Aiken, S.C., a son and daughter-in-law, Carlton (Butch) and Jenny Hehle of Barnwell, S.C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Dave Sheets of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and the retired owner of the Jeffersonian Manor Nursing Home in Charles Town.  He was a member of the American Legion, 50-year member of the Malta Masonic Lodge #80 of Charles Town, the Scottish Rite, Osiris Shrine Temple and the Barnwell United Methodist Church. 

He was first married to the late Beatrice Hehle. 

Funeral services were held Dec. 3, at the Barnwell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joey McDonald and Rev. Bob Clyburn officiating.  Burial followed at the church cemetery with Masonic rites.  

Belva Isner

Belva M. Isner, 81, of Canton, Ohio, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, in Aultman Hospital following an extended illness.  

She was born April 4, 1924 in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Olive (Phillips) Shaffer. 

Survivors include her husband of 65 years Homer Isner; a son James (and Brenda) Isner of Westlake, Ohio; two daughters Lucille (and Herb) Groves of Canton, Ohio and Sandra (and Ron) Herbert of Canton, Ohio; a daughter-in-law  Cindy Lawrence Isner-Weeks of Virginia; three sisters Virginia Shumaker of Grafton, Dortha Baker of Ohio and Marie Poling of Parsons; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.  

She was preceded in death by a son Michael Isner and a sister Loreda Offutt. 

She was a Canton area resident since 1948 and a member of Faith Community Church for over 50 years.  She was also a member of Happy Hearts Senior Citizens at the church. 

Friends were received at the Kreighbaum-Sanders Funeral Home, on Nov. 27.  Funeral services were held Nov. 28 at Faith Community Church, Canton, Ohio with Rev. Glen Osborn, Rev Rodney Price and Rev. David Cobb officiating.  Interment followed in Sunset Hills Burial Park.  

Maxine Judy

Maxine C. Judy, 76, died Nov. 24. 

She was born July 26, 1930, in Thomas, a daugher of the late Florence and Hobart Lipscomb. 

Survivors include a daughter, Lisha Judy; a sister Carol S. Lipscomb Helmick; a brother Donald Lipscomb; sisters-in-law Francis Slawbaugh and Jean Sissler; nieces and nephews Debbie Helmick Chmielewski, Jamie Helmick Waskowski, Susan Helmick Godley, James M. Helmick, Gary A. Helmick, Mary C. Helmick Lamp, Josette Slawbaugh, Donna Lipscomb, Sheila Marker, John Shannon and many others.  

She was preceded in death by her husband Clinton Denver (Buzz) Judy; a son Clinton Denver (Denny) Judy Jr.; sisters Viola Roll, Irene Higby and Louise Shannon; brothers Williard Lipscomb and Hobart (June) Lipscomb Jr.

Funeral services were held at the Tybicki Funeral Home, Garfield Heights, Ohio on Nov. 29.  Interment will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tucker County.   

Nina Layman

Nina Corrine Layman, 94, of Aurora, died Nov. 23, at Windy Hill Manor in Kingwood.

She was born Oct. 26, 1911 at Stemple Ridge, a daughter of the late Cyrus Larkin and Nellie Gray Sanders Pifer. 

Survivors include her husband of 71 years Sheridan William Layman; a son David Carrol Layman of Tallahassee, Fla.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  

She was preceded in death by a son Charles Leon Layman of Tallahassee, three brothers and two sisters.  

She was a housewife. She was a member of Blackwater Rebekah Lodge 274, VFW Post 578 Auxiliary and a life long member of the Aurora Methodist Church.  

Funeral services were held on Nov. 27 at Aurora United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rogers Fike and and the Rev. Deborah Friend officiating.  Interment followed in Aurora Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.   

Larkin Ours 

Larkin B. Ours, 88, of Dorcas, died Dec. 2, at his home. 

He was born in Grant County, a son of the late George E. and Sallie Bond Ours. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Virginia Keller Ours on April 11, 2005.  Also preceding him in death were a sister and three brothers.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. 

He was a lifetime farmer.  He was employed by the W.Va. Department of Agriculture to grade lambs in West Virginia and Pennsylvania and New York.  He was active in 4-H club work and FFA.

In 1954 he was elected to State House of Delegates from Grant County and served on the State ASCS Committee.  He was a member of the Grant County Farm Bureau, the Southern States Board of Directors and chairman of the Grant County Nursing Home Board for 20 years.  HE was a member of the Dorcas Baptist Church and Petersburg Lodge NO. 145 A.F.&A.M.

Surviving are one daughter Sally Dunkle; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law Ann Keller Heishman, a resident of the Grant County Nursing Home.  

The family received friends on Dec. 5 at the Schaeffer Funeral Home.  Funeral services were conducted on Dec. 6 at the Schaeffer Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Donalson and Rev. Richard Longbon officiating.  Burial was in the Olivet Cemetery, Moorefield.  the Petersburg Masonic Lodge conducted graveside rites. 

Memorials may be made to the Larkin B. Ours Scholarship Fund, c/o Grant County Nursing Home, or the Dorcas Baptist Church or the Grant Memorial Hospital Hospice.  

Deborah Parks 

Deborah Lee Cogar Parks, 50, a resident of Holly Meadows Community, Parsons, died Dec. 2, at her home.  She had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer. 

She was born Dec. 30, 1954 at Akron, Ohio, a daughter of Eva Jeanette Cogar of Bridgeport and Edmond Lee and Jean Cogar Holly Meadows.  

Survivors include two sons Michael "Buddy" (and Heather) Cogar of Bridgeport and Kevin Charles Parks of Elkins; two daughters Leslie Lee Kittle of Holly Meadows and Delta Marie (and Norman Lee) Parks of Parsons; one sister Janet (and Rick) Burbridge of West Union; six grandchildren Brittany Kittle, Trevor Kittle, Christina Parks, Joey Cogar, Michael Parks and Noah Cogar and her ever faithful companion Patches. 

She was preceded in death by one sister Freda Louise Cogar. 

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1972 and was a homemaker.  

Friends were received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Dec. 4 with Pastor Pat Cassidy conducting a prayer service.  To honor Deborah's wishes cremation followed.  

Otto Plum

Otto Clyde Plum, 89, a resident of Parsons and a resident of Nella’s Nursing Home at Crystal Springs, died Nov. 28, at  Davis Memorial Hospital at Elkins.

He was born Saturday, April 15, 1916, at Parsons, a son of the late Albert Plum and Maudie Bohon Plum.

Survivors include four sons, William Clyde Plum of Sugarlands, Richard Earl “Rick” Pitzer of Hambleton, Phillip Mark Pitzer of Parsons and Clyde “Sonny” Pitzer of St. George; one stepson, Buddy Pitzer of Holly Meadows; one daughter, Judy Darlene Pitzer of Chantilly, Va.; three sisters, Leota Parsons of Parsons, Dessie Miner of Elkins and Dekota Shahan of Parsons; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude, Arthur, John and Lester Plum; and three sisters, Elsie Shupp, Marie Ludrick and Goldie Loughry. 

He attended the schools of Tucker County. He was a teamster for various logging companies and worked for Hinchcliff Lumber Company for many years.

Friends were received at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Nov. 30. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Dec. 1, with Pastor Pat Cassidy officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. 

Lena Teter

Lena Virginia Bonner Teter, 93, one of the last generation of the Flanagan Hill Community in Red Creek, died Dec. 4, at Nella’s Nursing Home at Elkins.

She was born Jan. 4, 1912, at Flanagan Hill, a daughter of the late Richard Pearl and Girtha Flanagan Bonner.  Her husband, Ted Edgar Teter, preceded her in death in 1986.

Survivors include a son, Douglas E. (and Carol) Teter of Red Creek; five daughters, Gaye K. Yeary of Moore, Okla., Wanda J. Kisner of Zephyrhills, Fla., Doris E. Bonner of Parsons, Barbara K. (and Lee A.) Rohrbaugh of Dry Fork and Wilma F. (and John) Hedrick of Mathias; one daughter-in-law, Louise Armentrout (Teter) of Red Creek; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was preceded in death by one son, Lewis L. Teter; one granddaughter, Pamela Sue Teter; one brother, Jason Bonner; one infant brother; three sisters, Alta Smith, Bessie Carr and Mary Simmons.

She was a life long member of the Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church.

Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home on Dec. 6. Funeral services will be held at Flanagan Hill United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2005 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Lonnie Daniels officiating. Interment will follow in Flanagan Hill Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
