Jessie Colombo
Jessie Sturms Colombo, 78, a former resident of St. George, died July 21 in Canton, Ohio.
She was born April 15, 1927 in St. George, a duaghtr of the late Aubrey and Lillian Phillips Sturm.
Survivors include five sisters Dorothy O'Neal-Leto of Baltimore, Md., Peg Barr of East Canton, Ohio, Dorcas of Pasadena, Md., Geraldine (and Bruce) Brugger of Homeworth, Ohio, and Eleanor (and Harry) Ellis of Pasadena Md.; four brotyers Gene (and Sue) Sturms of Baltimore, Md., Forrest (and Carolyn) Sturms of East Rochester, Ohio, Bill (and Carol) Sturms of East Canton, Ohio and Rodney (and Mavis) Sturms of Beloit, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Ira nestor and her second husband Alfonso Colombo; one sister Gail; and five brothers peck, Aubrey, Dale, Roger and Teddy.
At the request of the deceased she was cremated. Interment was held at the Parsons City Cemetery.
Wilma Melkus
Wilma Lea Melkus, 73, of Davis, died Aug. 29, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born June 3, 1932, in Pierce, a daughter of the late Lawrence Elza and Floda Virginia Turner Arnold.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Joseph Witt Melkus Jr. of Davis; three sons, Joseph Thomas (and Linda) Melkus of Baltimore, Md., Karl V. (and Katrina) Melkus of Hamlin and Edward Melkus of Baltimore, Md.; three daughters, Nancy Criniti, Mary Virginia (and Fred) Crowl and Cathy (and Phil) Martin, all of Davis; two brothers, Lawrence Arnold Jr. of Endicott, N.Y. and Harry Arnold of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Wilda Hile of Bradenton, Fla., and Louise Kirby of Clarksburg;* 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia “Patty” Knotts; and a sister, Ellen Rubenstein.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rebekah Lodge 274 for more than 35 years, and served as Past Nobel Grand. She was a member of Davis United Methodist Church.
Friends were received at Hinkle Funeral Home, Davis on Aug. 31. Funeral services were held at the Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Sept. 1 with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Interment followed in Davis Cemetery.
Edith G. Nestor
Edith Godwin Nestor, 81, a resident of the Haddix community, died Aug. 30, at Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to kidney failure.
She was born Oct. 12, 1923, at Brushy Fork, a daughter of the late Joe Godwin and Ina Pearl Nestor Godwin. On April 12, 1943, at Baltimore, Md., she was married to Elmer Nestor, who preceded her in death May 4, 2001. They had celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage.
Survivors include two sons, Donald Clark (and Lois) Nestor of Clarksburg and Randy Glenn (and Karen) Nestor of the Haddix community; one daughter, Betty Jean (and George) Fazenbaker of Doylestown, Ohio; one brother; Denny (and Doris) Godwin of Brushy Fork; one sister, Dolly Summerfield of Parsons; fourteen grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald Lee Nestor and Lonnie Ray Nestor; one brother, Jacob Brooks Godwin; and three sisters, May Streets, Sylvia Summerfield and Ruth Bohon.
She attended the schools of Brushy Fork. She worked in the shipyards at Baltimore, Md., during World War II, and for the former Nella’s Nursing Home at White Gables. Along with her husband they owned and operated Nestor’s Farm and Fur and Ginseng Business.
Friends were received at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home, Parsons on Sept. 1. Funeral services were conducted at the funeral home parlor on Sept. 2, with Pastor Pat Cassidy officiating. Interment followed at Pifer Mountain Cemetery, Saint George.
