Mary Lash

Mary F. Knofel Lash, 83, of Mt. Oliver and formelry of Thomas, died May 12.  

She was born on Feb. 29, 1922.  

Surivivors include grandsons Daniel R. Brummit and Kenneth J. Brummit. 

She was preceded in death by her husband John K. Lash; daughter, Joann C. Brummit; siblings Christine Susman, Tony Knofel, Frank Knofel, George Knofel, Andy Knofel and Joseph Knofel.  She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.  

Patricia Rodionoff-Peck

Patricia Rodionoff-Peck, 85, a local artist and proprietor of the Green Gal's Gallery in Elkins, died Thursday Evening, May 19, 2005, at Davis Memorial Hospital.  

Ms. Rodionoff-Peck was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Elkins, the only daughter of the late Barnet Thomas Peck of Bluefield and Clara Dennis Adams Peck of St. George.  Ms. Rodionoff-Peck was the widow of Victor Rodionoff, an emigrant from Russia, whom she met and married while studying at the Art Institute of Chicago. 

Ms. Rodionoff-Peck is survived by one daughter, Clara Sophia Rodionoff Halfin and son-in-law Robert Joseph Halfin and son-in-law Robert Joseph Halfin, of St. George.

Ms. Rodionoff-Peck was a graduate of Rainelle High School, West Virginia University, The Art Institute of Chicago and did graduate work toward a Ph.D. in Sociology at the University of Chicago. 

Ms. Rodionoff-Peck worked as a social worker, a schoolteacher and founded the South-Side Cooperative School, in the city of Chicago.  She was an activist during the Civil Rights Movement, and a lifelong advocate of nonviolence , peace and environmental conservation. 

Ms. Rodionoff-Peck was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chicago, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, The Southern Poverty Law Center, the World Wildlife Fund, and The Gorilla Foundation, to name a few.

A memorial service for Ms. Rodionoff-Peck will be held in Elkins.  The date and location of the service are to be announced.
