ALDERSON - Velva Leona Dixon Phillips, 62, formerly of Rainelle, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at her home following a short illness. Born Nov. 30, 1939, in Alderson, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Gracie Bennett Dixon. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Daye Phillips; a brother, Carl Dixon; and a grandson, Christopher Carter. Mrs. Phillips was a certified nursing assistant, having retired from Summers County Continuous Care Center, Hilldale, after 10 years of service. Prior to her employment there, she was a seamstress at the former Kellwood Industries, Maxwelton. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her husband, Harold A. Phillips Sr.; three sons, Rusty Phillips, Mike Phillips and Josh Phil-lips, all of Alderson; three daughters, Rhonda Lemons of Ronceverte and Pam Ayers and Jenny Carter, both of Alderson; a brother, Lee Dixon of Meadow Bridge; five sisters, Jean Frashier-Fox and Carolyn Brown, both of Hopewell, Va., Violet McMillion-Castle of Newport News, Va., Lucy Campbell of Damascus, Md., and Bonnie Killen of Meadow Bridge; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a great-grandchild expected in April; and 46 nieces and ne-phews. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Lobban Funeral Home Chapel, Alderson, with Pastor Ronnie Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Addition of Alderson Cemetery. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be John Ayers Jr., Bill Lemons, James Carter, James Viney, T.C. Freeman and Doug Alderson.
