  • PINEVILLE - Dayton Mullins Jr., 53, died Friday, May 3, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born Aug. 20, 1948, in Welch, he was the son of Laura Kennedy Mullins of Pineville and the late Dayton Mullins Sr. Other survivors include two sons, Travis Lester and his fiance, Sheryl, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Clayton Mullins of Pineville; three brothers, Andy Justice and Kenneth Justice and his wife, Belva, all of Pineville, and Andy Mullins and his wife, Lisa, of Monroe County; four sisters, Wanda Marcum and her husband, Buck, of Kentucky, Loretta Nicholas of Gilbert and Kathy Lane and Janice Little and her husband, Harold, all of Pineville; two special friends, Florence and Bosco Hall of Pinevillel and several nieces and nephews.   • ANSTED - Cecil Harless Bailey, 81, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2002, at Plateau Medical Center of Oak Hill following a long illness. Born Sept. 6, 1920, at Huntington, he was the son of the late Archie and Victoria Hut-chinson Bailey. Mr. Bailey was a retired coal miner for the Gauley Mountain Coal Company. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Judy Faye Peck, in 1995; and a son, Roy Clyde Bailey, in 1991. Surviving are a daughter, Diana Ramsey of Ansted; three sons, Cecil H. Bailey Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Seattle, Wash., Herbert Lee Bailey and his wife, Hyne-Hee of Seattle, Wash., and Kenneth Archie Bailey of Ansted; a sister, Gladys Collins of Ohio; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.   • FAYETTEVILLE - Douglas M. Ball, 60, died Saturday, May 4, 2002, at home suddenly. Born Jan. 31, 1942, at Bozoo, he was the son of the late Allan and Dania Ethel Thomas Ball. Mr. Ball was a retired postal worker with 24 years of service with the Oak Hill Post Office and served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Douglas Ball and his wife, Jennifer, of Coshocton, Ohio, and Kristopher Dodd Ball of Fayetteville; two grandsons, Kody Michael Ball and Zachary Seth Tyler Ball, both of Coshocton, Ohio; three brothers, Bill Ball of Berea, Ohio, Carl "Bus" Ball of Peters-town, and Herman "Monk" Ball of Oak Hill; and five sisters, Betty Sue Johnson of Chapmanville, Shirley Young of Alum Creek, Mary Chemiczak of Brunswick, Ohio, Ethel Jennings of Wooster, Ohio, and Louise Ballard of Peterstown.   • BELLE - Bill W. Backus, 65, passed away Monday, May 6, 2002, in Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness. Mr. Backus was born April 3, 1937, in Ansted, and was the son of the late Erskine and Kathryn Bennett Backus. Mr. Backus was a member of Ansted Church of the Redeem-er and was self-employed as a gas marketing and accounting specialist. Surviving are a sister, Lynn McGraw of Charles Town; an aunt, Helen Hudnall of Miami; and special friend, Darlene Moul of Belle. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home, Ansted, with the Rev. Roy Gene Crist officiating.   • CLEAR FORK - Nannie Lou Brunty, 70, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in a Wyoming County care facility following a long illness. Born Nov. 3, 1931, in Pike County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Rell Mc-Guire Sr. and Mary Reed Mc-Guire. Mrs. Brunty was a homemaker and a member of the Baptist faith. She had been a resident of Wyoming County since 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell Brunty, on Dec. 4, 1999; two brothers, Paul McGuire and Melvin McGuire; and three sisters, Brooke Blevins, Imogene Smith and Juanita Reed. Survivors include a son, Mi-chael R. Brunty and his wife, Rena, of Clear Fork; a daughter, Jennifer Ennis and her husband, Garry, of Albany, Ohio; two brothers, Ruell Mc-Guire and his wife, Lilly, of Pike County, Ky., and Rell McGuire Jr. of Ohio; a sister, Grace Potter and her husband, Herbert, of Pike County, Ky.; and four grandchildren, Brian and Michelle Ennis, both of Albany, Ohio, and Trista and Travis Brunty, both of Clear Fork.   • ANSTED - Alice E. Crist, 93, passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at her residence following a long illness. Born March 5, 1909, at Mucklow, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Marion Hudnall Vandall. Mrs. Crist was a member of Ansted Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Ira Crist, in 1964; two sons, Joseph "Jo-die" Crist in 1996 and William "Babe" Crist in 1991; three sisters, Welba Surrett, Cecile Walker and Laura Hill; a brother, T.R. Vandall; and a grandson, Matthew Crist, in 1988. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Etta Crist of Ansted, Helen Hurst of Selmer, Tenn., and Sue Shuff and her husband, Bill, of Ansted; two daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Crist of Ansted and Nancy Crist of Ansted; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.   • Goldie Irene Ramey Griffith, 86, of Morgan Hills, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, in a Beckley area hospital following a long illness. Born Nov. 10, 1915, in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Virgie Ramey. Mrs. Griffith was a retired school teacher and a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She attended Prosperity First Baptist Church and enjoyed camping and traveling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Griffith; and three brothers, Gerald, Bryce and Otis Ramey.   • DALLAS, Ga. - Sandra Kathleen C. Griffith, 54, of 25 Thomas Drive, formerly of 147 LaRose Circle, Marietta, Ga., died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at her home following approximately six years of failing health. During her stay in Marietta and Cobb County, she worked as a secretary for the Cobb County Board of Education for several years, in the maintenance department. She was born Oct. 13, 1947, the daughter of Foster G. Calvert and Anna Kathleen Maxey Calvert of Raleigh. She was a member of Primitive Baptist Church of Shady Spring. Survivors include her husband, Gale Griffith; a daughter, Amanda Grant and her husband, Timothy, of Wadsworth, Ohio; a son, Derek Griffith and his wife, Amanda, of Kennesaw, Ga.; her father, Foster G. Calvert of Crab Orchard; and a brother, Joseph Calvert and his wife, Jane, of Crab Orchard.   • GILBERT - Myrtle Hatfield, 79, of P.O. Box 677, died Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at Guy-an Valley Hospital, Logan. Born Oct. 30, 1922, at Bruno, she was the daughter of the late Okey and Eskie Hatfield Grimmett. Mrs. Hatfield was a member of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Nancy Vidor, Louisa Workman and Vicie Bryant; and three brothers, Naamon Grimmett, James Okey Grimmett and Joe Grimmett.   • B. Mae McMillion, 77, of Prince, died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, in a Beckley area hospital following a short illness. Born Dec. 19, 1924, in Smythe County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Ora Lee Blevins and Lucy Testerman. Mrs. McMillion was a homemaker. She enjoyed working word puzzles and watching Westerns. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence McMillion Sr. Survivors include her son, Clarence E. McMillion Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Gladwin, Mich.; her three daughters, Carolyn Sue Farley of Prince, Nadine Farley and her husband, Robert, of Clarkston, Mich., and Sonja Vandell and her husband, John, of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.; two sisters-in-law, Irene Gill and her husband, Wilson, and Virginia McMillion and her husband, Emitte; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.   • LITTLE WOLF CREEK - Green Lee Meadows Jr., 69, of Little Wolf Creek, in Summers County, died peacefully on Tuesday, May 7, 2002, at the VA Medical Center at Beckley. Born June 2, 1932, in the family home at Little Wolf Creek, he was the son of the late Sullivan G.L. and Violet Sears Meadows. Mr. Meadows was a decorated Korean War veteran who served as a tank commander in the 3rd Armored Division, U.S. Army. He was a retired certified welder and was a TV repair technician. He was preceded in death by two sons, Ronald W. Meadows on Aug. 7, 1981, and David "Randy" Meadows on Jan. 10, 2002; and a granddaughter, Mary Lee Meadows, on May 5, 1980. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Ruby Juanita Cales Meadows; a daughter, Ruby Lee Wiseman and her husband, Charles Sr., of Reidsville, N.C.; three sons, Reginald "Ricky" Meadows and his wife, Kathy, of Fairfield, Calif., Green Lee Meadows III and his wife, Veronique, of Wilmington, N.C., and Jonathan K. "Joe" Meadows and his wife, Melissa, of Quaker Hill, Conn.; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Velma Lilly of Stanaford and Berlin Sears of Lewisburg. Thompson Sr. Ronald Mac Thompson Sr., 63, in a twinkling of an eye, was escorted by his angel into the arms of his Lord on May 8th, 2002. Ron was born on Aug. 10, 1938, on Herman Street in Hinton. He was the son of the late Charles David and Daisy Nora Lilly Thompson. He spent his childhood at Hinton, where he was a 1956 graduate of Hinton High School. He attended "Old Beckley College," Concord College and was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Self Motivation School. He was a resident of Beckley, settling on Hartley Avenue, since 1972 coming from Charleston. He was in retail management for many years affiliated with the J.C. Penney Co. and Montgomery Ward. He retired from Hurst Medical Supplies. He was a member of the Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member of the BYKOTA Sunday School Class. He was a member of Gideons International, the Beckley Camp. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, airman 2nd class. His public service included Beckley Little League, Beckley Babe Ruth, Midget League Football, a Cub Scout leader, American Legion Post 32, Beckley Moose Lodge, and the Jaycees. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bobby Thompson, who died in defense of his country in the Navy during World War II, Kenneth, Jack and the Rev. Tommy Thompson; two sisters, Jean Thompson Lilly and Betty Jo Ashley; and his father-in-law, Virgil Opie Keaton. Survivors include his wife, Gloria Kathryn Keaton Thompson, their 40th wedding anniversary would have been May 12, Sunday; a daughter and son, Susan Arlene Thompson Harrah of Charleston and Ronald Mac Thompson Jr. of Beckley; his mother-in-law, Charlene Virginia Lilly Keaton of Beckley; a brother-in-law, Jack B.   • FORT SPRING - Elmer W. Burns, 90, passed away Friday, May 10, 2002, at his home following a long illness. Born April 25, 1912, in Fort Spring, he was the son of the late Michael and Minnie E. Massey Burns. Mr. Burns was a lifelong resident of Fort Spring, attended Fort Spring Missionary Baptist Church, was a World War II veteran and retired from Acme Limestone Co., Fort Spring. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Bostic Burns, in 1984; a son, William Elmer Burns Jr.; a grandson, "Butch" Terry; a great-grandson, Shane Terry; two sisters, Marie Hunt and Eta Terry; and four brothers, Mike, Kelly, Dick and George Burns.   • Edwin G. Hall, 74, of Bradley, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at the Genesis Elder Care following a long illness. Born Jan. 27, 1928, in Oceana, he was the son of the late Barnes E. and Aileen Conley Hall. Mr. Hall was a retired DNR law enforcement officer, a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Bradley Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survivors include his wife, Lois Saunders Hall; two sons, David B.   • WHITESVILLE - Claudia Marie Massey, 83, of the Pettus area of Whitesville, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, in Beverly Health Care Center, Glasgow, following a long illness. Born Jan. 1, 1919, in Stickney, she was the daughter of the late Dudley Hulen and Mintie Pettry Peters. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and was a retired cook for the Raleigh County Board of Education with 20 years of service at Pettus Grade School. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Ed Woods and Wood Massey; a son, Lonnie Woods; two sisters, Elsie May and Sylvia Kelley; and a brother, Willie Peters. Survivors include two sons, the Rev.   • PINEVILLE - Tony May Jr., 47, died Friday, May 10, 2002. Born March 15, 1955, in Mullens, he was the son of Tony May Sr. and Martha Lou Johnson May of Pineville. Mr. May was a member of Rockcastle Baptist Church and the UMWA. He was employed by U.S. Steel, where he was also a member of the fire brigade. He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Ronnie Joe May; an infant sister, Alma Louetta May; and a niece, Sherry Dawn Cook.   • OAK HILL - Virginia Lee Miller, 83, died Friday, May 10, 2002, at Plateau Medical Center, Oak Hill, following a short illness. Born March 17, 1919, in Summerlee, she was the daughter of the late William and Alma Moore Phillips. Mrs. Miller was a retired nurse's aide, having retired from Beckley Hospital, and a member of Living Word Pentecostal Church, Mossy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Hobson Miller; two grandchildren, Deborah Tincher and Charles Bennett; a brother, Aubrey Bailey; and five sisters, Vivian Lively, Zell Garland, Edith Hickey, Ruby Stone and Garnet Gillam.   • Virginia "Fay" Hodge Wygal Riley, 73, of Mabscott, died Friday, May 10, 2002, in a local care facility of natural causes. Born April 19, 1929, in Mabscott, she was the daughter of the late C.W. and Oney R. Carver Hodge. Mrs. Riley was a 1948 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, a member of the Freewill Baptist Church at Judson and had been a resident of Elk Knob near Hinton and Mabscott her entire life. Mrs. Riley was preceded in death by her husband, Harry N. Riley Sr., and was the last surviving member of her eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include two ne-phews, Clayton Smith Jr. of Norfolk, Va., and Wade Smith of Grafton; cousins and caregivers, Nora and Charles Johnson of Daniels; caregiver and friend, Gladys Jones of Beckley; and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.   • Ray Taylor, 77, of Sophia, was called home by the Lord to be with his daughter, Sherry Rae Taylor Trail, on Friday, May 10, 2002, following a long illness. Born June 10, 1924, in Thomases, he was the son of the late Whitley Edgar and Pearl Cline Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA and was retired from Westmoreland Coal Co., Riffe's Branch Division, where he was an electrician. He had also served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Taylor gave his heart to the Lord on Aug. 6, 1986. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Sherry, on May 26, 1975; and two brothers, Robert in 1979 and Lawrence in 2001.   • Fred Taft Walker, 93, of Sophia, passed away Friday, May 10, 2002, at his residence following a long illness. Born June 5, 1908, in Oceana, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson and Nancy Stewart Walker. Mr. Walker was a coal miner, a member of UMWA District 17 and a member of Sophia Freewill Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lela E. Riddle Walker; four sisters, Ophey Smith, Altea Hash, Thelma Hagaman and Nettie Shatland; a stepsister, Rosie Allen; three brothers, Walter, Emory and Ernie Walker; and a great-granddaughter, Bethany Taylor Patton.   • Ray Taylor, 77, of Sophia, was called home by the Lord to be with his daughter, Sherry Rae Taylor Trail, on Friday, May 10, 2002 following a long illness. Born June 10, 1924 at Thomases, he was the son of the late Whitley Edgar and Pearl Cline Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a retired coal miner, a member of the UMWA, and was retired from Westmoreland Coal Company, Riffe's Branch Division, where he was an electrician. He had also served with the US Navy during WWII. Mr. Taylor gave his heart to the Lord on August 6, 1986. He was preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Sherry, on May 26, 1975; and by brothers, Robert in 1979 and Lawrence in 2001.   • RUPERT - Hersie "Si" Fox Jr., 81, died Monday morning, May 13, 2002, at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center, Fairlea, following a short illness. Mr. Fox was a member of the Bascom United Methodist Church, Rupert, a member of the Rainelle Moose Lodge, a member of the National Association of Railroad Veterans, and served as 3rd baseman of the Hundley Reds Baseball Team of Rainelle in the 1940's. "Si" was a retired C&O Railroad Dispatcher and the founder of Fox Insurance Agency of Rupert. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Lee Lyons Fox in 1997. Survivors include two sons, Craig J.   • NEW RICHMOND - Homer Kiser, 83, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, in a Wyoming County care facility. Born June 12, 1918, in Castlewood, Va., he was the son of the late Kemper and Bertha Hall Kiser. Mr. Kiser was a retired coal miner from Consolidated Coal Corporation's Itmann mine with 32 years of service and was a member of the UMWA Local Union 9690. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having served in Company B 31st Tank Division. Mr. Kiser served four years in the Army with two years in combat where he earned the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Ribbon, European Service Ribbon and the African Middle Service Ribbon.   • HINTON - Mary Ann Rutherford Meador, 48, of 507 Miller Ave., died 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2002 in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 19, 1954, at Bluefield, she was the daughter of the late Earl F. and Mary Ruth McHaffa Rutherford. She grew up in Bluefield, Va., and attended Tazewell County Schools. She was a 1972 graduate of Graham High School. She attended Bluefield State College and received an associate of science degree in nursing and worked as a registered nurse. Her primary focus was in Cardiology her entire nursing career of 28 years. She loved caring for her patients. Her most recent job included serving as clinic R.N. at Summers County A.R.H. Rural Health Clinic in Hinton. Mary Ann was also the former owner of Keslers Ladies Apparel in Hinton and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Hinton. She also served as assistant chair for the WVU Parents Club. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Forrest Rutherford Jr. and an aunt, Edna Lucille Brown.   • Glen F. Smith, 82, of 2nd St., MacArthur, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 12, 2002 at his home following a long illness. Born April 27, 1920, at Blue Jay, he was the son of the late Rev. Samuel and Polly Trail Smith. Glen spent his early childhood in Fayette County, where his father pastored the Red Star Baptist Church. At the age of 10, Glen became a Christian and was baptized by the Rev. Dr. Shirley Donnelly at the Oak Hill Baptist Church. His family later moved to Slab Fork. Glen worked for 43 1/2 years in the mines of Slab Fork. He settled in MacArthur in 1944. A member of the Crab Orchard Baptist Church, he was a past Deacon and Sunday School teacher for the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Glen attended Bible teaching class at the First Baptist Church in Beckley under the teaching of Dr. Alvin Cook. He was also a member of Gideon International, Beckley Camp. His community service included membership in the Crab Orchard-MacArthur Lions Club, Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM, past Scout Master for Troop 74 of the Boy Scouts, where he served as a board member for five years and a troop leader for 25 years. An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he rode until the age of 75. He enjoyed woodworking, antiques and horseback riding. Three brothers preceded him in death: Raymond H., Howard H. and Edward D. Smith.   • PINEVILLE - Ronald R. "Ronnie" Ball, 54, of Maple Street, passed away Monday, May 13, 2002, at Charleston Area Medical Center resulting from a fall on April 11, 2002. Born Aug. 14, 1947, in Welch, he was the son of Hope Huffman of Pineville and the late Ted Ball. Ronnie was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and Bluefield State College. Ron also attended and was a member of Pineville Southern Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Ball; maternal grandfather, W.R. Morgan; several aunts and uncles, including Margie Cochran of Bristol, Va., Jean Stone of Tazewell, Va., and Harold Ball of Princeton, who passed away last year; and several other close relatives. Born July 13, 1922, in Bellburn, he was the son of the late Alban and Lona Hizer McClung. Mr. McClung was a World War II Army veteran, having received the Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a self-employed heating and plumbing contractor in Chesapeake, Va.   • KINCAID - Lloyd Aubrey Burnside, 73, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born Feb. 9, 1929, in Kincaid, he was the son of the late Luther Preston and Sarah Alice James Burnside. Mr. Burnside was retired from Norfork Southern Railroad.   • MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. - Donnie Richardson, 54, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after an extended illness. He was born Nov. 5, 1947, at Crab Orchard, where he was lovingly raised and adored by his Granny and Paw, Geter and Octavia (Snead) Richardson. He attended grade schools in Sophia and Crab Orchard and was a 1965 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. Mr. Richardson was employed 21 years at Dixon Automatic Tool in Rockford, Ill., where he was a journeyman machinist. He retired in September 1999 following a disabling injury. He was previously employed by Admiral Harvard, Ill., for 15 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching the vegetable and flower gardens grow. Mr. Richardson was a member of the Rochelle Conservation Club and NRA. He spent endless time with his best four-legged buddy, Draco, and anticipated the birth of his first grandchild due this fall. He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Sue Pittman, on Dec. 18, 1965.   • UNION, S.C. - The Rev. Charlie E. Bells, 84, formerly of Flat Top, husband of Wilma Shrewsberry Bells, died at his home at 8:15 p.m. Monday, May 6, 2002, following a long illness. He was born in Mullens on May 13, 1917, the son of the late Rev. Sammie and Cora Sizemore Bells. Mr. Bells was a retired coal miner and a member of the UMWA. He also worked at Demute Steel in Chicago and at Exxon gas stations in West Virginia. He was of the Free Will Baptist faith and spent 55 years in church work, pastoring several churches in West Virginia. After going to South Carolina, he assisted with several churches in the Union, S.C., area. He was the father of Ann and son-in-law Bud Hornsby of Union, S.C., and Linda and son-in-law David Allen of Flat Top; four grandchildren, Andrea Kirchner and Charles Hornsby, both of South Carolina, Shannon Allen of Beaver and Brad Allen of Shady Spring; six sisters, Nellie Thompson of Mullens, Gracie Bolen and Ellie Blevins, both of Rhodell, Rosie Hatcher of Beckley, Laura Lester of Flat Top and Ruby Gracion of Chi-cago; two brothers, Ray Bells of Beckley and Larence Bells of Ohio; and seven great-grandchildren.   • ALDERSON - Joyce Virginia Bostic, 59, passed away Friday, May 17, 2002, at her home after a short illness. Born April 4, 1943, at Fort Spring, she was the daughter of the late James Owen and Faye Ethel Bostic Arbaugh. Mrs. Bostic had been a resident of Alderson for 33 years, was of the Baptist faith and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John David Bostic Sr.; a brother, Owen J. Arbaugh; and grandparents, Sam and Roxie Bostic and Alexandra "Zeck" and Bertha Arbaugh. Survivors include a daughter, Judy L. Whitt and her husband, James, of Alderson; a son, John David Bostic Jr. and his wife, Teresa, of Muddy Creek Mountain; three sisters, Carol Holt and her husband, David, of Alderson, Janice McCarty and her husband, Lee, of Muddy Creek Mountain and Sharon Weikle and her husband, Gary, of Ronceverte; three brothers, Dale Arbaugh of Ronceverte, John Phillips and his wife, Debra, of Rainelle and Samuel Phillips of Alderson; and four grandchildren, John D. Bostic III, Thomas G. Bostic, Bryana A. Bostic and Jack R. Bostic. Service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Longanacre Funeral Home, Fort Spring, with Mr. Randolph "Joe" Baker officiating.   • COTTAGEVILLE - Woodrow Bernard Lawson, 87, formerly of Piney View, departed this life Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Jackson General Hospital, Ripley, following a brief illness. Born Oct. 6, 1914, in Lanark, he was the son of the late Wil-liam Marcellus and Lucy Ann Redden Lawson. Mr. Lawson was a former coal miner, a retired brick mason, a life member of the Brick Layers and Carpenters Union and attended Millwood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Olabelle Lawson; three brothers, John, Russell and William; and a sister, Ethel. Surviving are a son, Robert Lawson of Powhatan, Va.; a daughter, Lawanna Scotti of Hebron, Conn.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Service will be 10 a.m. Monday at Casto Funeral Home, Evans, with the Rev. Gerald B. Sayre officiating. Graveside service will be 2 p.m. at Hurt Cemetery, Piney View.   • FINDLAY, Ohio - Emma Irene Legg, 81, formerly of Greenbrier County, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, in Findlay. Born Oct. 20, 1920, at Meadow Bluff, she was the daughter of the late Roy H. and Mary Blanche Sharp Miller. Mrs. Legg was the manager of an insurance office. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Albert Heaster. Survivors include her husband, Harold Lee Legg; two daughters, Virginia Petersen of Deshler, Ohio, and Harolyn Legg of Findlay; a son, Wayne Heaster of Findlay; three sisters, Mrs. Roy (Sue) Cruse of Green Valley, Ariz., Mrs. Jesse (Helen) Hutsenpiller of Smoot and Mrs. Gene (Marylou) Hutsenpiller of Hendersonville, Tenn.; a brother, William "Bill" Miller of Meadow Bluff; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.   • PENCE SPRINGS - Helen Virginia Martin, 85, formerly of Sophia, died Friday, May 17, 2002, in a Beckley area hospital following a short illness. Born June 1, 1916, in Hugheston, she was the daughter of the late John E. and Viola Bennett Shrewsbury. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and attended Faith Baptist Church, Pence Springs. She was a former member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority and the Order of Eastern Star. She loved fishing and antiquing. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. "Jack" Martin. Survivors include two sons, Bryan "Ross" Martin of Lewisburg and Jannie Martin of Milford, Del., and Wayne "Dinky" Martin and his wife, Charla, of Sophia; a sister, Genevieve Braun of Louisville, Ky.; a granddaughter, Michelle Parisi of Milford; a great-granddaughter, Monica Biener of Milford; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.   • OAK HILL - Margaret Ann "Peggy" Martin, 72, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 17, 2002, in a Charleston area hospital following a short illness. Born Nov. 20, 1929, in Ashland, McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Otta Walker Hedrick. Mrs. Martin retired from Bank One, formerly Merchant's and Miner's National Bank of Oak Hill. She was a member of Jones Avenue Church of God. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister, and she enjoyed gardening. Survivors include her husband, Robert W. "Horsey" Martin; three children, Kim Lee Martin and his wife, Andrea, of Chicago, Christy Lynn Mills and her husband, Ken, of Charleston and Lisa Jean Martin Easter and her husband, Rob, of Charleston; three brothers, Lacy Hedrick and his wife, Bertha, of Kingsport, Tenn., Philip Hedrick and his wife, Jean, of Maryville, Tenn., and Randall Hedrick and his wife, Pat, of Dixon Springs, Tenn.; three sisters, Janet Thompson of Chicago, Shirley Pate and her husband, Bob, of Shady Spring and Linda Bennett of Cleveland; grandchildren, Joshua Mills and his wife, Stacy, and Jessica, Michael and Emma Martin; and many nieces and nephews.
