THOMAS J. JOHNSON, born 26 April 1895 in Calcutta, Pleasants County, W.Va., was the son of William Johnson and Malinda J. Saulsbury (and other spellings), according to published genealogies that claim they married in Licking County, Ohio in 1884. That record is not found. However, Malinda Jane Saulsbury and Enoch Johnson were married in Pleasants County 17 May 1884. A guess is that William Johnson was named either William Enoch or Enoch William and was called William.

Marriage - Thomas Johnson, 22, was married to Alice Riggs, 22, on December 2 1917 by J. E. Elliott. The bride and groom were both born in Pleasants County, W. Va. and resided there.

Obituary - Mrs. Thomas Johnson received word on Sunday evening of the death of her husband who was in the service of his country in France. He was wounded on Sept. 4th and died on Sept. 8th. (1918) Mr. Johnson left here on March 4th with a contingent who were sent to Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga., and he was almost immediately sent across. Tom was well known and universally liked by all. Only last year he wedded Miss Alice, the accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Riggs, who together with a large number of other relatives feel their loss most keenly. (Source Unknown)

The Ruttencutter Funeral Home Records, Vol. 1, page 97 has the following: Johnson, Ida Alice d/o John. A. Riggs and Laura E. Wilson, married to Charles Johnson, Date of Death: 10/16/28, date of birth: 10/06/95, place of death: Marietta Hospital, Place of Burial: St. Marys Cemetery.
