THE WILL OF EDWARD MORGAN, dated 1799 Submitted by Linda Kent. 52-1 In the name of God amen I Edward Morgan of Ohio County & State of Virginia being of good health at present of sound mind & memory but calling to mind the mortality of this body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do constitute & ordain this my last will and testament as follows "to wit" Imprimis (I will and bequeath in eldest son John Morgan five shilling to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item #1 I will and bequeath & give unto my son Joseph Morgan five shillings to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item It: my will and I give and bequeath unto my Son Mordecai Morgan the place I now live on adjoining lands of John Waddle, William Dunlap and my son John Morgan, together with all the improvement and appurtenances thereunto belonging to the same more or less to him his heirs & assigns forever. Item It is my will and I desire and request my son Mordecai Morgan to maintain and support my wife and his mother Susanna Morgan after my decease in a decent manner during her life time out of the profits arising, from the land I have bequeathed to him in this my last will and testament" Item I will and request sand it is my desire and I give and bequeath unto my grand daughter Hannah Gilleland two cows and a horse, saddle, & bridle, a feather bed, and bed cloathing to be paid out of my estate by my Executors hereinafter named when she arrives at lawful age" Item I give and bequeath unto my daughters Elizabeth Gilleland, Mary Gamble, Rachel Vanmeter & Else Mountz all my personal estate at the time of my decease (excepting what is hereto bequeathed in this my Will) of whatsoever nature it may be to be equally divided between them at my decease by my executors hereafter named to them their heirs and assigns forever. Item I nominate constitute and appoint my son John Morgan and my son in law James Gamble Executors of this my last will and testament hereby disannulling And making Void all wills by me heretofore made and declaring this to be my last will and testament In Witness Whereof I have hereunto affixed my hand and Seal this 17th day of June 1799.
