Held, a well-known manufacturer and dealer in cigars, of Wheeling, was born in that city August 7, 1858. He is the son of Frederick Held, who was born in Germany and emigrated to America when a young man, and soon after coming to this country made his home at Wheeling, where he married Susan Walters who was also a native of Germany. Frederick Held died when his son, the subject of this mention, was only ten weeks old, but the mother is still living. Charles F. was reared at Wheeling, his native city, and educated in the public schools. When between thirteen and fourteen years of age he began to learn the cigar maker's trade, and advanced in his trade until in 1886 he engaged in the manufacture independently. He is now doing a good business at ll29 Market street, and the product of his factory is in popular demand. Mr. Held is a member of the Black Prince lodge, No. 19, K. of P., and of Nelson lodge, No. 30, F. & A. M. (Linda Fluharty)
