EKMJJBJE Sun, 11 Oct 1998 22:04:28
Am looking for any information about the family of Harry Vernon. This man took my grandfather (John Steven Gorman) in and raised him after my grandfather's own father was killed in a train accident. I have the following information from page torn from the Baltimore and Ohio Magazine dated February 1923. Mr. Vernon was a pensioned yardmaster. He lived at East Armstrong Street, Keyser, WVA, and died after an illness of several months. He was 79 years old. He was "a favorite among his fellows and the high esteem in which he was held was shown by the beautiful flowers that covered his casket..." I have been told (but this information may have inaccuracies) that Mr. Vernon's wife's name was Faye. They also raised a girl by the name of Stella (last name unknown). Stella married a Dorsey Kennedy. Am looking for any and all information on this family, as it may lead me to the location of the home/grave of my real great grandfather. Thank you for any and all information/help you can provide.

MORAN, DUGAN
Mary L. Heddles Mon, 22 Jun 1998 22:08:57
I am always looking for ways to get over my "brick wall". I have worked on my Mineral County family for about 18 years and have never been able to establish a birthdate for my great grandparents, EDWARD MORAN and CATHERINE DUGAN. They lived in Piedmont from sometime in the 1850's as far as I know. I found baptismal records for first three children at St. Michael's in Frostburg, MD and eight of the other 9 at St. Peter's in Westernport, MD. (apparently there was no Catholic church on the W.Va. side of the river. I do not know where they were married - some of the family says they married in Ireland, but have also heard a story that he lost a family at the "port of entry" (unknown). In the 1860 Federal census, Edward's age is not readable, and unreadable again in the 1870 Federal census. On his death certificate in 1874 it says he was 60 years old. I have never been able to find any cemetery records for the Catholic cemetery in Westernport where Edward and Catherine are said to be buried. The secretary at St. Peter's could not find any record of the burials. In the 1860 census, there are 4 young children and a girl named, Ann, who is 18 years old. I have never found anything more about Ann. If Edward was born in 1814 (from death cert) is Ann a child who survived at the port of entry, or if he was younger (as the ages of other children would suggest) could she be his sister? I have seen the History of Mineral County and it mentions the family but no real answers to my questions. I do know that the MORAN brothers who currently live in Westernport are decendants of this family, but I have never (in all the years of trying) been able to get any answers from any of them (only a few verbal promises made about 16 years ago). I know I have rambled on, but if you have ANY suggestions on where to find any answers, I am listening. Thank you for any help you can offer.

JANKEY

John William Jankey, my Great-Great Grandfather, was a West Virginia Central railroad engineer who was killed in a train wreck in Blackwater Canyon on December 2, 1902. I found a record of his family in the Mineral County enumeration of the census of 1900. In the census, he is listed as living in "Savage Township." I think this is near the town of West Virginia Junction, but I have not been able to find it on any maps. Any suggestions on how I can find this location? After his death, he was buried in Elkins. Where should I look to find his death certificate? Would this death certificate indicate the names of his parents and his place of birth? If you have any ideas, please e-mail me. Thanks.
