This next one is not exactly a "West Virginia site" per se. This link is to Alex Schust's book, "Billion Dollar Coalfield," which is a really interesting and useful book about McDowell County coal mine history.
If you see a book you would like to read, but not necessarily buy, contact your local library. Even if they don't have a copy, they can use their interlibrary loan program to borrow a copy for you. It might take a month or two, but it's a great way to preview books.
