PLINY - Marjorie Katherine Adams, 96, of Pliny, West Virginia, died at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, October 14, 2003, in Green Hill Manor at Fowler, Indiana.
She was born May 13, 1907, in Pliny, where she was a lifelong resident until October 1993.
She married Clyde Adams in November 1932 at Pliny. He died September 26, 1993.
She was a member of the Solom Baptist Church. She taught school and was a homemaker before moving to Oxford, Indiana, to love (sic) with her son, Curtis, where she enjoyed being a loving grandmother, riding four-wheelers, ponies and camping.
She belonged to the Templeton Community Church.
Surviving are two sons, Curtis Adams (wife Sherry) of Oxford, Indiana, and Chester Adams (wife Janette) of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and one daughter, Genevieve Smalley of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and one sister Hazel Erikson of Charleston, West Virginia; and five grandsons, six granddaughters and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Susie Adams; three brothers, Von, Odell and Cline, and her parents, Robert Owens and Lenah Zamora Meeks Wallace.
Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Saturday, October 18, 2003, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with the Rev Fred McCallister officiating. Burial will follow in the Suncrest Cemetery at Point Pleasant. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, October 17, 2003, from 7 pm until 9 pm.

LETART - Nellie Mabel Sayre Adkins, 95, of Letart, West Virginia, died Thursday, July 17, 2003, at her residence.
She was born January 13, 1908, in Mason County, West Virginia, daughter of the late Ezekiel and Susan Barr Sayre.
She was a homemaker, and was a member of the Oak Grove Church in Letart.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Arnold "Cap" Adkins; and by several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, and their families.
Services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with the Rev. Jack Mayes officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Letart. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2003.

ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Tony Lee Adkins of St Augustine, Florida, formerly of Leon, West Virginia, died March 27, 2003, in St Augustine, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was 22 years of age.
Born May 8, 1980, Tony was the son of Benny Adkins and Marsha Jividen Adkins, both of St Augustine.
He was a 1998 graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Terry Adkins of Florida.
Cremation was under the direction of the Walter-Doorman Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Florida.
A graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2003, at the Tucker Cemetery, Leon, with Pastor Randy Parsons officiating. Burial will follow the service.

GLENWOOD, W.Va. - Mildred Francis Allen, 74, of Glenwood, West Virginia, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in the Pleasant Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Born January 4, 1929, in Huntington, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late George and Gay Booth Cobb. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis Allen; one brother, Martin Cobb; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mildred is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Donna Allen of Wayne County, Rodney and Lisa Allen, and Randall Wayne and Tammy Allen, all of Glenwood; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Brenda Allen of Apple Grove, West Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2003, at the Fairfield United Methodist Church, Glenwood. Burial will follow in Fairfield Cemetery. Friends may call on the family after 1 p.m. Sunday at the church.

MIDDLEPORT, Ohio - William Louis Ault, 72, of Middleport, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
He was born September 9, 1926, in Greenup, Kentucky, son of the late Fredrick Merle Ault and Goldie May Thompson Ault.
Since 1946, he worked on the river and started in business with his Father in the Greenup Transport and Ferry Business. He was also employed by the Ohio River Company and retired as a Master Pilot.
He assisted management in training new personnel as deck hands and he trained new pilots. He was formerly employed by the Sohio Petroleum Company as a tankerman. He was also employed by the United Steel Workers and served as secretary/treasurer.
He was a member of the Middle port Masonic Lodge No. 363. He was a member of the Heath United Methodist Church of Middleport.
He is survived by his children, Gerald L and Cheryl Ault of Springfield, Ohio, Dennis J and Charlotte Ault of Lakeview, Ohio, William "Perk" and Vicki Ault of Syracuse, Ohio, Celesta Bush Coates of Middleport, Patricia Kay and Ron Logan of Middleport, and Merri C and James Amsbary of Pomeroy, Ohio; grandchildren, Todd Ault, Toby Ault, Ty Ault, West Ault, Greg Bush, Nick Bush, Jason Bush, Darin Logan, Kevin Logan, Ken Amsbary and Christian Amsbary, and Victoria Goebel; stepgrandchildren, Troy Speakman, Shannon Korn and Brooke Ely; great-grandchildren, Heather, Lauren, Ashley and Alyissa Ault, Andrew and Timothy Bush, and Bradley and Connor Logan; and five step-great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by a brother, George Milton Ault of Springfield; a sistesr-in-law and brother-in-law, Agnes and Gene Dodson of Middleport; and a brother-in-law, Charles Sindle of Glendale, Arizonia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena Lawhorn Ault, in 1989; a grandson, Matthew Ault; a sister, Loretta Lawhorn; and a son-in-law, Don Coates.
Services will be 11 am Thursday, October 30, 2003, at the Fisher Funeral Home in Middleport. Officiating will be Pastor Ron Brower and burial will be in the Meigs Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 pm Wednesday, October 29, 2003.

GALLIPOLIS, Ohio - Robert Scot "Bobby" Austin, 31, of Gallipolis, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2003.
Bobby was born June 17, 1972, in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
He was a 1991 graduate of Point Pleasant High School and attended the Buckeye Hills Learning Center in Rio Grande, Ohio. He was an employee of Wal-Mart in Gallipolis.
He was a loving son, brother, wonderful uncle, a true friend, and one of a kind. He will be greatly missed.
Robert is survived by his mother and stepfather, Larry and Linda Williams Carson of Vinton, Ohio; his father, Wayne Austin of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey W Austin of Charleston, West Virginia, Alex M Austin and Sheila of Ashton, West Virginia, and James J Austin and Rachel of Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
He is also survived by nieces and nephews, Kasi, Corey, Jessi, Tristan, Ashley and Andrew; and companion, Jeannie Cade.
Services will be 2 pm Sunday, December 7, 2003, in the Wilcoxen Funeral Home at Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with Minister Paul Casebolt officiating. Burial will follow in the Austin-Hope-McCleod Cemetery at Redmond Ridge, West Virginia.

GRIMMS LANDING - Stanley S "Budge" Bailes, born October 24, 1917, departed this life Friday, December 19, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center, following a short illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Maggie Tucker Bailes.
He was a retired engineer for AVTEX fibers at Nitro, West Virginia, with 34 years of service. He was a member of the Oma Chapel Church, and loved singing gospel music, having been one of the original members of the Travelers Trio.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Alma Bailes; a sister, Dora Warner of Teays Valley, West Virginia, formerly of Buffalo, West Virginia; three nephews, Wilkie and Johnnie Tucker of Grimms Landing, West Virginia, and Frank Tucker of Buffalo; and a niece, Betty Sullivan of Columbus, Ohio.
He had many loved ones, friends and neighbors, and will be sadly missed by all.
Services will be 2 pm Tuesday, December 23, 2003, in Oma Chapel Church at Grimms Landing, with Pastor Randy Parsons and Pastor Carl "Mick" Bailes officiating. Burial will be in the Bailes section of the Tucker Cemetery at Grimms Landing. Doris (Touvell) Bailey, 81, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, died Sunday, October 19, 2003, at St Mary's Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia.
She was born September 3, 1922, in Lore City, Ohio, to the late Charles and Lucile Elizabeth (Treherne) Toubell. She was a homemaker and a member of the Heights United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant where she was active in the United Methodist Women, Christian Friendship Class and the Jolly Dozen Club. She was a past member of the Pleasant Valley Hospital Auxiliary and the Point Pleasant Women's Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Thomas C Bailey; two sisters, Vera Mercer and Agnes Long; and one brother, Raymond Touvell.
Doris is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bob Edgar of Point Pleasant and Rhonda and Randy Nicewonder of Peterstown, West Virginia; grandchildren Rob and Tina Edgar, Tommy and Karen Edgar, and Tammy and Kirby Hill; seven great-grandchildren, Hannah Edgar, Seth Edgar, Will Edgar, Josh Helms, Monica Helms, Logan Hill and Alexander Hill; and several nieces and nephews.

Charles F "Buddy" Bates, 66, of Henderson, West Virginia, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died unexpectedly at his home Sunday, November 2, 2003, at approximately 5:20 am. He was born May 24, 1937, son of the late Elsie Parsons of Ripley, West Virginia.
He retired from North Star Coal Company, Pittsburgh, in 1993, and was a member of Union Local #66 Ironworkers, Pittsburgh. He was also a member of the Elks and Moose lodges in Pittsburgh.
He is survived by his wife of almost 40 years, Jean Ann "Jenny" Siders Bates; two sons, Danny Bates and Michael Bates; two stepsons, Charlie Stewart and Robert L (Angie) Stewart; one granddaughter who lived in the home, Eden Bates; three other grandchildren, Amber Stewart, C R Stewart and Michael Stewart, all from the area of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Also surviving are sister, Tiny (Walter) Bosley of Ravenswood, West Virginia; two brothers, Cecil (Pat) Snyder and Ray (Betty) Snyder, all of Ravenswood; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1 pm Wednesday, November 5, 2003, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Pastor Bill Banks officiating.

Lucille was born December 2, 1932, at Montcoal, West Virginia, daughter of the late John and Bertha Wolford Halstead.
She graduated from Point Pleasant High School, and worked for C&P Telephone and Peoples Bank.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline Bocock and Florence Taylor; and four brothers, James, Eugene, Herman and Millard Halstead.
She is survived by her husband, Christopher H "Chris" Bauer; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Helen Halstead of New Haven, West Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

GALLIPOLIS - Steven W Bays, 28, of Gallipolis, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2003, in a drowning accident on the Ohio River near Letart, W.Va.
Born October 16, 1974 in Mason County, West Virginia he was the son of Ester Lee Parsons Bays of Gallipolis and the late Charles William Bays. He was employed at L & L Scrap Metals in Gallipolis.
In addition to his mother he is survived by a daughter, Stormy Renae Bays, two sons, Steven Charles Bays and Shane Douglas Bays, and their mother, Loretta Wagoner, all of Gallipolis.
Also surviving are two brothers, Billy Bays and John Bays, both of Gallipolis, a half-brother, Daniel Bays of Gallipolis and a half-sister, Helen Watson of Gallipolis. Several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles William Bays and a half-sister, Christi Halley.
Funeral services will be 1 pm, Sunday, July 13, 2003, in the Cremeens Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev Jack Holley. Interment will be in the Centenary Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 pm Saturday at the funeral chapel.

She was a homemaker, and had worked at Farmers Hardware in Point Pleasant.
She was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, where she had been a Sunday school teacher and secretary.
Born January 31, 1918, in Roane County, West Virginia, Marjorie was a daughter of Elum and Delphia Carpenter Ward.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles L. Bechtle; a brother, Charles Brookes Ward; a sister, Virginia Hill; and two half-brothers, Ulrich Wilson and Bernard Wilson.

GALLIPOLIS FERRY - William "Bill" F Beckner, 72, of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, died Monday, July 7, 2003, in Holzer Medical Center at Gallipolis, Ohio.
He was born January 29, 1931, in Pikevile, Kentucky, son of the late James Cochran Beckner and Mildred J Jordan Beckner.
He retired as an electrical draftsman with Service Machine at Lesage, West Virginia. He was a member of the Boyd Memorial Baptist Church in Charleston, West Virginia. He attended West Virginia University and military school.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Beckner.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Henry Beckner o Gallipolis Ferry; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Becky Beckner of Gallipolis; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Brian Rucker of Addison, Ohio; two grandsons, Justin and Seth Beckner of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and a granddaughter, Jessica Tucker of Addison.

APPLE GROVE - Juanita Ruth Jarrell-Beller, 78, of Apple Grove, West Virginia, departed this life Wednesday, June 25, 2003, in Thomas Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born September 28, 1924, in Colcord, West Virginia, to William Jennings Jarrell and Bessie Pettry Jarrell.
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves behind husband Paul, daughter Sandra James and husband Bob of Dunbar, West Virginia, daughter Bonnie Casey and husband Bo of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, and son Paul Jr. (Jim) of Hammond, Indiana.
She also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Bill Lloyd and wife Missy, Buddy Casey, Jodi James-Smith and husband Scott, Paul Beller III, and Ross Edward Beller.
Great-grandchildren include BJ Lloyd, James Smith, Nathan Beller Jr., and Noah Beller. Mrs. Beller also leaves behind sister Erma Pauley of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.

MESA, Ariz. -- Paul Ray Bennett passed away February 15, 2003 in Mesa, Arizona at the age of 67. He was born September 17, 1935 in Point Pleasant, to Frank Richard, Jr. and Myrtle Simpkins Bennett. He will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather and to friends as "Uncle Paul."
Paul was preceded in death by his father and an infant brother, James Franklin.
He is survived by his son Frank Joseph (Krissine) and daughter Rhonda Rae (John) Fournier, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of Arizona; his mother, Myrtle Bennett of Point Pleasant; sisters Lois (Dayton) Shinn of Leon, Jean Swanson of Fraziers Bottom; and brother, John (Jane) Bennett of Point Pleasant.
He also leaves behind three aunts, Mabel Bennett Riffle and Helen Bennett Edwards and Ruby (Leslie) Bennett, an uncle Paul H. Bennett and wife, Jane, all of Point Pleasant; and nieces, nephews, a host of cousins and many friends in the Mason County area.
Paul touched many lives and was born to ride free. All will miss him.

He was born December 3, 1932, in East Lynn, West Virginia.

He was a retired coal miner.

Services were conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2003, in the Morris Funeral Home in Wayne, West Virginia, with Isaiah Crump Jr. and Bert Flora officiating. Burial was in the Mills-Vaughn Cemetery at Wayne. Visitation was held in the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 25, 2003.

GALLIPOLIS FERRY - The Rev Canon James Gilbert Bingham, age 62, rector of the Epiphany Episcopal Church in Cape Coral, Florida, died suddenly Sunday, June 8, 2003.
He was born December 12, 1941, in Jenkins, Kentucky, the son of Harold F Ross of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia and the late Elva Juanita Farinash Ross.
James' early education was obtained at Augusta Military Academy, and middle grade schools in Florida, Virginia, Connecticut and West Virginia.
He graduated from Point Pleasant High School in 1958. He then attended Virginia Military Institute and West Virginia University, where he earned his BS degree. After graduation, he received a position at the Stanton Military Academy as an instructor, and coach of the swimming team.
He then attended Andover Theological Seminary in Boston, Massachusetts, general seminary in New York and seminary at the University of the South, where he received a BS and MS in divinity and theology, and then began serving the Lord and His people as a parish priest.
Then he served several state bishops as assistant before joining the staff of the presiding bishop of the USA.
One of the highlights of his career was his giving the opening prayer to a session of Congress in the 1960s under House Speaker Carl Albert.
He served in the business world as senior vice president of the Naples Community Hospital, and then as president and chief executive officer of the United Methodist Foundation of Northern California.
His service was widespread, serving parishes in Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, California, Kansas and Florida.
His mother preceded him in death.
He is survived by his stepfather, Harold Ross; his aunt, Elizabeth Farinash Lorraine of Fort Myers, Florida; and many cousins.
A graveside service was conducted at the McCutcheon Chapel Cemetery in Ireland, West Virginia, at 11 am Thursday, June 19, 2003, with the Rev Frederick Valentine presiding.
Arrangements were by the Greathouse Funeral Home in Salem, West Virginia.

GALLIPOLIS FERRY - William F "Bill" Birchfield, 71, of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 29, 2003.
He was born November 29, 1931, the son of the late Harrison Birchfield and Nora Wears Birchfield.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Eva Byus, Mary Lewis and Melva Neal; and a brother, Cecil "Bud" Birchfield.
Bill was a member of the Gospel Lighthouse Church of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and a retired supervisor from the OKAN Machine Repairs Inc.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Inez B Hoffman Birchfield of Gallipolis Ferry; a daughter, Tammy Birchfield of Gallipolis Ferry; and sons and daughters-in-law, John and Shirley Birchfield, Tom and Karen Birchfield, and Randy and Paula Birchfield, all of Gallipolis Ferry.
He is also survived by a sister, Effie Roach of Henderson, West Virginia; two granddaughters, Sahana and Devin Birchfield; a step-grandson, Brandon Roush; a special great-great-nephew, Levi Meeks; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 am Thursday, October 2, 2003, at the Gospel Lighthouse Church, with the Rev Bill Banks and the Rev. Lloyd Mayes Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Cemetery at Henderson.

MASON - Helen Louise Bletner, 97, of Mason, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at her caregiver's residence in Buffalo, West Virginia.
She was a school teacher at Mason Elementary for 47 years and was known to all her students as "Miss Helen."
Helen was born August 13, 1905 at Circleville, Ohio; a daughter of the late Herman R and Caroline M Koschensparger Bletner.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in by four brothers, John E. Bletner, Clarence S. Bletner, William M Bletner; and one sister, Ruth P. Bletner.

POINT PLEASANT - Joan Louise Wilson Bogdanski, 83, of St. Petersburg, Florida, formerly of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, passed away Tuesday, June 24, 2003, in Florida.
She was the daughter of the late John and Bertha Adams Wilson of Mason, West Virginia.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Marcelline Bradshaw.
She is survived by her husband, Kim Bogdanski; a cousin and his wife, John and Geraldine Adams of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, and their family, Marie Marston, Johnny, Jonathan, Lindsey and Cheyenne Adams.
She also leaves a lot of friends of Mason County.
She was born January 10, 1920, in Mason. She graduated from Wahama High School in 1938, and from the Beauty School of Culture in 1940. She was the owner and operator of the LaMarce Beauty Shoppe in the Lowe Hotel Building in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, for many years and was the representative for Merle Norman Cosmetics.
She and her husband lived in Canada for many years where she had several Merle Norman cosmetic studios. After retiring, they moved to Florida, where they have resided since 1979.
Joan was a skilled bowler, and loved to roller and ice skate. She will be sadly missed by her family and all of her friends.
Services will be announced and held at a later date by the Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.

Born October 29, 1922, in Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, Curly was the son of the late Phillip H "Dan" and Lucy Martin Bonecutter.

Woman's death 'suspicious,' Mason County sheriff says
POI NT PLEASANT, W.Va. - The death of a Point Pleasant woman is being treated as suspicious by the mason County Sheriff's Department until results of a state medical examiner's autopsy are obtained, Sheriff Scott Simms said.
Donna Bonecutter, 52, was found on the porch of the second mobile home where she resided behind Fox's Pizza Den on Sandhill Road sometime after 3 a.m. Wednesday. Simms said the sheriff's department was notified at 3:26 a.m.
The body was sent to the state medical examiner's office in Charleston and Simms said he may not obtain results on the cause of death until later this week.
"This is a suspicious death which is under investigation and will be considered a homicide until out investigation proves otherwise," Simmms said. "We are working with the medical examiner on that."
The sheriff uld (sic) not speculate on the cause of death, "other than no firearms are involved."
There are also no suspects in the matter until the cause of death is known, or if he (sic) autopsy results rule out homicide. Simms said. He added that the length of time it take to obtain the medical examiner's results depends on the caseload. Simms said he may know something by the middle of this week, but more likely toward the end of the week.
"Everybody seems to be backed up," Simms said.

POINT PLEASANT - An investigation into the cause of death earlier this month for a Point Pleasant woman is continuing and may be resolved within a month, Mason County Sheriff Scott Simms said.
The sheriff's department is awaiting final approval from the state medical examiner on autopsy findings for Donna Bonecutter, 51, who was found on the front porch of the mobile home where she resided.
A backlog of cases at the medical examiner's office in Charleston has delayed the full release of findings, which will provide the sheriff with a direction for the probe.
Chief Deputy C E Stearns has been following up on the case with the medical examiner, Simms said.
In the meantime, investigators have utilized chemical testing and advanced test techniques to provide them with some answers, the sheriff said. Some of the testing is being done in the laboratory at the FBI's training academy in Quantico, Va. He declined to provide further specifics.
"We're using all of the resources that are available," Simms said. "We don't have a problem asking the feds for help."
The victim was discovered at her home off Sandhill Road near Point Pleasant shortly after 3 a.m. on July 2. The sheriff's department responded to the scene following a call to Mason County 9-1-1.
At the time, Simms said the case was "suspicious" and would be handled as a homicide until further evidence proved otherwise.
Simms said Monday he looks for a resolution within the next few weeks.
"I hope to bring this to a conclusion in 30 days," he said.

RACINE, Ohio - Captain Edison C Brace, 83, of Racine, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, June 22, 2003, in the Rocksprings Nursing Center in Pomeroy, Ohio.
He was born January 20, 1920 in St Albans, West Virginia, son of the late Frederick and Ada Wright Brace.
He retired in 1983 as a boat captain for the Dravo Corporation. He was a US Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mabel L Jaynes Brace, whom he married June 1, 1943, in Pomeroy; two daughters, Kathryn Hart and her husband Dale, of Racine, and Joyce Sisson, and her husband, Ernie, of Syracuse, Ohio; and a son, James Brace and his wife, Judy of Crown City, Ohio.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Legina Hart, Michael (Kathy) Brace, Teressa (James) Shelton, Dionne (Shane) Byer, Jimmy (Traci) Vrace, Sherri Sisson, Sammi (Travis) Mugrage and Pete (Suz) Sisson; and six great-grandchildren.
Numerous nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frederick Brace and George Brace.

BRADENTON, Fla. - Robert C Markham Brown, 66, Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Bidwell, died Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at his residence.
Born May 20, 1936, in Pliney (sic), W. Va., he was a former boilermaker for Boilermaker Union Local #667 in Winfield, W. Va. and retired as a superintendent for many power plants.
He was a devout Christian who served in the US Air Force during peacetime. He was also a member of the 32nd Degree Mason, Wetzel Masonic Lodge in New Martinsville, W. Va.

GLENWOOD - Mrs. Mary Virginia Booth Brumfield, 83, of Glenwood, loving wife and mother, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at her daughter's residence.
Mary was born March 17, 1920, in Cabell County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Earl and Maggie Turley Booth. She attended Faith Gospel Mission.
Mary was also preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Brumfield Sr.; four brothers, Earl William, Paul, Richard, and Vernon Booth; one sister, Bertha Holley; and an infant son, Earl "Little Frankie" Franklin Brumfield.
Survivors include four daughters, Lilly Ward and her husband, Buddy, of Milton, West Virginia, Shirley Jenkins of Glenwood, Gosella Brumfield, and Sarah Earls and her husband Mike, all of Lesage; two sons, John Henry Brumfield Jr. of Point Pleasant, and Robert Daniel "Bobby" Brumfield of Glenwood; one sister, Betty Holley of Kenova; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

LEON - Charles Wayne Robert Buck, 18, of Leon, West Virginia, passed away Wednesday, June 25, 2003, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, West Virginia, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was a student at Point Pleasant High School, a junior firefighter with the Leon Volunteer Fire Department, and was an avid sports fan who loved baseball, football, basketball and all forms of NASCAR racing.
Survivors include his mother, Rhonda Sue Buck of Buffalo, West Virginia; his father, Paul Wayne Buck of Leon; paternal grandparents, Paul and Eva Buck of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; maternal grandparents, Richard and Donna "Sue" Nease of Buffalo; his maternal grandfather, William Buck of Buffalo; and his paternal great-grandmother, Lottie Belle Craig of Robertsburg, West Virginia.
He is also survived by brothers, Tony Buck of Robertsburg, and Richard Buck of Buffalo; sisters, Lashanna Buck of Buffalo, and Courtney Buck of Buffalo; a special niece McKenzie Buck of Buffalo; and several loving aunts and uncles.

Collision kills Leon man
MOUNT ALTO - A two-vehicle collision Wednesday near the Jackson/Mason county line resulted in the death of a Leon man.
West Virginia State Police said Charles Wayne Robert Buck, 18, was killed when a 1985 Dodge pulled off W.Va. Route 331 onto W.Va. Route 2 at 6:30 p.m. near the Mount Alto Exxon into the path of a 2002 Camaro in which Buck was a passenger.
The collision tore the passenger door off the Camaro, ejecting Buck and sending the Camero through the guardrail, over a hill and into tall weeds.
Buck was transported via ambulance to the Jackson General Hospital emergency room in Ripley, were (sic) he was pronounced (sic) dead on arrival at 7:25 p.m.
Other passengers in the Camaro, who were not immediately identified, were treated for injuries sustained from the accident.
The victim was released to Raynes Funeral Home in Buffalo. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oma Chapel. A complete obituary appears in today's Register.
Cpl. J. A. Boles of the Ripley detachment of the West Virginia State Police said charges are still pending in the matter.

LEON - Ronald G. Buck, 58, of Leon, West Virginia, passed away Monday, May 5, 2003, in the Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, following an extended illness. Ronald retired from Georgia Electric as an electrician. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War.

APPLE GROVE - Beulah Pearl Buckle, 85, of Apple Grove, West Virginia, passed away Monday, September 15, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center.
She was born February 21, 1918, in Pliny, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Herbert and Allie Dee Bays Sission, who preceded her in death.
She was a seamstress, homemaker, and a member of the Mount Union United Methodist Church at Pliny.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Buckle, on May 6, 1999; two brothers, Everett Sisson and John Lambert; and three sisters, Jancie Waugh, Effie Dunn and Edna Kemplin.

Josephine "Jo" Elaine Burris, 81, of Grove City, Ohio, formerly of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, December 24, 2003, in Grove City. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Point Pleasant and attended Grove City Church of the Nazarene in Grove City.
Born December 6, 1922, in Henderson, West Virginia, she was the youngest of 14 children of the late Charles C and Lottie L (Stone) Mayes.
In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by her husband, Odis G Burris, whom she married on May 8, 1940; 12 brothers and sisters, the Rev. Roy Mayes, Arthur Mayes, Lillian Long, Harold Mayes, Bess Clonch, Geoge A Mayes, Carl Mayes, Mary Cook, Nellie Terry, Thersa Birchfield, Marvin Mayes and Robert D Mayes.

POINT PLEASANT - Mary Louise "Sis" Longstaff Burton, 90, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, died Wednesday afternoon, October 15, 2003, at the Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born March 27, 1913, in Arbuckle, West Virginia, daughter of the late William Sherman and Almena McCoy Beaver.
She was a homemaker, and had formerly worked at Duke Cleaners.

POINT PLEASANT - Charles R Butler Sr., 75, of Point Pleasant and formerly of Malden, West Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant follow a long illness.
Charles was born January 15, 1928, in Malden to the late Rene and Marie McCoy Butler. He was retired from the Carpenter Union Local 1159 of Point Pleasant and he was an Army National Guard veteran.
He is survived by a son, Charles R Butler Jr. of Point Pleasant; a sister, Barbara Copenhaver of Malden; and a brother, Ernest A Butler of Charleston.
Services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2003, at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Cross Lanes. Burial will follow in the Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call on hour prior to the service at the Mausoleum Chapel on Saturday.

Born October 13, 1924, in Mason County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Oscar Buck and Dessie McCall Buck.
Call married Hobart T Call on October 22, 1945 in Greenup, Ky., and he survives with a son and a daughter, Eugene (Valnora) Call, and Janet (Richard) Kingery, both of Bidwell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Garland Buckley; her husband, Denver Combs; a sister, Hilda Lemley; and by two grandchildren.
She was employed by and was a member of the Gallia County Senior Citizens.

LETART - Ralph F Cook, Sr., 78, of Letart, West Virginia, formerly of Reily Township, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at Mercy Hospital of Fairfield, Ohio.
He was born February 23, 1925, in Columbus, Ohio, son of Cloyd and Marie Rodman Cook.
He attended Columbus City Schools and served in the U S Army Air Corps during World War II.
On June 25, 1949, in Greenup, Kentucky, he married Crystal Baker.
He was employed as an electrical engineer at WLW in Cincinnati, Ohio, for 30 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the IBEW Union.
He loved playing music on his violin or any stringed instrument, and was featured on the "Mid Western Hayride Show," playing with Charlie Gore and the Rangers.
He was currently playing in a band in his hometown of Letart, West Virginia.
He is survived by his wife, Crystal Cooke of Letart; and eight children, Sandy Colwell of Oxford, Ohio, Ralph F Cooke, Jr and his wife, Michelle, of Liberty Township, Ohio, Rita Garrison of Hanover Township, Ohio, Nina Rose and her husband, Brian, of Fairfield, Ohio, June Grubb and her husband, Gary of Reily Township, Glen Cooke and his wife, Lisa, of Reily Township, Loretta Cooke of Hamilton, Ohio, and Brian Cooke and his wife, Cindy, of Reilly Township.
He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Debbie Cooke of Louisiana; his mother Marie Cook of Columbus; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; five sisters; and many other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cloyd Cook; a son, Wayne Cooke; and a brother.

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. - Mary M. Cotton, 82, of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday, January 8, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio.
She was born October 15, 1920, in Jackson County, West Virginia, a daughter of the late John G and Mary M Stackpole Fox.
She was a retired nurse from Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis and a member of the Royal Order of the Eastern Star of Gallipolis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Cotton; her sisters Madge Jones, Mildred Hamilton and Helen Lee; and brothers, Harold, John and Darrell Fox.
She is survived by her son, Gary Cotton of Point Pleasant; her daughter, Lynette Ratliff of Ashland, Kentucky; and grandchildren, Neal Cotton of Gallipolis, Myra Cotton of Point Pleasant, and Mike Ratliff of Ashland.

She was born November 4, 1946, at McDermitt, Ohio, daughter of the late Walter E Shaffer and Rith Gillette Shaffer.
She was a beautician. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star No. 75 of Point Pleasant, and the Point Pleasant Women of the Moose. She was a 1964 graduate of Point Pleasant High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Jack Landers; her second husband, Irvin Cox; and a brother, Donal Lee Shaffer.

VINTON, Ohio - Worthy Cremeans, 86, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2003, in the Jenkins Memorial Health Facility at Wellston.
He retired from Carter Implement Company in Gallipolis in 1978, following 27 years of service. He attended the Ewington Church of Christ in Christian Union, and the Vinton Baptist Church.
Worthy was born November 30, 1916, in Cabell County, West Virginia, son of the late Henderson and Etta Villars Cremeans.
He married Opal Scarberry on April 2, 1935, at Glenwood, West Virginia, and she preceded him in death on November 22, 1990.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gladys and Timothy McClelland of Vinton; a granddaughter and her husband, Marsha and Gary Hanes of Vinton; two great-granddaughters, Jill Butcher of Columbus, and Cara Butcher of Vinton; a sister-in-law, Beulah Cremeans of Gallipolis; and a special friend, Beatrice Cremeens of Vinton.
In addition to his wife, Opal, he was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Cremeans; two sisters, Charlotte and Louiza; and a special nephew, Richie Roy Cremeans.

LEON -- Doris Fadris Hart Crump, 79, of Leon, West Virginia, departed this life surrounded by family and friends on Wednesday morning, July 30, 2003.
She leaves this life to join her deceased husband Lorain "Chick," in their Heavenly home.
She was born April 15, 1924, in Leon, daughter of the late Floyd W and Ida Mae Donohue Hart.
She was a Christian and a member of the Brighton Church in Ambrosia, West Virginia. She devoted her entire life to the care of her children and family. She was a homemaker who loved to garden and can, and raised all varieties of flowers.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Jeff A Crump; brothers, Wally and Jack Dempsey Hart; and sisters, Famous Hart, Olive Pierson and Geraldine Blessing.
She is survived by a daughter, Cindy Crump (Phillip Dunfee) of Leon, who were her primary caregivers; two other daughters, Tammy Lynn (Jerry) Fillinger, along with their children, Amber and Jerry Allen and Shirley Ann (Randall) Woodall, all of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; and two sons, the Rev. Verlin "Sampy" (Dottie) Hart and Lorain Jr., all of Leon.
Other survivors include three sisters, Lillian (John) Pierson and Catherine (Gerrell) Deweese, both of Leon, and Lissie M. (Johnny) Beagle of Point Pleasant; a brother Allen (Merlie) Hart of Leon; a sister-in-law, Vada Crump of Point Pleasant, and a brother-in-law, Hobart "Monk" Crump; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed by her dog, "Missy," along with a host of friends.
She touched the lives of all who knew her, and she never knew a stranger.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, August 1, 2003, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with the Rev. Homer Stephens and the Rev. Herman H Jordan officiating. WINTER GARDEN, Fla. - Ralph Frost Crump, 83, went to be with his Lord on January 25, 2003. A lifelong volunteer, Mr. Crump was actively involved in the community in every town in which he resided.
Born in Frostburg, Maryland, on March 27, 1919, to the late James and Jennie Crump, he graduated from the University of Maryland in 1941, with a degree in engineering. Ralph served on active duty with the United States Army Corps of Engineers from 1941 to 1946 and retired as a major in 1952. He helped build what is now called Camp David before serving in the India Burma Theater of Operations.
Ralph married Gwendolyn Saunders on December 26, 1942. They settled in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where he worked for Vanadium Corporation, rising to plant engineer. While in Point Pleasant, he was on the building committee and board of trustees for the Pleasant Valley Hospital, and served as lay leader and president of the United Methodist Men at the Trinity United Methodist Church.
From Point Pleasant, Ralph and Gwen moved to Cross Lanes, West Virginia, where Ralph worked for the West Virginia Department of Highways inspecting bridges and tunnels. He became a member of the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church.
Upon retirement, they moved to Palm Bay, Florida, where he volunteered preparing individuals' income tax returns and helped people with Medicare forms through Mercy Watch and CAPS. Ralph was a member of the Palm Bay United Methodist Church.
Ralph was initiated in the brother of Masons in March 1948, at the Princeton, West Virginia, Lodge #134, and was a Past Master of Minturn Lodge #19 in Point Pleasant. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Bluefield, West Virginia, and a member of the Legions of Honor in the Azan Shrine. Ralph helped transport burn victims to the Shriners Hospital. He also helped with the circus and carried the flag in many parades. Ralph was a lifelong blood donor.
Surviving are his wife, Gwen; daughters Jane Holstein of Palm Bay, Martha Hazelrigg of Orland, Florida; son Russell Crump of Princeton; grandchildren Mitchell Holstein of Stephenville, Texas, Jessica and Andrew Hazelrigg of Orlando, and Justin Crump of Princeton; and great-grandchildren Mile, Mason and Merit Holstein.
Funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2003, at the Collison Carey Hand Funeral Home in Winter Garden, Florida. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children, 2900 Rocky Point Dr, Tampa, FL 33607, or to the Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant.

POINT PLEASANT -Robert Carl Doeffinger Sr., 81, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, died Wednesday morning, September 24, 2003, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis, Ohio, following a short illness.
He was born January 24, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late Carl H and Esther Bailey Baker Doeffinger.
He attended Carnegie Mellon University before entering the Navy, and later graduated from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, majoring in business, in June 1949.
He was a Shriner. He was also a United States Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion Mason County Post No. 23. He was employed as a manager by the GC Murphy Company until his retirement in 1987.
Bob was an acid outdoorsman, and enjoyed bow hunting and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M Browne Doeffinger, in 1991.
He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Robert C Jr. and Lesa Doefinger, Paul J and Kathy Doeffinger, and James and Lori Doeffinger, all of Point Pleasant, and Mark B and Carol Doeffinger of Atlanta, Georgia; a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Tome Dolan of Hilton Head, South Carolina; and seven grandchildren, Nicholas, Joseph, Colin, Sean, Zachery, Brett and Tess Doeffinger.

She is survived by two daughters, Vesta (John) P. Miller of Xenia, and Susan Leonard of Springfield, Ohio; three sisters, Lizzie Walker and Rilla Leport of Henderson, and Sarah Messick of Gallipolis Ferry; three grandchildren, Kenneth Miller of Jamestown, Ohio, Paul Miller of Xenia, and Jack Leonard of Urbana, Ohio; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003, at the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Pastor Roger Bonecutter officiating. She was a homemaker.

POINT PLEASANT - Lyle Hall Dunsmoor, 75, of Point Pleasant, passed away Sunday, April 13, 2003, following a short illness.
Born November 15, 1927, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late L. Dayton and Doris Hall Dunsmoor.
Lyle was married to Helen Heinselman Dunsmoor of Point Pleasant, and together they raised three children: Kimberly Dunsmoor Williams; Daniel H Dunsmoor, DVM; and Beth C. Dunsmoor, DDS.
Kimberly resides in Midlothian, Virginia, with her husband, Ted Williams, and three children, Matthew, Karen and David Williams. Daniel lives in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, and is the father of Michael, Abby and Ariel Dunsmoor. Beth lives in Cary, North Carolina.
Lyle was a graduate of Parkersburg High School and received his bachlor's degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, and later received a chemical engineering degree. He did graduate work at the University of Wisconsin and the University of Indiana, and received a master's degree in organic chemistry at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
Lyle was a research chemist with Koppers Company, Pittsburgh PPG in New Martinsville, West Virginia and Stauffer Chemical in Gallipolis Ferry. He closed out his career as a chemist for Armco Steel in Ashland, Kentucky.
He spent many years serving the Boy Scouts of America, and was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was active in the choir. He was a devoted father and will be greatly missed by all his friends and family.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2003, at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Point Pleasant with the Rev. L. Frank "Tex" Frye officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg. Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant.

AKRON, Ohio - Golda Kathleen Kinzel Durst, 98, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Mason County, West Virginia, departed this life Thursday, July 24, 2003, in Akron.
She was born August 22, 1904 in Baden, West Virginia, daughter of the late Edward and Fannie Walker Kinzel.
She was a Christian, and was baptized while attending Point Pleasant High School. She was retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, with 29 years of service.
She loved children and animals, and enjoyed flowers and the beauty of the Earth.
Survivors include a daughter, Geneva M Norman of Kaapa, Hawaii; grandchildren, Jack, April and Chris; great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Heather, Rachel and Noah; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Smith "Bruiser" and Howard "Bennie"; and sisters, Ella, Ethel, Evelyn, Emma and Ruth.

She was born December 26, 1932, at Letart, daughter of the late Vado and Elizabeth Smith Blessing.
She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd E Durst; and four brothers, Raymond Blessing, Delbert Blessing, Homer Blessing and Claude Blessing.
She is survived by two sons, Roy Eugene Durst and Lloyd Edward Durst, both of Point Pleasant; and three grandchildren.

LETART-Jason-Scott Thomas Eades, 24, of Letart, departed this life Thursday, October 2, 2003, in the Pleasant Valley Hospital of injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born January 21, 1979, in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, a son of Douglas Thomas and Susan Hill Eades of Cottageville, West Virginia.
He was a phlebotomist at Pleasant Valley Hospital, and was a laborer for Quality Woods in Eleanor, West Virginia.
He was a member of the Mason County Fair Board, the Jackson County Horse Club and the Creston United Methodist Church.

Sam L Early, 65, of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, died November 8, 2003, at his residence.
He was born November 27, 1937, in Huntington, West Virginia, a son to the late Harry and Garnet McConnell Early.
Sam was a jeweler, working in New York and Huntington. He also was a retired engineer for M&G Transport in Point Pleasant, and a member of American Legion Post No 23 of Point Pleasant.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Julia Hamlin and Edith Williams; and a brother, Hamilton Doug Early.
Sam is survived by his wife, Louise Early; sons, Daniel Early of Huntington, James Early of Richmond, Virginia, and Steve Early of Arlington, Virginia; a daughter, Elaine Early of Proctorville, Ohio; and a stepson, Scott Thomas of Point Pleasant.

HENDERSON - Charles A Ebert Jr., 81, of Henderson, West Virginia, died Sunday, August 31, 2003, at his home, after a long illness.
He served in the United States Marine Corps, and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He owned and operated Ebert's Grocery and Mountaineer Wood Crafts for many years along with his wife, Gwen. He was a skilled carpenter and master craftsman. He was a member of the Jordan Baptist Church of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Lee Ebert; parents, Charles A Ebert and Hester Duffield Ebert; two brothers, the Rev Clarence Ebert and Arnold Ebert; and six sisters, Lena Strow, Irene Kirk, Helen Thompson, Cla5ra Treen, Bessie Ebert and Rosie Ebert.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Bulmer Ebert; a son, David Charles (Judy) Ebert of Gallipolis, Ohio; three daughters, Donna (Fred) Backus of Gallipolis Ferry, Carol Ebert Blaine of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Gallipolis, and fiancé Jeff Cook, and Sonia (Carl) Birchfield of Henderson.
He is also survived by sisters, Della Searls of Southside, West Virginia, Ella Duckworth of Ocala, Florida, Nora Hanning of Henderson, Mattie Wright of Eccles, West Virginia, and Delores Drennen of Milton, Florida; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

New Haven man killed in tractor rollover
HARTFORD - The first weekend of Spring turned tragic for one Bend Area family on Saturday when a lobe one died in a fatal accident.
The Mason County Sheriff's Department reported that Douglas "Brian" Edwards, 38, of Hartford died around 2:50 p.m. as a result of injuries sustained from a tractor rollover.
According to the sheriff's reports, Edwards was cleaning property adjacent to a creek when the creek bank gave way causing the tractor to overturn.
The tractor overturned when it traversed an overhang of dirt had been created by erosion of the embankment. Edwards was pinned under the tractor when emergency service personnel from the Mason and New Haven fire departments and the Mason County EMS arrived.
Visitation is scheduled for tonight from 6-9 p.m. at Foglesong-Tucker Funeral Home in Mason. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, at 1 p.m. with the Rev Donald Roach officiating.

SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y.-Ruth Ellertsen, of Southampton, New York, formerly of Point Pleasant, West Virginia, died on Sunday, January 5, 2003, at the home of her daughter in Southampton, after a long illness. She was 84.
Born August 10 1918 in Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia to William Franklin and Vossie Mae (Meaige) Henry, she grew up in Point Pleasant and graduated from Point Pleasant High School.
She met her future husband, John Ellertsen, while he was stationed in Point Pleasant with the U.S. Army during World War II, prior to being stationed in the Panama Canal Zone.
After the war, Ruth joined her husband in the Panama Canal Zone before they returned to the United States. They settled in New York City, where they raised their family. In 1979, after her husband's death, she moved to Point Pleasant and then in 1980, moved to Southampton.
Known as a gentle and kind woman, Ruth was devoted to her family.
She is survived by daughters, Vicky Richardson and Linda MacWhinnie, son, John Ellertsen, grandchildren, Charles, James, and Karen MacWhinnie, and great-grandchildren, Charlie and Briana MacWhinnie, all of Southampton.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Grover Maxwell Henry; and sisters, Freda (Henry) Epling and Mary Ann (Henry) Moore. They were all from Point Pleasant.
The family received friends on Tuesday, January 7,, 2003, at the Brockett Funeral Home, with Pastor George M. Dupree officiating. After cremation, Ruth's remains were interred with those of her husband in the Calverton National Cemetery.

She was born September 28, 1936, in Kermit, Texas, a daughter of the late Herman Roy and Dovie Mae Pogue Slaughter.
Veneita was a retired medical supervisor from Lakin State Hospital. She was a Baptist by faith.

APPLE GROVE - Christopher Dale Facemyer of Apple Grove, beloved son of Vernon D and Millie M Baker Facemyer, died Sunday, February 2, 2003 at his home. He was 32, born November 19, 1970, in Cabell County.
Chris was a graduate of Hannan High School and Marshall University. He was a paramedic for the Gallia County E.M.S. and Life Ambulance Services in Gallipolis, Ohio. He was an instructor for NALS, PALS, and a CPR instructor. Chris was active in the Mason County Little League and youth football programs. He was a past president of the FFA at Hannan High School, a member of the Marshall Alumni Association, and an avid Marshall football fan.
He is survived by his wife, Aimee Facemyer; his son, Alex Facemyer of Glenwood; his maternal grandmother, Rhoda Baker of Huntington; sister, Tonia Stover and her husband Greg of Apple Grove; s special nephew, Cody Stover of Apple Grove; brother Michael Facemyer and his wife Leslie and daughter Sydney of Pliny; and several extended family members and friends.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Nancy Fields of Letart; a daughter, Angie Fields of Letart; a son, Tommy Fields of Letart; a son and daughter-in-law, Johnnie and Linda Fields of Leon, West Virginia; and a grandson, Christopher Fields of Leon.
He is also survived by two sisters, Vickie Dress of Logan, Ohio, and Kathy Sigman of New Haven, West Virginia; a brother, Paul Fields of West Columbia; his father-in-law, Paul Wears o Lakeland, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Fields; his grandparents, Charles and Maggie Fields; and his mother-in-law, Nancy Virginia Wears.
Services will be 1 pm Friday, October 17, 2003, in the Foglesong-Tucker Funeral Home at Mason, West Virginia, with Curtis Bauske and Troy Gilmore officiating. Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery at Letart. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6 to 9 pm Thursday, October 16, 2003.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. - Frances Irene Waring Fletcher, 90, of Falls Church, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003, at the Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
She was born December 9, 1912, in King, West Virginia, to the late Meredith Francis and Carrie Irene Booth Waring.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death in November 1996 by her husband of 61 years, William Gibson Fletcher.
She was a member of the Kenova Presbyterian Church of Kenova, West Virginia, and the Arlington Presbyterian Church of Arlington, Virginia.
Frances was an avid homemaker, and had been an educator at Kenova Elementary in Kenova, West Virginia, Washington and Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia, and in Adult Education in Fairfax County in Virginia.
She acquired her Master's Degree at the University of Maryland.
Frances is survived by two daughters and son-in-law, Carole and George Fitchko of Falls Church, Virginia, and Elizabeth and Edwin Cox of Falls Church, Virginia; one sister, Mary Rice of Point Pleasant, West Virginia; two grandsons, William and Michael Fitchko of Falls Church, Virginia; and several loving nieces and nephews.
There will be no local visitation or funeral service.
Burial will be held in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia, at a date to be announced by the Arlington Funeral Home in Arlington, Virginia.
Local arrangements are being handled by the Wilcoxen Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, West Virginia.

GALLIPOLIS FERRY - Thelma Waunedia Wallis Fout, 78, of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, went to be with the Lord Saturday, October 4, 2003, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Thelma, a daughter of the late Millard Fillmore Wallis and Stella Marie King Wallis, was born April 12, 1925, in Mason County, West Virginia.
Thelma taught school at Verndale, Wyoma and Beech Hill Schools, was a cook and a teacher's aide at Wood School and retired from Beal Elementary School after 30 years of service with the Mason County Board of Education. She always loved to see the children she had worked with over the years and reminisced with them. She took great pleasure in teaching children and watching them learn.
Thelma was a devout Christian and attended many churches throughout the area. She loved her Pastor, Larry Chapman and his wife Gail at Mt Carmel Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend, who was loved dearly by her family and was always there for them in every way. She loved her girls and son-in-law, Lester, as a son. Her precious grandchildren knew they were loved without her saying a word.
Thelma is survived by her daughter Ruth Marie Font of Gallipolis Ferry; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Magdalene and Lester Putney Jr of Point Pleasant; daughter Martha Ann Fout and her companion Roger Halstead of Gallipolis Ferry; grandchildren Stephanie Kay Putney, Philip Nathan Putney (Amber). Special and dear friends, Kelli Thomas and Virginia Ruth Kinniard.
Thelma was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth O'Dell Fout, who died February 14, 1996, and an infant brother Theodore Hershel Wallis.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at the Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, with the Rev Larry Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Beale Chapel Cemetery at Apple Grove, West Virginia.
Friends may call from 6-9 pm Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at the funeral home.
Mom, we will miss you. Our lives will never be the same without you, bur because you and Daddy loved us, prayed for us and taught us the way, we will be with you again. We love you.

Obituaries
Frederick "Fritz" Frey passed away Sunday, December 14, 2003. He is fondly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Betty "BJ" Frey; six sons, Fred, Rick, Clay, Kevin, Karl and Paul; and 13 grandchildren.
Also surviving are a first cousin, Betty Martin and her daughter, Marilyn of Point Pleasant, West Virginia.
Fritz easily won many friendships with his generosity and was known for his penchant to find the perfect olive. He met and married his bride BJ Clayton while serving in Japan as a US Naval officer during the Korean Conflict. Fritz's math and computer skills opened many doors with military contractors, public school systems and fraternal organizations. His career took the family to Point Pleasant; Valley Center, California; Sierra Vista, Arizona, and Cananea Sonora, where he installed the first IBM computer in Mexico.
After retiring in 1985, Fritz and BJ made their homes in Tucson and Kino Bay, Mexico. When Fritz wasn't preparing tax returns he worked on his tennis prowess, mastering the ambidextrous backhand that confounded many of his competitors.
We'll miss your Christmas letters and cheerful abrazos, but we will think of you at every happy hour, whenever martinis are served.
Join us in celebrating Fritz's life at noon, Saturday, December 20, 2003, at St. Odilla Church, 7570 North Paseo Del Norte, Tucson, Arizona.
