
Gafken, Sandra Leola
Sandra Leola Proffitt Gafken, 59, of Grand Prairie, Texas died
Friday, November 24, 1995, at her home.
Born October 4, 1936 in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of
the late Emory A. and Garnett (Buckalew) Proffitt. She was also
preceded in death by a brother, Charles D. Proffitt.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Rebekah and Kenneth
Bachman, Kimberly and Stephen Douglass; a son and daughter-in-law,
Charles and Barbara Gafken; a sister, Arnolda Smith Carpenter;
a brother and sister-in-law, William H. and Zelda Proffitt of
Point Pleasant; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial service was held Sunday, November 27, at South Park Baptist
Church, Grand Prairie, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
donations be made to South Park Baptist Church Building Fund,
401 W. Warrior Trail, Grand Prairie, TX. Restland Funeral Home
was in charge of the arrangements.
Gelwicks, Thelma
Thelma Gelwicks, 80, of Point Pleasant, died Sunday, March 19,
1995, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in
Point Pleasant.
Born January 7, 1915 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of
the late Andrew J. and Francis C. (Bruchmicuki) Van Coney. She
was also preceded in death by her husband, Arthur C. Gelwicks,
Sr.; and five sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur C. Jr. and
Sue Gelwicks of Audubon, PA; three sisters, Alma Spreen of Cincinnati,
Ohio, Pinky Cordrey of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jean Blumfield of
Versailles, Indiana; two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, at the
Suncrest Cemetery in Point Pleasant with Rev. Louis A. Hussell
officiating. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Crow-Hussell Funeral
Home.
George, Elbert Franklin
Elbert Franklin George, 89, formerly of Hernshaw, W.Va., died
Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1995, in Lakin Hospital.
Born May 10, 1905, he was a son of the late Joshua J. and Mary
Alice (Hughey) George.
He was a laborer.
Survivors are a sister, Nona Batten of Spencer; brother, David
George of Gauley Bridge, W.Va.; a niece and two nephews.
The funeral will be Friday, 10 a.m., at the Lakin Chapel with
the Rev. Ben Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.

Gheen, Helen Marie
Helen Marie Gheen, 94, of Point Pleasant, formerly of Wheeling,
died Thursday, April 27, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center after a short illness.
Born June 16, 1900 in Neuchatel, Switzerland, she was a daughter
of the late Edward and Sophia Groux. In addition to her parents,
she was preceded in death by her husband, Worley; a son, Harold;
two sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include two sons, Arthur of Point Pleasant and Orville
of Wheeling; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Service will be held at Kepner Funeral Home, Burke Chapel, 2101
Warwood Avenue, Wheeling, Monday, May 1, at 11 a.m. Burial will
be at Parkview Memorial Gardens in Wheeling. Friends may call

Gibbs, Rolland P
Rolland P. 'Gibby' Gibbs, 75, of Letart, went home to be with
Jesus Thursday, Feb. 16, 1995, 3 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
He was a retired electrician, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War
II and a Christian. He was a member of the Stewart-Johnson VFW
Post 9926 of Mason, and I.B.E.W. Local 183 of Lexington, Ky.
He was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Salem Community. He was the son of
the late Dewey and Willia (Edwards) Gibbs. He was also preceded
in death by two brothers, William and Danny Gibbs and a great-grandson,
Isaac David Foreman.
Surviving are his wife, Mona (Edwards) Gibbs; two daughters and
sons-in-law, Ramona and Dean Knight of New Haven and Renita and
Donnie Roush of Gibbstown; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rolland
'Sunny' and Connie Gibbs of Gibbstown, Keith and Michelle Gibbs,
also of Gibbstown; 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; one
brother, Jack Gibbs of Gibbstown; six sisters, Elizabeth Johnson
of Broad Run, Maysel Zerkle of Mason, Dorothy Fields and Grace
Goodnite of Hartford, Janice Goodnite and Sandra MacKnight of
New Haven.
The funeral will be held Sunday, 1 p.m., at the Fogelsong Funeral
Home, Mason, with Rev. George Hoschar officiating and Rev. Rankin
Roach presenting a special reading. Burial will follow in Zerkle

Gibson, Louise Isabel
Louise Isabel Gibson, 98, of Poca, W.Va., died Sunday, May 21,
1995, at her residence following a long illness.
She was a native of Paradise, W.Va., former owner of Gibson's
Grocery for 25 years, and a member of the Bancroft Church of God
Mission.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Wanda Cartwright and Mrs.
Clara Withrow, both of Poca; two sons, L.H. 'Junior' Gibson of
Point Pleasant, Donald Gibson of Nitro; seven grandchildren and
nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the Gatens Funeral Home
Chapel, Poca, with the Rev. Delbert Gibson officiating. Burial
will be in the Parkins Cemetery, Paradise. Friends may call at

Gilmore, George Y
George Y. Gilmore, 82, Gallipolis, Ohio, died Thursday, May 25,
1995 at his residence, following an extended illness.
Born July 12, 1912 in Marlington, son of the late George P. and
Geneva Cunningham Gilmore, he was a 1930 graduate of Gallia Academy
High School and attended West Virginia State College. He graduated
from the University of Rio Grande.
A teacher for several years at the old Lincoln School, he was
later employed at Kaiser Aluminum Corp., Ravenswood, retiring
in 1980. He was a member of the Paint Creek Baptist Church and
a member of the Ancient York Lodge #33, AF & AM.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Esther Lewis Gilmore,
in 1992. They were married Jan. 9, 1939.
Surviving are six sons, George (Judith) Gilmore of Arlington,
Va., John (Lydia) Gilmore of Columbus, Ohio, Andrew Gilmore of
Kerr, Ohio, Daniel (Jill) Gilmore of Tallahassee, Fla., and James
Gilmore and Norman Gilmore, both of Gallipolis; a daughter, Andrea
G. Davis of Columbus; 12 grandchildren and a great-grandchild;
a sister, Gean (Henry) Norman of Columbus; two sisters-in-law,
Emma Toles of Point Pleasant, and Lillian Crawley of Columbus;
a brother-in-law, John H. Lewis of Columbus; and many nieces and
nephews.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Paint Creek Baptist Church,
with the Rev. Dennis Hurt officiating. Burial will be in the Pine
Street Cemetery. Friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral
Home on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. The body will lie in state in the
church one hour prior to the services. Masonic services will be
conducted in the funeral home by Ancient York Lodge #33, F &

Glenn, Dora E
Dora E. Glenn, 86, of Ravenswood, formerly of Henderson, died
Saturday, Feb. 11, 1995, in the Ravenswood Village Health Center.
Born March 5, 1908, she was a daughter of the late George and
Nancy (Hill) Dowell. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Clarence T. Glenn, who died in 1975; three daughters, Shirley
Jean, Freda and Sally; one brother and four sisters.
A former employee of G.C. Murphy's, she was a member of the Henderson
United Methodist Church, where she had served as Sunday School
superintendent for many years.
Surviving are five daughters and three sons-in-law, Mrs. Louise
Hopson of Southside, Aileen and Tucker Williamson of Winfield,
Irene and Earl Long of Gallipolis Ferry, Anna and Jackie Ocheltree
of Ravenswood, and Alice Taylor of McArthur, Ohio; two sons and
a daughter-in-law, C. Denver and Delores Glenn of Southside, Donald
E. Glenn of Point Pleasant; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren
and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Beech Hill United
Methodist Church with the Rev. Bennie Stevens and Rev. Bobby Woods
officiating. Burial will be in the Beech Hill Cemetery. Friends

Glover, Judson M
Judson M. Glover, 70, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Mason County,
died Friday, November 3, 1995, in Riverside Hospital, Columbus.
Born February 10, 1925 in Milton, he was a son of the late Della
Glover. He was an employee of Buckeye Steel Casting, Co., Columbus.
Survivors include his wife, Pansy (Collins) Glover; a daughter,
Becky Orcutt, Columbus, Ohio; two sons, Richard Glover of Zanesville,
Ohio and Dennis Collins of Newark, Ohio; an aunt, Maudie Black
of Fraziers Bottom; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Service will be Wednesday, November 8, at 11 a.m. at Heck Funeral
Home, Milton. Burial will be in Staton Chapel Cemetery, near Milton.

Goodwin, Robert T
Robert T. Goodwin died in Sonoma, California, on August 31, 1995
after a long illness.
Born in Point Pleasant, WV in 1916, he had lived in Sonoma for
13 years.
A mechanical engineer specializing in heating, ventilating and
air conditioning, he was at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked
on Dec. 7, 1941. During the war, he was a naval officer and later
served with the army of occupation in Japan.
When peace came, he worked for several architectural and engineering
firms in Carmel and San Francisco before finally joining Bachtel
in 1964 where, among other projects, he participated in design
for the nuclear fuel, recycle program and was a member of the
Uranium Enrichment Association design group. He retired from there
in late 1981 and moved to Sonoma the following year.
Mr. Goodwin was active as a volunteer in the planning and development
of the present Vintage House building. He was also Big Sir of
SIR Chapter 41 in the mid-'80s.
He is survived by his foster sister, Golda Powell of Hurricane,
WV; son, Paul Ruskell of Seaside; two adopted daughters in Oregon;
and his dear friend Eleanor Darrah of Wine Country House.
At his request, there were no services. Memorial remembrances

Charles B. Gordon, 78, Groveport, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan 29, 1995
at the Bristol House Nursing Home, Columbus, Ohio.
Born Sept. 25, 1916 in Cheshire, Ohio, the son of the late Albert
and Myrtle Shuler Gordon, he was a laborer in a refinery.
He is survived by his son, Homer Edward Gordon of Pomeroy, Ohio;
brother, Homer Ross Gordon of Georgia; and sister, Anna Romayne
Ebersbach of New Haven.
Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Beech Grove
Cemetery in Pomeroy. Arrangements are by the Myers Funeral Home

Grady, Kevin Lee
Kevin Lee Grady, 21, of 48360 Bowman Road, Racine, Ohio, died
Monday, Sept. 4, 1995, at Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Born March 20, 1974, in Columbus, Kevin was the son of Paul L.
and Catherine L. (Seam) Grady of Racine.
He was employed as a security guard. The 1992 graduate of Southern
High School played on the football team there. He was a five year
4-H club member, spent four years with Unit 3664 National Guard,
Point Pleasant, W.Va. and was an employee of Hills Department
Store.
In addition to his parents, Kevin is survived by his brother,
Steven E. Grady, his sister-in-law, Tina Grady, a niece, Catherine
Grady, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, 1995, at 11 a.m.,
at the Letart Falls Cemetery Chapel. The Rev. Kenneth Baker will

Grecorich, Emily Louise
Emily Louise (Foster) Gregorich, 75, of 2016 Jefferson Ave., Point
Pleasant, died Monday, March 27, 1995 at her home.
A retired store manager, health services worker and homemaker,
she attended the Grace Baptist Church in Point Pleasant, and was
a member of the Pleasantdale Baptist Church in Enoch, W.Va.
Born March 15, 1920, in Swandale, Clay Co., she was a daughter
of the late Roy Earl Foster and Susie Ethel (Barnette) Foster.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Gregorich,
Sr., and a brother, H. Wade Foster.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Roy Lane of
Point Pleasant; step son, Fred Gregorich, Jr. of Huntington; brother
and sister-in-law, Dale and Helen Foster of Point Pleasant; sister-in-law,
Beulah Foster of Enoch; and several nieces and nephews.

Bert M. Grimm, Sr., 85, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Sept.
26, 1995, at his home.
Born April 25, 1910, in Letart, he was a son of the late James
M. and Elizabeth Ansteth (Rollins) Grimm. He was also preceded
in death by three brothers and two sisters.
He was the owner and operator of Grimm's Jewelry Store in Point
Pleasant for over 40 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Pullins) Grimm; son, Bert M. Grimm,
Jr. of Huntington; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Alpha Kemmer of Ponca City, Oklahoma.

Born July 16, 1905, in New Haven, she was a daughter of the late
Wilson P. and Linnie (Tripp) Miller. She was also preceded in
death by her husband, Thomas O. Grinstead, two sons, Paul and
Bob Grinstead, twin sister, Buster Roush, and four brothers, Homer,
Charlie, Bill and James Miller.
A homemaker, she was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church
of New Haven, a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 256 of New Haven,
and member of the Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary of New Haven.

of New Haven, Shelby and Cecil Duncan of New Haven, Betty Rice
of Marion, Ill.; son, Bill Grinstead of New Haven; two daughters-in-law,

W.V. Department of Welfare for 43 years, a member of Hartford

Legion Smith-Capehart Auxiliary Unit 140, Mason County Historical
Society, and New Haven Sewing Club. She was a 1934 graduate of
Wahama High School.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Joedy Dale Dodson;
and three brothers, James R., Ralph Wayne and E. Harold Phillips.
She is survived by her husband, Vernon D. Grinstead of Hartford;
a daughter and son-in-law, Irma M. and Kenneth A. Dodson of Hurricane;

Walter 'Pete' Grinstead, 88, of New Haven, died Friday, February
3, 1995, at the Pleasant Valley Care Center in Point Pleasant.
He was a lab technician for Foote Mineral; a long time employee
of Riverside Golf Course; World War II U.S. Army Veteran; member
of the New Haven United Methodist Church; member of Smith-Capehart
American Legion No. 140 in New Haven; and a member of J.O.U.A.M.
Born January 3, 1907, in New Haven, W.Va., he was the son of the
late Richard and Elizabeth (Roush) Grinstead.
He is survived by his wife, Polly (Staats) Grinstead; two sisters,
Alice Miller, of Marietta, Ohio and Ella Roush, of New Haven;
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 6, at
Fogelsong Funeral Home. Rev. Eldon Shingleton will officiate.

Beulah 'Sadie' Haer, 89, of Buffalo, Putnam County, died Saturday,
Sept. 30, 1995, at her home.
A homemaker, she was a Christian and attended Buffalo United Methodist
Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oliver H. Haer, who
was the owner and operator of the O.H. Haer & Son garage in
Buffalo for many years; a daughter, Ann Rose Haer, two sisters,
Pauline Phillips and Peggy Drawdy; and a brother, Ranson Parsons.

Max Thomas Hanning, 69, of Henderson died Thursday, September
21, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born September 10, 1926 in Charleston, he was a son of the late
Max T. and Irene (Hodge) Hanning. He was a decorated retired veteran
of Naval and Army service in World War II, Korea and Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Nora (Ebert) Hanning of Henderson;
a daughter, Teresa J. Lee of Gallipolis; three sons, Max T. Hanning
Jr. of Lucasville, Ohio, Edward L. Hanning of Lamar, IN, and Allen
L. Hanning of Gallipolis Ferry; two sisters, Maxine Taylor of
Madison, IN and Matilda Hail of Dayton, Ohio; and eight grandchildren.

Hanson, Richard Marvin
Richard Marvin Hanson, 48, of 196 North Park Drive, Point Pleasant,
WV, died Tuesday, July 25, 1995, at his home.
Born September 17, 1946 in Welch, WV, he was the son of Lewis
E. and Margaret (Bishop) Hanson of Twin Branch, WV.
He was a speech pathologist in Mason County Schools, a 1964 graduate
of Welch High School, a 1968 graduate of Marshall University,
an Eagle Scout, a member of the Persian Riffle Drill Team in ROTC,
a former Methodist pastor in Jerome, Ohio, Crumpler, Prosperity,
and Worth Churches in Southern West Virginia. He attended Seminary
at Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio, and was a member
of the West Virginia Speech and Hearing Association.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Carol J.
(Price) Hanson of Point Pleasant, WV; a son, Christopher L. Hanson
of Cincinnati, Ohio; four daughters, Courtnie L. Ashburn of Point
Pleasant, WV, Lara L. Hanson of Patriot, Ohio, Tera L. Hanson
of Patriot, Ohio, and Heather N. Ashburn of Point Pleasant, WV;
a brother and sister-in-law, Michael W. and Elizabeth Jane Hesson
of Durham, NC; a niece, Valerie Hanson of Durham, NC; and a nephew,

William F. (Fred) Harbour, 82, of Pomona, Ca., formerly of Hogsett,
died Friday, Jan. 6, 1995, at his residence.
Born May 31, 1912, in Hogsett, he was a son of the late Charles
W. and Rosa B. Harbour. He was also preceded in death by one brother
and two sisters.
Surviving are his wife, Grace; three sons, Ralph of Gallipolis
Ferry, George of Huntington, Leroy of Apple Grove; two daughters,
Deloris J. Plants of Leon, Rosemary Christiansen of San Bernadino,
Ca.; three sisters, Opal Bush, of Gallipolis Ferry, Elizabeth
Dabney of Southside, Nellie Turley of Bloomingdale, Ohio; 13 grandchildren
and 14 great-grandchildren.

Harmon, Ray
Ray Harmon, 70, of Robertsburg, died Wednesday, June 28, 1995,
at his home following a long illness.
Born August 14, 1924 in Putnam County, he was a son of the late
Baylus B. and Glenn (Jividen) Harmon.
He was a farmer, a trustee for Mt. Zion Cemetery, a former employee
of the West Virginia Department of Highways with 15 years service
and an Army World War II veteran. He was also a former Farmer
of the Year for the Western Soil Conservation District.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl Harmon; two sons, Gary K. at
home and Joe of Liberty; four daughters, Betty Casto, Barbara
Stone, Judy Grady and Colleen Stone, all of Robertsburg; two sisters,
Margaret Smith of Robertsburg and Jean Harmon of Buffalo and 13
grandchildren.

Harrison, Paul H
Paul H. Harrison, 70, of Gallipolis, Ohio and formerly of Point
Pleasant, died Monday, November 20, 1995, at Holzer Medical Center,
Gallipolis.
He was a member of the Church of Christ in Point Pleasant; a retired
river captain, working for various companies; and he was a U.S.
Army veteran of World War II.
Born June 8, 1925 in Vanceburg, KY, he was a son of the late Colonel
Harrison and Jessie (Reed) Higginbotham of Gallipolis, Ohio.
In addition to his mother, he is also survived by his wife, Bonnie
(Pearson) Harrison; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leah and Kip
Atkinson of Gallipolis, Ohio and Susan and Rocky Sturgeon of Gallipolis
Ferry; three sons and daughters-in-law, Paul David and Jean Harrison
of Gallipolis, Michael and Shelia Harrison of Gallipolis, and
Tim and Kim Harrison of Westerville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and
two great-grandchildren.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, at the
Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant. Burial will follow
in Kirkland Memorial Gardens, near Point Pleasant. Visiting hours
will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. In lieu

Icie P. Hatfield, 84, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV, died Sunday morning,
June 4, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant, WV.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Jordan Baptist Church
in Gallipolis Ferry and a member of the Southern States F.H.A.C.
Born November 27, 1910 in Fayette County, WV, she was a daughter
of the late William Henry Harper and the late Elzada Florence
(Hanes) Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband,
Drew L. Hatfield, who died April 28, 1990; and a daughter, Charlotte
Hatfield; five brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by three daughters, Joan H. Baird, Mrs. Earl (Joyce)
Foglesong and Mrs. Bill (Janie) Bateman, all of Gallipolis Ferry,
WV; one grandson, Danny (Sharon) Foglesong of Gallipolis Ferry,
WV; and a great-grandson, Drew Foglesong of Gallipolis Ferry,
WV.

Carolyn Sue McAbee Board Hayes, 57, of Rt. 1, Letart, WV, died
Sunday, February 26, 1995, at Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis,
Ohio.
Born June 25, 1937 in New Cumberland, WV, she was a daughter of
Gaynell (Freeman) McAbee of West Columbia, WV, and the late Bert
McAbee. She was a homemaker and attended Salem Community Church
and Rutland Church of God.
In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by her
first husband, Robert Earl Board, Sr.

C.L. 'Bud' Head, 82, of Point Pleasant died Sunday, June 18, 1995,
at the home of his daughter in Syracuse, NY.
Born December 4, 1912 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, he was a son
of the late Joseph and Cora (Leffler) Head. He was a retired employee
of the Mason County Board of Education, where he taught at Point
Pleasant Senior High School; he was a former employee of Marietta
Manufacturing Company - purchasing department; and had operated
an insurance agency. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist
Church in Point Pleasant, where he served as choir director for
many years; and was a member of Alpho Photo Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Doris G. (Lambing) Head;
a daughter, Marjorie Head of Syracuse, NY; two sons, Donald L.
Head of Portland, Maine and Joseph B. Head of Fairfax, VA; two
sisters, Hannah Geiser of Punta Gorda, FL and Betty Pickering
of Albuquerque, New Mexico; four grandchildren and several nieces
and nephews.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 22, at Trinity
United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant, with Rev. Steven E. Dorsey

Hedrick, Paul
Paul 'Squeaky' Hedrick, Leon, passed away after a long illness
Thursday, Aug. 31, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point
Pleasant.
Born in Buffalo, W.Va., he was a son of the late Daniel Jacob
Hedrick and Margaret (Oliver) Hedrick. He was also preceded in
death by two brothers and three sisters.
A member of the Buffalo United Methodist Church, Buffalo, W.Va.,
he was a retired riverboat captain with 29 years of service.
Survivors include a good friend, his wife, Gloria Hedrick of Leon;
two sons, Paul Lewis Hedrick of Weirton, W.Va., Dexter Ray Hedrick
of Marion, Ohio; step daughter, Shirley Durst of Leon; three step
sons, David Whittington and Roger Whittington, both of Leon, Herbert
Whittington of Buffalo; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren,
11 step grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren.

Mary Evelyn Henry, 92, of Gallipolis Ferry, WV died Wednesday,
August 2, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born April 28, 1903 in Putnam County, she was a daughter of the
late Andrew and Carrie (Saxton) Putney. She was a member of Jordan
Baptist Church, Gallipolis Ferry, and a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Asa U. Henry; a
great-grandson, Randy Smith; three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include seven daughters, Mahala Jones, Emma A. Fisher,
Margaret Yester, Geraldine (John) Adams and Virginia (Woodrow)
Long, all of Gallipolis Ferry, Yvonne (Alfred) Short of Glouster,
Ohio and Maxine (Kurt) Johnson of Rapid City, SD; a sister, Grace
Thivener of Gallipolis, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren;
and three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert Lewis Henry, 58, of Island View Drive, Parkersburg, died
Saturday, Jan. 14, 1995, in St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.
Born in Gallipolis Ferry, he was a son of the late Franklin Joseph
and Retha (Persinger) Henry. He was also preceded in death by
two brothers, Randall and Floyd Henry.
He worked at Tebay Dairy Co. near Parkersburg for 34 years.
Surviving are two sons, Robert L. Henry, Jr. of Ravenswood, Kenneth
B. Henry, of Ravenswood; daughter, Sherry Asher of Ravenswood;
three grandchildren; five brothers, Burdell Henry of New Jersey,

Jerry E. Hensley, Sr., 53, of Chesapeake, Ohio, died Sunday, Jan.
22 1995, in St. Mary's Hospital.
Born Feb. 25, 1941, in Huntington, he was a son of Mrs. Ona Blankenship
of Huntington and the late Ervin Hensley. He was also preceded
in death by his stepfather, Clyde Blankenship and three brothers,
Howard, Darrell and Scott E. Hensley.
He was a former employee of ACF Industries and a member of the
Jefferson Avenue Church of God.
Surviving are his wife, Joy Hensley; two sons and daughter-in-law,
Jerry E. Hensley, Jr., Gary and Heather Hensley, all of South
Point, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Judy Hensley

Ivy Jane Grady Herdman, 86, of Buffalo, died Wednesday, April
12, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital following a long illness.
Born May 22, 1908 in Jackson County, WV, the daughter of the late
Ervin and Mary Jane (Bowman) Grady. She was a homemaker and attended
Walker Chapel Church in Robertsburg.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. 'Hib'
Herdman.
Survivors include three daughters, Donna Jividen and Thelma Rhodes
of Robertsburg and Norma Reedy of Buffalo; three sons, Randell

George E. Hervey, 84, of Lexington, KY, formerly of Huntington,
died Tuesday, July 18, 1995, in Mayfair Manor Nursing Center,
Lexington, KY.
Born November 18, 1910 in Morgantown, he was a son of the late
George . E. Sr. and Maude (Bigelow) Hervey.
He was a retired Divisional Manager of the Appalachian Electric
Power Co., having served in various capacities in Point Pleasant,
Charleston, Logan and since 1968 in Huntington. He was a member
of the advisory board of St. Mary's Hospital, past president on
Central Ohio Valley Industrial Commission, J.C.'s Boss of the
Year in 1974, active in Red Cross blood program, member of the
City Club; Masonic Order 153 of Charleston, former member of the
Huntington Rotary Club and Guyan Country Club. He served as an
Elder of the Enslow Park Presbyterian Church of which he was a
member.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis (Wolverton) Hervey of Lexington,
KY; two daughters, Melinda Hervey Hamilton Goodrich of Los Angeles,
CA and Bonnie Rumora of Winston-Salem, NC; and two granddaughters.

Mark Wayne 'It's' Holley, 32, Rt. 2 Point Pleasant, died Sunday,
March 12, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant.
He was an employee of the Mason County Board of Education in the
maintenance department, member of the Addison Freewill Baptist
Church and a 1980 graduated of Point Pleasant High School.
Born May 1, 1962, in Point Pleasant, he was the son of Cleo V.
Holley, Point Pleasant, and the late Wanda Evelyn (Jolley) Holley.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Nobie (Groff)
Holley; two daughters, Carley Ann Holley, Gallipolis Ferry and
Shealyn Ember Holley of Heaters, WV; one step-son, Justin Groff,
Heaters; one sister, Anita Joy Kimble, Scott Depot and one brother,

Roe Wesley Holley, 66, of Ashton died Friday, November 14, 1995
in St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.
Born January 18, 1929 in Mason County, he was a son of the late
George Washington and Myrlie Holley. He was retired from the Perry
Norvell Shoe Co., Huntington, and co-owned and operated with his
wife Holley Grocery, Ashton. He was a member of Mt. Olive United
Methodist Church where he was a class leader, Sunday school teacher
and trustee.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn (Bush) Holley; two sons and
a daughter-in-law, Dwight and Rebecca Holley of Huntington and
Brent Holley and his fiancé Angela Holley, both of Ashton;
a granddaughter; and two sisters, Belma Barker of Glenwood and
Vena Meadows of Milton.
Service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 27, at Mt. Olive
United Methodist Church, near Milton with Rev. William Coleman
and Rev. Joe Dolen officiating. Burial followed in the church

Leroy D. Hoschar, 80, of Washington Courthouse, Ohio, formerly
of Mason County, died Thursday, November 29, 1995, at Fayette
County Memorial Hospital, Washington Courthouse, Ohio.
Born November 25, 1915 in West Columbia, he was a son of the late
John and Emma (Chaffins) Hoschar. He was a retired foundry worker.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Grace (Cox) Hoschar;
and three sons, Andrew, Delbert and David Hoschar; four sisters;
and four brothers.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Robert
Scott, of Xenia, Ohio and Rose and Kermeth Cochran of New Carsile,

Hudson, Katherine Marie
Katherine Marie Hudson, 79, of Henderson died Saturday, November
18, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant.
She was a retired cook for the Mason County Board of Education,
where she had worked at Central Elementary School; and a member
of the Concord Baptist Church in Henderson.
Born November 11, 1914 in Henderson, she was a daughter of the
late Elmer and India Anna (Honaker) Ord. In addition to her parents,
she was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Hudson;
three sisters and eight brothers.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and
Raymond Cossin of Leon, Caraedna and Owen Likens of Henderson
and Peggy and Park Likens of Gallipolis Ferry; five sons and daughters-in-law,
Clifford and Betty Hudson of Henderson, Robert R. and Louise Hudson

Huffman, Tennie
Tennie Huffman, 100, of Sweetland, W.Va., died Tuesday, March
21, 1995, at St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.
Born Oct. 21, 1894, in Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the
late Jessie and Tempie (Sloan) Martin. She was also preceded in
death by her husband of 71 years, Henry Huffman; sons Alonzo,
Everette, Roy, Jr., and daughters, Lena Pridemore and Opal Pridemore.
She was a homemaker, charter member of the Middlecreek Baptist
Church, and was known as one of the first midwives in early West
Virginia. Surviving are six sons, William J. Huffman, James Orville
Huffman, Troy Huffman and Kenneth Pridemore, all of Point Pleasant,
Ray and Bobbie Huffman of Hamlin; two daughters, Collei Plumbley
of Hamlin and Betty Layne of Frankfort, Ky.; 40 grandchildren
and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Winfield 'Windy' Huffman, 57, of Point Pleasant, died Friday,
June 9, 1995, at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis.
Born December 30, 1937 in Glenwood, he was a son of Gusta (Holley)
Huffman of Glenwood and the late Thomas Huffman. He was a U.S.
Army veteran and a mechanic.
In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his
wife, Florence L. (Stepp) Huffman; and a brother, Thomas Huffman.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a son, Charlie Huffman
of Glenwood; three step-daughters, Sue Richoz of Elgin, IL, Connie
Hazelrig of Covington, TN and Georgianna Arwood of Covington,
TN; three sisters, Ruby Blain, Dorothy Holley and Till Wray, all
of Glenwood; a brother, Bill Huffman of Norman Park, GA; 12 grandchildren;

Charles L. Hughes, 92, of Apple Grove, died Monday, Nov. 6, 1995,
in the Point Pleasant Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A former employee of the Marietta Manufacturing Co., he was a
farmer and member of the Ball's Chapel Church of Ashton.
Born Dec. 29, 1902, in Ashton, he was a son of the late George
and Effie (Hill) Hughes. He was also preceded in death by his
wife, Iva (Waugh) Hughes in 1990; daughter, Easter Bateman; and
five infant children.
Surviving are four daughters, Audrey Hoover, Ellen Hughes, both

Doris A. Hurlow, 57, of Mason, died Monday, Nov. 20, 1995, at
her residence.
She was a homemaker and attended the Salem Community Church.
Born Dec. 18, 1937, in Kettle, W.Va., she was a daughter of the
late Romie H. White and Lessie (Moore) White. She was also preceded
in death by a sister, Sybil White.
Surviving are her husband, James C. Hurlow; two daughters and

Senna M. (Bass) Hussell, 65, of Point Pleasant, died Saturday,
July 15, 1995, at her home after a long illness.
She was a member of the Evangelical Christian Union Church in
Point Pleasant.
Born November 21, 1929, in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter
of the late Harry L. and Freda (Gardner) Bass. In addition to
her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, David,
Billy and Bobby Bass, and a sister, Patsy Bass.
She is survived by her husband, Robert 'Bob' Hussell; two sons
and daughters-in-law, Robert and Connie Sue Hussell and Harry
and Dianna Hussell, all of Point Pleasant; three sisters, Nancy
Jackson, Point Pleasant, Barbara Cornell and Mildred Fowler, both
of Letart; four brothers, Edward Bass, West Columbia, Harry Bass,
Ronnie Gale Bass and Charles Bass, all of Point Pleasant; and
three grandchildren.

Walter Howard 'Buddy' Icenhower, Jr., 48, of Hartford, died Sunday,
Aug. 20, 1995, at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Pomeroy.
He was an ironworker on construction, member of the Episcopal
Church bf Maryland, and U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam.
Born May 27, 1947, in Washington, D.C., he was a son of the late
Walter Howard Icenhower, Sr. and Lillian Elizabeth (Beane) Icenhower.
Surviving are three daughters, Denise M. Richardson of Clinton,
Md., Jeanne J. Burton of Nelsonville, OH, Kristina L. Foust of
Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, John E. Icenhower of Washington,
D.C., Michael W. Icenhower of Waldorf, Md.; fiancé, Judy
A. Zirkle of Hartford; 12 grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles

Iva Gibbs Ingels, 80, of Mason, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 1995,
at the residence of her daughter in Mason.
Born Feb. 2, 1915, in Hartford, she was a daughter of the late
Irvin Blaine and Anna Marie Gibbs. She was also preceded in death
by her husband, John William Ingels, and eight brothers and sisters.
A homemaker and volunteer, she was a member of the Order of the
Eastern Star, Chapter 157 of Mason Stewart-Johnson Post 9926 V.F.W.
Ladies Auxiliary, and Smith-Capehart American Legion Post 140

Christopher Alan Jackson, 25, of St. Augustine, Fla., died Thursday,
Nov. 9, 1995, in Baltimore, Md.
He was a son of Vicki and Larry Jackson of St. Augustine, and
is also survived by four sisters, a brother, and grandparents,
Juanita Hope of Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Taylor of Mason.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 25, 2 p.m., at the Church

Morton A. Jackson, 72, of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, Oct.
12, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Nov. 10, 1922, in Newlontown, W.Va., Upshur County, he was
a son of the late Roy C. and Etta M. (Woodard) Jackson. He was
also preceded in death by a daughter, Ellen Lee Jackson, and sister,
Myrtle Shobe.
He was a retired 27-year veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served
as sergeant fast class during the European Theatre and the Vietnam
War. He was a member of the American Legion, Mason County Post

John H. Jacobs, 68, of Gallipolis, Ohio, formerly of Weirton,
W.Va., died Friday, March 10, 1995, at his home after a long illness.
A retired vice president of Hillco Excavating Company in Fairfax,
Va., he was a former Scout Master of Troop 62 of Christ Methodist
Church, Weirton, member of Local 132B Operating Engineers, Wheeling,
W.Va., and a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Laben Charles Jacobs
and Effie (Rollins) Jacobs Knapp.

husband, William Clayton Jeffers, daughter, two sons, two sisters
and a brother.

and Anna (Blye) Brown of Syracuse, Ohio.
She was employed in the testing department at the Louisa Carpet
Mill, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Louisa.

Winston 'Tommy' Jenks; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Derek
Wallace of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sons and a daughter-in-law,

of the late John R. and Nellie (Pullins) Thomas. She was a member
of the Good Shepherd United Methodist Church at Flatrock and a
member of the American Legion Women's' Auxiliary.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Linford
Johnson; three sisters and three brothers.

and Juanita Gardner, all of Point Pleasant, and Pauline Beegle

a member of Poplar Ridge Freewill Baptist Church and a retired
custodian for Gallia Academy High School.

Columbia Elementary School for 20 years.

and a member of the Mason Homemakers Club and the West Virginia
State Farm Museum.

Born June 9, 1924, in Hartford, she was a daughter of the late
Emery and Theresa L. (Young) Gibbs. She was also preceded in death
by her husband, Hubert W. Johnson, Sr., who died in 1972; two
brothers, Carl J. and Martin J. Gibbs; two sisters, Frances N.
Reynolds and Bertha R. Prince; a grandson, Robert D. Williams,
I; great-granddaughter, Whitney R. Tucker; and special friend,
Basil Stone.
She worked for 23 years at the Mason Furniture factory and retired
from Pleasant Valley Hospital as a cook.

of Michigan; and a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Point
Pleasant.
Born September 30, 1924 in Casper, Wyoming, he was a son of the
late Alexander B. Johnson and Mary (Whistler) Johnson Hall.
He is survived by his wife, Jo A. (Knight) Johnson; a daughter
and son-in-law, Holly and Ron Siders of Point Pleasant; three
sons and daughters-in-law, Roger and Terri Johnson of Point Pleasant,

custodian with the Mason County Board of Education and a member
of the Broad Run United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Johnson;
three brothers, Ottie, Dale and Elmer Roach, and a sister, Ada

She was the owner and operator of the Cotton Basket in Point Pleasant
and was a member of the Westminster Methodist Church and attended

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leeland M. Johnson.
She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Ruie 'Ree' and
Walton Manley of Reedsville, Ohio; and three nephews.

of the Malleable Iron Company.

Born January 23, 1924 in the Arbuckle Creek area of Putnam County,
she was a daughter of the late James G. and Hattie Mae (Runion)
Tucker. She was a member of Cheshire Baptist Church.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Andy and Junior; and
two daughters, Charlotte and Barbara.
Survivors include her husband, William T. Jones; two daughters,
Loretta Blake of Middleport and Yvonne King of Gallipolis; two
sons, Denver Ash of Webster Springs, and Jay Jones of Cheshire,
Ohio; a sister, Maude Branham of Ripley; 15 grandchildren; and
several great-grandchildren.
Service will be Monday, September 18, at 2 p.m. at the Raynes
Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Rev. Herbert Buck officiating. Burial
will follow in the Tucker Cemetery, Grimms Landing. Friends may

Pearl William Jones, Jr., 68, Point Pleasant, died Monday, March
20, 1995, at his home.
Born. Sept. 1, 1926, he was a son of the late Pearl Jones, Sr.
and Beulah 'Wright' Jones. He was also preceded in death by four
sisters, Delia Stewart, Catherine Triplets, Lillian Carpenter,
and Sandra Taylor.
He was a former employee of Malleable Iron and a member of the
Church of Christ, Henderson.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Miller) Jones; son and daughter-in-law,
Bryan W. and Karla Jones, Point Pleasant; four sisters, Osie Botkin
of Vinton, Ohio, Mary Richardson of Mt. Alto, Genevia Conrad of
Gallipolis, Christine Sneed of Point Pleasant; four brothers,
Dana and Kenneth Jones, both of Point Pleasant, Clifford Jones
of Gallipolis, Charles Jones of Little Suamico, Wisc.; three grandchildren
and several nieces and nephews.

Timothy Allen Jones, 32, of Point Pleasant, WV died Tuesday morning,
October 17, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital ER, following an
automobile accident.
He was a Mate for Madison Coal and Supply Company; a former watchman
for A.E.P; and a 1992 graduate of Point Pleasant Senior High School.
Born July 21,1963 in Point Pleasant, WV, he was a son of Peggy
(Randolph) Jones of Point Pleasant, WV, and the late John Dale
Jones, Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law,
Tammy and Jack Bright of Point Pleasant, WV; four brothers and
sisters-in-law, Mike and Sharon Jones of Owensboro, KY, John and
Carolyn Jones of Letart, WV, George and Cindy Jones of Southside,
WV, and Jim and Pam Jones of Henderson, WV; five special nieces,
Michelle Bright, Becky Jones, Ashley Jones, Candace Jones and
Allie Jones; five special nephews, Michael Jones, Josh Jones,
J.D. Jones, Greg Jones and Jason Jones; three aunts; two uncles;
and several cousins.

Jordan, Everett L
Everett L. Jordan, 95, Gallipolis Ferry died Thursday, Sept. 28,
1995, at his home after a long illness.
He was a former employee of the Marietta Manufacturing Company
and a farmer, was a retired employee of the West Virginia State
Department of Natural Resources, and a member of the Point Pleasant
Gospel Tabernacle.
Born Jan. 6, 1900, in Arlee, W.Va., he was a son of the late John
and Mary Margaret (Wooten) Jordan. He was also preceded in death
by a daughter, Ruby; three brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years; Carrie (Dye) Jordan; five
daughters, Beulah Bechtle of Southside, Phyllis Bonecutter and
Jewell Durst, both of Gallipolis Ferry, Reba Marcum of Mt. Sterling,
Ohio, Helen Myers of New Haven; seven sons, Jim Jordan of Mt.
Sterling; Ohio, Harry Jordan and Ralph Jordan, both of Columbus,
Ohio, John Jordan of Tomahawk, Ky. Larry Jordan of Henderson,
Don Jordan and Wilbur Jordan, both of Gallipolis Ferry; sister,
Carrie Barkley of Columbus; 29 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren,

Sylvia E. Jordan, 69, of Cardington, Ohio, died Saturday, Oct.
21, 1995, at her home.
Born in Point Pleasant on March 22, 1926, she was a daughter of
the late Jacob S. and Inez (Camden) Gleason.
Retired in 1983 from Ohio Bell Telephone Company after 30 years
of service, she attended Sunbury Church of the Nazarene and Cardington
Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers.
Surviving are her husband of 45 years, O. Olen Jordan; two sons
and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sherry Jordan of Columbus, Gregory
Sr. and Lori Jordan of Marengo; daughter, Barbara Zlatkin of Columbus;
sister, Mrs. Manford (Evelyn) Bauer of Point Pleasant; sister-in-law,
Arlene Jordan of Point Pleasant; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Grace Caroline Juniper, 96, of Point Pleasant died Sunday, April
2, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 30, 1898 in Athens, Ohio, she was a daughter of the
late John and Mary L. (Cooley) Brown.
She was a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, a son,
two sisters and a brother.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Cochran of Cottageville
and Molly Zielke of Anaheim, CA; eight sons, Jack of Point Pleasant,
Robert of Columbus, Ohio, Ronald of Grove City, Ohio, Richard

several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Josephine A. Knopp Justice, 79, of Clifton died Friday, May 26,
1995, at her residence.
Born April 15, 1916 in Clifton, she was a daughter of the late
Harry and Maud (Stewart) VanMeter. She was a homemaker, a former
cook at Wahama High School, had worked at Lakin Hospital and the
DuPont Plant in Parkersburg. She also had a board and care home
for the elderly for many years.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Allen Knopp;
three brothers, Raymond Stewart, Lenard VanMeter, and Ralph VanMeter;
and a grandson, Chester D. Knopp, Jr.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William D. and
Darlene Knopp of Toana, VA, and Chester D. and Patricia Knopp
of Matthews, VA; a daughter, Julia A. Darst of Clifton; a brother,
William D. VanMeter of Clifton; two sisters, Lucy Johnson of Milton,
and Kathleen VanMeter of Harrisonville, Ohio; eight grandchildren
and 10 great-grandchildren.

Justis, Ray Edward
Ray Edward Justis, 47, of Kingman Road, Marietta, Ohio, a former
Meigs County resident, died Saturday, April 29, 1995 at the Veterans
Administration Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Born Aug. 30, 1947 in Salisbury Township, Meigs County, he was
the son of the late Raymond Justis and Eileen Cunningham Justis.
He was reared in the home of the late Oscar and Leona Babcock
in Tuppers Plains, Ohio.
He was a graduate of Eastern High School and served in the U.S.
Air Force, where he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal
stating that he distinguished himself by meritorious service as
a Security Policeman, Weapons Systems Security, Third Security
Police Squadron, Bien Hoa Air Base, Republic of Vietnam from November
1968 to November 1969.
He has resided in Marietta for the past 10 years where he served
as a humane officer a year before becoming a stationary engineer
at Marietta College.
On June 17, 1986, he married Kathy Rummer, who survives along
with a son, Scott Ray Justis, and a daughter, Heather Dawn Justis,
both of Coolville. Other survivors include a step-son, Rodney
Bennett and a stepdaughter, Katrinka Dawn Bennett, both of the
home.
A number of brothers and sisters, half-brothers and half-sisters
survive, including Pharis Justis of Long Bottom; Don Justis, Raymond
Justis, and Tim Justis of Hartford, W.Va.; Mary Henry of Syracuse;
Belle Slogam of Florida; June Landaker of Rutland; Joe Justis
and Harled 'George' Justis of North Carolina; and Melissa and
Barbara Ann Justis. He is also survived by his mother-in-law,
Mrs. Betty Rummer of Marietta

Kapp, George R. Sr.
George R. 'Ross' Kapp Sr., 81, of West Columbia, WV, died
Friday, July 21, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born January 4, 1914 in Evans, WV, he was a son of the late Issac
Kapp and Mabel (Hartley) Kapp. After his mother died in 1914,
he was raised by his grandparents. He was a 1932 graduate of Wahama
High School, a member of Spilman United Methodist Church and Boiler
Maker Union 667.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, whom he married March
14, 1936, Wanda N. (Knapp) Kapp; and step-mother, Flaura Kapp.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Della M. and
Merrill Waugh of Crown City, Ohio, Wanda N. Greenlee of Point
Pleasant, WV, and Leota B. and Kelsey Henry of Gallipolis Ferry,

George 'Wyatt' Kearns, 76, of Point Pleasant, died Monday, April
24, 1995, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
Born December 25, 1918 in Point Pleasant, he was a son of the
late William J. and Mary E. (Rice) Kearns.
He was a retired Mason County school bus driver with 38 years
of service, a former employee of Wilcoxen Funeral Home for 23
years, attended Bellemead United Methodist Church and was a World
War II Army veteran.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kassill W. Kearns
and Wilbur Kearns; a sister, Garnett (Kearns) Wooten; and four
infant siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Fowler) Kearns of Point
Pleasant; a daughter, Rosemary Kearns of Point Pleasant; a son
and daughter-in-law, James W. 'Jim' and Lanie Kearns of Pickerington,

Elizabeth Jane 'Betty' Keeler, 76, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday,
February 14, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Nursing Care Center.
Born August 31, 1918 in Wheeling, WV, she was the daughter of
the late Ben F. Sr. and Rose E. (Kirchgessner) Tracy.
She is survived by two brothers, Benjamin F. Tracy Jr. of Ashland,
KY and John E. Tracy of Mountain View, CA.
Private burial was held in the Lone Oak Cemetery. Arrangements

Keeling, Arthur R
Arthur R. Keeling, 64, of Henderson, died Thursday, March 2, 1995,
at the Point Pleasant Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following
a long illness.
Born June 26, 1930, in Hurricane, he was a son of the late Robert
and Emma (Johnson) Keeling. He was also preceded in death by a
sister, Opal Rountney.
He attended the Church of Christ in Henderson, and was retired
from the Ashland Oil Co.
Survivors include his wife, Norma E. (Ramey) Keeling; one son
and daughter-in-law, Charles and Christine Craft of Gallipolis
Ferry; a special friend, Jodie Zerkle; three sisters, Loriene
Keeling of St. Albans, Loretta Voeller of Minneapolis, Minn.,
Naomi Conard of Barnsville, Ohio; two brothers, Ralph Keeling

Hollis E. Kerns, 91, of Pliny, died Tuesday, May 16, 1995, at

long illness.
Born November 29, 1903, he was a son of the late Fred J. and Elizabeth
(Pauline) Kerns. He attended Mount Union United Methodist Church
in Pliny and was a retired rural mail carrier and farmer.
He was preceded in death by a son, Fred Kerns, and a daughter,
Betty Wray.

Judy Ann Killingsworth, 46, of Point Pleasant, died Sunday, May

Born June 5, 1948, in Henderson, she was a daughter of the late
George Love, Jr. and Vivian (Martin) Love Wells.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Ewington,
Ohio, and a former employee of Johnson's Supermarket, Point Pleasant.
Surviving are her husband, Howard 'Junior' Killingsworth of Point
Pleasant; two sons, Kenneth Lee Killingsworth of Point Pleasant,
David Eric Killingsworth, at home; a brother, George Love of Pliny;

Kincaid, Wayne Earl Sr
Wayne Earl Kincaid, Sr., 82, of 105 Third Street, Point Pleasant,
died Thursday, Oct. 19, 1995, at his home.
Born Sept. 29, 1913, in Point Pleasant, he was a son of the late
Emma Jane (Leport) Kincaid and Earl Wayne Kincaid. He was also
preceded in death by three sons, Wayne Earl Kincaid, Jr., Patrick
Lee Kincaid, Michael Eugene Kincaid; granddaughter, Sarah Kincaid;
and a half brother, William Stover.
A retired Point Pleasant business man, working as a butcher and
grocery store owner, he was a former member of the Point Pleasant
council. He was also a member of the American Legion, charter
member of the Loyal Order of Moose, and served with the U.S. Navy
Seabees in World War II, serving from Alaska to Japan.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Margaret (Dickens) Kincaid;
son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. and Mary Sue Kincaid of Point
Pleasant; and two daughters and sons-in-law, Emma Sue and John
P. Smith of Huntington, Janie and John Nibert of Ashton. He is
also survived by seven granddaughters, six grandsons, two step
grandsons, five great-grandchildren, two daughters-in-law, Sharon
Kincaid of Point Pleasant, Sherry McBride of Gallipolis, and one
aunt, Sybil Leport Hope of Point Pleasant.

Mary (Miller) King, 83, of Leon, died Thursday, Sept. 7, 1995,
at Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Oct. 8, 1911, in Jackson County, she was a daughter of the
late Walter and Lona (Stone) Miller. She was also preceded in
death by a son, Billy F. King, sister, Odell Church, and half
sister, Kathryn Smith.
The former owner/operator of King's Drive Inn of Leon, and King's
Grocery of Leon, she was also a former employee of Gene Ball's
restaurant in Point Pleasant. She was a member of the Smith Church
at Leon, Buffalo Senior Citizens, Smith Church Ladies Aid, and
was a former Sunday school teacher at the Leon United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include her husband, Charles J. 'Bake' King; half sister,
Juanita Townsley of Charleston; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Alice Marie Kirby, 88, of New Haven, died Friday, Oct. 27, 1995,

Born July 8, 1907, in Longdale, W.Va., she was a daughter of the
late Joseph and Ina Brown. She was also preceded in death by her
husband, Leland L. Kirby, daughter, Erma Lee Folmer, granddaughter,
Sandra Denise Dingey, two sons-in-law, Marion C. Dingey, William
E. Folmer, two sisters, Jenny Brown Morgan, Minnie Roush, and
a brother, Benjamin Brown.
She was a former employee of the Superior Porcelain plant and
member of the New Haven United Methodist Church.

Melva Stalnaker Kline, 75, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday morning,
June 6, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Unit.
She was a former dietitian of the Methodist Home in Elyria, Ohio
and at Pleasant Valley Nursing Home Dietary Department. She was
a member of the Krebs Chapel United Methodist Church in Point
Pleasant.
Born June 7, 1919, in Gay, WV, she was a daughter of the late
Lafe and Dora (Hess) Jefferies. In addition to her parents, she
was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Stalnaker and
by her second husband, Homer Kline; a daughter, Garnett Pickens;
a brother, James Jeffries; two sisters, Mary and Gertrude Jeffries;
and a grandson.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances and Robert
Westfall of Point Pleasant; two sons and daughters-in-law, Cisco
L. and Regina Stalnaker of Point Pleasant, and Ray and Sue Stalnaker
of Oak Hill, Ohio; four step-daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Joann) Darnell
of Logan, Ohio; Mrs. Harold (Sharon) Ray of Medina, Ohio, Mrs.
Mary Ray of Elyria, Ohio, and Mrs. Ronald (Cathy) Betts of Chillicothe,
Ohio; three step-sons, Samuel (Joyce) Kline of Amanda, Ohio, Richard
(Karen) Kline of Tennessee, Michael (Sherry) Kline of Chillicothe,
Ohio; three brothers, Leon Jeffries, of Harmony, WV, Donald and
Glen Jeffries both of Gay, WV; one sister, Blondena Casto of Tyler
Mountain, WV; 19 grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 22 great
grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Donald Robert 'Donnie' Knaul, 24, of Point Pleasant died Monday;
February 13, 1995, at the Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis,
Ohio.
Born August 22, 1970 in Point Pleasant he was a son of Charlotte
Jane Knaul of Point Pleasant. He was a 1989 class graduate of
Point Pleasant Senior High School.
In addition to his mother; he is survived by a grandmother, Charlotte
Rose Knaul of Point Pleasant, WV; aunts and uncles, Carol and
Rick Jarrell, Edie and Pat Legg, Belinda and Jeff Clark, all of
Point Pleasant, WV, Dottie Turner of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, and Bobby
Knaul of Moundsville, WV; a special friend, Vickie Fetty and her
children, Bethany and Jamie, all of Point Pleasant.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather; Robert A. Knaul.

Mrs. Dorothy Heck Kooken, 86, of Point Pleasant died Friday, November
10, 1995, at the home of her daughter, Gretchen Barelski.
Born August 8, 1909 in Ritchie County, she was a daughter of the
late Granville Gainer and Isabelle (Lamm) Heck.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, George Thomas Kooken.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Gretchen) Barelski
of Moravian Falls, NC and Mrs. Peter (Frances) Denike of Manning,
OR; two sisters, Bernice Lockhart of Kent, Ohio and Juanita Gray
of Ellenboro, WV; a brother, William W. Heck of Follansbee, WV;
and four grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Monday, November 13, at Trinity United
Methodist Church with Rev. Steven Dorsey and Rev. Tally Hanna

Krebs, Dorothy F
Dorothy F. Krebs, 86, of Point Pleasant died Sunday, October 1,
1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant.
She was a member of the Bellemead United Methodist Church in Point
Pleasant and had sang in the church choir for many years.
Born April 18, 1909 in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of the
late Homer Bennett Julian Fowler and Mina Francis (Rogers) Fowler.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by
three sisters, Zetha Thompson, Blanch McNeal and Helen Smith;
and one brother, Marlon R. Fowler.
She is survived by her husband, Adam Krebs; three daughters, Geneth
Krebs, Elizabeth 'Libby' Mattox, and Sharon McGraw, all of Point
Pleasant; two sons, Stanley Krebs and Allen Krebs, both of Point
Pleasant; one sister, Esther VanMeter of Point Pleasant; a brother,
Wilmer Julian Fowler of West Salem, Ohio; six grandchildren and
seven great-grandsons.

Gene Austin Lake, 64, of Mason, died Saturday, Feb. 18, 1995,
at his home, following a long illness.
Born July 5, 1930 in New Haven, he was a son of the late Lewis
Morgan and Hattie Kelsey (Clark) Lake. He was also preceded in
death by his wife, Joan (Scarberry) Lake, and a son, Darrel Lee
Lake.
He was retired from the Mason Furniture Company, and was a Protestant.
Survivors include a son, Richard Gene Lake of Mason; two sisters,
Ruth Lyons of Baker, Fla., Erma Yoho of Pomeroy; brother, Virgil
Lake of Lorraine, Ohio; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be Tuesday, 1 p.m., at the Casto Funeral Home,
Evans, with the Rev. Gerald B. Sayre officiating. Burial will

Lake, Richard Gene
Richard Gene Lake, 45, of Mason, died Friday, April 7, 1995, in
St. Mary's Hospital, Huntington.
Born Dec. 18, 1949, in Mason, he was a son of the late Gene Austin
and Joan (Scarberry) Lake. He was also preceded in death by a
brother, Darrell.
A U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam, he was a truck driver for Cal-Ark
Co.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lake of Mason; several aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews.
There will be no service or calling hours. Burial will be at the
convenience of the family in the Blaine Memorial Cemetery, Cottageville.

Jerry T. Lambert, 72, of 206 Brandywine Road, Savannah, GA, died
Friday, Feb. 3, 1995, at Veteran's Memorial Hospital in Charleston,
S.C. Born in Radford, Va., he was a retired veteran of the U.S.
Air Force, with 23 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Louise Roush, a former resident
of Letart; daughter, Billy Catharine of Huntsville, Ala.; three
sons, Douglas of Burke, Va., Dennis and Philip, both of Georgia;
five grandchildren; and local brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law,
Jack and Joy Roush, Elmer and Catherine Newberry, Letart, Dennis
and Irene Roush, Rt. 2, Point Pleasant, and Mrs. John Roush, Pomeroy,
Ohio.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 5, in Savannah.

Mrs. Rilla D. Lambert, 94, of Ona, WV, died Wednesday, June 21,
1995, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington.
Born November 21, 1900 in Gallipolis Ferry, she was a daughter
of the late Sherman F. and Vesta (Donnally) Duncan. She was a
retired school teacher with the Mason County School System and
a member of the Tri-State Baptist Church, South Point, Ohio.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lambert;
and two daughters, Cleo Pike and Maxine Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Merritt of Lake Worth,
FL; a granddaughter and her husband with whom she made her home,
Judy and Buddy Wren of Ona; two additional grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a brother and
sister-in-law, Leland and Margaret Duncan of Seebring, FL; and
many nieces and nephews.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at Chapman's Mortuary

David Lee Lanham, 54, of Point Pleasant died Monday, October 9,
1995, in Lebanon, Ohio.
Survivors include his wife, Delores J. Lanham of Point Pleasant;

Services were held Friday, October 13, in London, Ohio.
Latanzio, Lillian Viola
Lillian 'Lil' Viola Latanzio of Point Pleasant died Wednesday
morning, Oct. 25, 1995, at Ohio State University Medical Center
in Columbus, Ohio.
'Lil' was a resident of Point Pleasant since 1949 and was preceded
in death by her husband, Arthur 'Al' Latanzio in April of 1974.
She was born in Canto, Ohio to Gregorio and Filomena (Biaselli)
Dovidio, and was the last surviving member of their nine children.
'Lil' is survived by her daughter, Maria Dillman of Dayton, Ohio,
and sons Dick (Debbie) Latanzio of Owensboro, Ky., and Michael
Latanzio of Point Pleasant, W.Va., and grandchildren Deanna, Rick
and Andrea Latanzio. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews
in the Canton, Ohio area and one sister-in-law, Susie Dovidio
of Canton, Ohio.
'Lil' was a long-time and faithful member of the Sacred Heart
Catholic Church and over the years was active in church clubs
and activities.
Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27,
1995, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, in Point Pleasant, where
a Scripture Wake Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian
Burial will be Saturday, Oct. 28, 1995, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred
Heart Catholic Church, 2222 Jackson Avenue, Point Pleasant, with
Father Melvin Averman officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland
Memorial Gardens. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers,

name. She will be sadly missed by her children and all who loved

Ronald Ray Lathey, 48, of Point Pleasant, died Saturday, Jan.

He was an employee of the Ace High Music Company in Point Pleasant,

He was a retired employee of Ravenswood Aluminum, a U.S. Army

in Point Pleasant and a graduate of Ripley High School.
Born March 5, 1926 in Sebring, Ohio, he was a son of the late
Oris R. and Lucy H. (Thornton) Lathey.
He is survived by his wife, Rosa (Stover) Lathey; a daughter and
son-in-law Wilma and Scotty McDermitt of Point Pleasant; a grandson,
Daniel Rife of Point Pleasant; a step-granddaughter; a brother,
Eugene Rowley of Dunbar; and a sister, Genevieve Carney of Ripley.

Audrey Morrison Blaine Leconey, 88, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died
in a hospital there on Friday, March 3, 1995.
A native of Mason County, she was born at Hickory Chapel, Rt.
2, Point Pleasant, Nov. 2, 1906, a daughter of the late Frank
A. and Lucy (Warner) Morrison.
Surviving are two sisters, Leota Taylor, Point Pleasant, Freda
Miller, Crown City, Ohio; and two brothers, Ercell Morrison of
Carey, N.C., and James Morrison, Akron, Ohio.
The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 8, 1 p.m., in Akron,
with Rev. Larry Morrison, nephew of the deceased, officiating.

Lee, Forest Willard
Forest Willard Lee, 73, Pomeroy, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995,
at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Chillicothe.
Born in Mason, W.Va., son of the late Benjamin and Ivy Bell Henry
Lee, he was a sheet metal worker and an Army veteran of World
War II. In addition, he was a lifetime member of the Disabled
American Veterans, VFW Post 9926 of Mason and the American Legion
Post 0140 of New Haven, W.Va.
He was also a little league umpire and coach in Glouster and Pomeroy
and a sponsor and coach of the Harrisonville Dodgers.
Surviving is a son and daughter-in-law, Forest Alan and Judy Lee
of Pomeroy; two daughters and a son-in-law, Melody A. Turley of
Glouster, and Vanessa and Jerry Runyon of Pomeroy; 14 grandchildren;
one great grandchild and a brother, Lee Walker of Gallipolis Ferry,
W.Va.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy Walker, and four sisters,
Mamie Cook, Lena Criner, Raye Maze and Gladys Adkins.

He was a retired trackman from NYC Railroad with 30 years of service;

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Ivy (Bias)

in death by her husband, Henry Reese 'Dock' Logan, who died March
7, 1982, and a brother, Woodrow W. King.
She was a homemaker and member of the Hickory Chapel United Methodist
Church.

late Pearl Hayman and Stella Belle (Harmon) Hayman. She was also

Long, Fred Nute
Fred Nute Long, 72, of Apple Grove, WV passed away Saturday morning,
July 29, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant,
WV.
Born September 28, 1922 in Apple Grove, WV he was a son of the
late William and Louella (Bright) Long.
He was retired from the American Car Foundry in Huntington, WV;
a member of Barton Chapel Church, a World War II Army veteran
who received a Purple Heart; and a member of AARP.
He was also preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Mae (Holley) Long of Apple Grove,
WV; a daughter, Kathy Darlene Long Whittington of Apple Grove,
WV; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry William and Angela (Barton)
Long of Apple Grove, WV; two grandsons, Chad Eric Long and Matthew
Paul Long, both of Apple Grove, WV; two step-grandsons; and several
nieces and nephews.
Service will be Tuesday, August 1, 1995, at 1 p.m. at Barton Chapel
Church with Rev. Marlin Campbell and Rev. Jerry Ranson officiating.
Burial will follow in Barton Chapel Cemetery, Apple Grove, WV.

Long, John Sherman Jr
John Sherman Long, Jr., 67, of Point Pleasant, WV died Thursday
morning, February 2, 1995, at Charleston Area Medical Center General
Division, in Charleston, WV.
He was a retired Project Maintenance Foreman of Kaiser Aluminum
in Ravenswood, WV and had also retired from the Point Pleasant
Hardware Store. He was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church,
Point Pleasant, WV.
Born April 16, 1927, in Charleston, WV, he was a son of the late
John S. Long Sr. and the late Ida (Ballengee) Long.
He is survived by his wife, Doris (Humphreys) Long; four daughters
and sons-in-law, Lydia and Merrill Davis of Gallipolis, Ohio,
Karen and David Jackson, Debra and John Bryant and Ellen and Ralph
Greenlee, all of Point Pleasant, WV; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Glenn and Linda Long and Clemit and Brenda Long, all of Point
Pleasant, WV; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James Long of
Charleston, WV, Samuel and Freda Long of Point Pleasant, and William
and Madge Long of Youngs Bottom, WV; two sisters and brother-in-law,
Margaret Long Carney, of Seth, WV and Mary and Stanley Morgan
of Daytona, Florida; 12 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 4,
1995, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, WV with
Rev. Leroy Kenney officiating. Burial will follow in Kirkland
Memorial Gardens, Point Pleasant.
Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home Friday, February
3, 1995, from 2 to 4 p.m. and also from 6 until 9 p.m.
Loomis, Harold E
Harold E. 'Mamy' Loomis, 73, of Point Pleasant died Tuesday, October
17, 1995, at Pleasant Valley Hospital in Point Pleasant.
Born February 4, 1922 in Point Pleasant, he was a son of the late
Joseph and Nora (Fruth) Loomis. He was a retired deckhand of the
Union Barge Line.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Elmer 'Jack' Loomis.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl W. 'Bill'
and Shirley Loomis and James R. 'Buck' and Nancy Loomis, all of
Point Pleasant; three sisters, Helen 'Sis' Redman of Cross Lanes,
Mary Edwards of Charleston, and Reba Jacobs of Indianapolis, IN;
two brothers, Roy Loomis of Charleston and Carl J. Loomis of Syracuse,
Ohio; six granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 19, at Crow-Hussell
Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Rev. Louis A. Hussell officiating.
Burial will follow in Kirkland Memorial Gardens. Visiting hours
will be Wednesday from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Love, Oran P. Jr
Oran P. Love, Jr., 69, of Grove City, Ohio, formerly of Hartford,
died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 1995.
A son of the late Oran P Love, Sr. and Edith (Eads) Markins, he
owned and operated the RiverView Dairy Farm when he resided in
Hartford. He was also preceded in death by infant daughters Sheila
and Millie, and a brother, James E. Love.
Local residents surviving, in addition to his family in Grove
City, include a son and daughter-in-law, Preston E. and Arlene
Love; daughter and son-in-law, Danny and Sally Roush; sister,
Beverly Ridenour; three grandchildren, a great-grandson, two nieces
and a great-niece.
Funeral arrangements will be made by the Schoedinger Funeral Home
in Grove City, with burial to take place there.
Love, William Wyatt
William Wyatt Love, 87, of Gallipolis, Ohio and formerly of Point
Pleasant, died Wednesday, February 1, 1995, at Holzer Medical
Center in Gallipolis.
He was a retired janitor for the Mason County Board of Education
and a former employee of the WV State Road Commission. He was
a member of the WV Association of Retired School Employees.
Born April 14, 1907 in Winfield, WV, he was a son of the late
Hida Marion and Elizabeth (Mulford) Love. In addition to his parents,
he was also preceded in death by his wife, Cora Katherine (Gardner)
Love; a son, Kenneth 'Kenny' Love; three brothers, Wayne H. Love,
Delbert Love and George Love; and one sister, Nora Baker.
He is survived by a son, Charles M. 'Birdie' Love of Cheshire,
Ohio; a daughter, Elizabeth 'Libby' Sigman of Liberty, WV; two
sisters, Sylvia Hussell and Goldie Wilcoxen, both of Point Pleasant;
six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 4,
at Crow-Hussell Funeral Home, Point Pleasant, with Rev. Louis
A. Hussell officiating. Burial will follow in Suncrest Cemetery,
Point Pleasant. Visiting hours will be held at the funeral home
Friday from 6-9 p.m.
Lovejoy, James W
James W. Lovejoy, 71, of Redmond Ridge, Gallipolis Ferry, died
Wednesday, May 10, 1995, at his home after a long illness.
Born May 9, 1924, in Charleston, he was a son of the late Ira
and Ethel (Jones) Lovejoy.
He was the owner of Jim's Cafe in Point Pleasant, and a Navy veteran
of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Reba (Shelines) Lovejoy; children, sisters
and grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at the family's convenience
and there will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations
may be made to the Mason County Homeless Shelter. Arrangements
are under the direction of the Wilcoxen Funeral Home.
Lowe, Betty Lou
Betty Lou Lowe, 64, died early Wednesday morning, March 29, 1995,
in St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, WV.
Born August 21, 1930 in Point Pleasant, eldest daughter of Hobart
C. and Dorothy Marie (Johnson) Myers. She was preceded in death
by both parents.
Survivors include husband, Eddie E. Lowe of Point Pleasant; brother,
Jackie Lee Myers of California; sister, Nancy Corolyn Woder of
Nevada; and brother, Bruce Michaels of West Virginia; their spouses,
children and grandchildren. She is also survived by many aunts,
uncles and cousins in the Point Pleasant area.
Betty and Eddie recently moved back to Point Pleasant after 44
years to spend their retirement years close to family and friends.
In accordance with Betty's wishes, she will be cremated and no
memorial service will be held. Eddie will receive family and friends
between 2-5 p.m. on Friday, March 31, in their home on Route 2
North, Point Pleasant. No flowers please.
Lowe, Maxine
Maxine Sayre Lowe, 75, of Point Pleasant, died Tuesday, Nov. 28,
1995, at St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, following a short
illness.
She was employed at Pleasant Valley Hospital for more than two
decades, and was the director of the medical records department
when she retired in 1986.
Born Dec. 9, 1919, in Point Pleasant, she was a daughter of May
(Chattin) Sayre of Houston, Texas, and the late Everett H. Sayre.
She was also preceded in death by a son, John Randy Lowe, and
a twin brother, Glenn Maxwell Sayre.
Survivors include a daughter, Camille Lowe McNeill of Point Pleasant;
three sons, Stephen Maxwell Lowe of Houston, Texas, Robert Sayre
Lowe of Willingboro, N.J., and Jeffrey Allen Lowe of Morgantown;
eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday, 2 p.m., at the Crow-Hussell Funeral
Home with the Rev. Louis A. Hussell officiating. Graveside rites
and burial will be in the Lone Oak Cemetery, Point Pleasant.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday, 7 to 9 p.m., and
one hour prior to the funeral service.
Lutton, Samuel Lewis
Samuel Lewis Lutton, 88, of Point Pleasant died Friday, February
3, 1995, at the Holzer Medical Center, Gallipolis, Ohio.
He was a retired carpenter in the construction business and was
a draftsman, for over 30 years with the Marietta Manufacturing
Company in Point Pleasant. He was a member of the Good Shepherd
United Methodist Church at Flatrock.
Born March 27, 1906 in Point Pleasant, he was a son of the late
Samuel F. and Ella Jane (Selby) Lutton. In addition to his parents,
he was also preceded in death by a son, Robert Samuel Lutton;
four brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by, his wife, Freda Mae (Kincade) Lutton; a son,
Lewis E. Lutton of Gallipolis, Ohio; three daughters, Sally Lou
Workman, Nancy Jane Bowser, and Ida Mae Milstead, all of Point
Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and seven step-great-grandchildren.
Service was held at 1 p.m. Monday, at the Crow-Hussell Funeral
Home in Point Pleasant, with Rev. Paul Suder and Rev. John Icenhower
officiating. Burial followed in Lone Oak Cemetery, Point Pleasant.
Lynch, Mae
Mae Tyler Lynch, 88, Middleport; Ohio, died Thursday, July 13,
1995 in Pleasant Valley Hospital.
Born Nov. 27, 1906 in Ohio, the daughter of the late Albert and
Rena Goeff Tyler, she was a homemaker and worked for several years
cleaning homes. She was a member of the First Southern Baptist
Church and the Meigs County Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Jenkins of Springfield,
Ohio; daughter-in-law, Delores Lynch Surface of Middleport; granddaughter,
Diana Johnson of Letart; grandson, Keith Lynch of Middleport;
and five great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy E. Lynch; son, Robert
Lynch; and brother, Albert Tyler.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Fisher Funeral Home, Middleport,
with the Rev. Lamar O'Bryant officiating. Burial will follow in
the Miles Cemetery, Rutland, Ohio. Friends may call between 7-9
tonight at the funeral home.
Lyons, Claris R
Claris R. Lyons, 77, of Henderson, died Sunday, March 26, 1995,
at Holzer Medical Center.
Born July 23, 1917 in Mason County, he was a son of the late Ray
and Grace (Wolfe) Lyons. He was a Navy veteran, from 1937-1940
he was a member of the three C's, was active during World War
II, a member of the V.F.W. and retired from the General Service
Administration with 33 years service as a federal police officer.
He was also preceded in death by parents who raised him, Hazel
and Glen Moss; and a brother, Clarence R. Lyons.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Don Smith
of Point Pleasant; three sons and daughters-in-law, Charles R.
Lyons of Delaware, Ohio, Clarence 'Buddy' and Monica Lyons of
Delaware, Ohio and John and Vanessa Lyons of Point Pleasant; two
sisters, Mrs. John (Ruth) Hayman of Point Pleasant and Lennie
Johnson of Charleston; and nine grandchildren.
Service will be Wednesday, March 29, at 1 p.m. at Wilcoxen Funeral
Home, Point Pleasant, with Minister Johnny Hayman officiating.
Burial will follow at the Lone Oak Cemetery. American Legion Post
23 will conduct military graveside service. Friends may call
at the funeral home Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.
