Gilbert B. Amos was born in Virginia November 11, 1819, died at the home of his daughter, S.F. Ramsey, Tuesday, Sept 17, 1901. He moved with his parents from eastern Virginia to the western part of the state, now called West Virginia, when he was small child, locating in Mason County, residing there until he married Miss Caroline Knapp, April 14, 1842. After residing some years after his marriage in Virginia, he moved to Ohio where he lived until the fall of 1852, when he moved to Iowa, landing in Keokuk, but the next year located a farm in Monroe county, residing there until 1868, when he sold out and moved his family to Wayne County where they lived until the spring of 1877, when they moved to Garden Grove, where his home has been ever since. His wife died last November. He leaves eight children to mourn his departure, three in Iowa and five in Montana, besides a large number of grandchildren.

When but a boy he was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal Church, and has ever since lived a consistent Christian life. He has always enjoyed the respect, esteem and confidence of all who knew him. Although nearly 82 years of age, and quite feeble in body, his mental faculties seems to retain their old time vigor. He was always a great reader until his eyesight failed him about two years ago. He kept thoroughly posted in the current events of the day, especially the political news. He was an ardent republican, having voted with that party ever since the beginning of the civil war. In his death, the state has lost a worthy citizen, the church a worthy member, and his children a kind and affectionate father. The funeral was held at Pleasantville on Wednesday at the Methodist church. His body was brought from thence here and the burial took place the same evening.
