Message from Judith Ann Ross, explaining the BENKO family burials. Feb 10, 2002 ------------------------------------------------------------------ George and Ksnia Benko were my grandparents. I see where there is listed in their plot a Powell Benko born in 1851 died 1922. I believe that should be Pauvel (Russian for Paul). He was born in July 2, 1922 and died December 1922. My grandfather made the marker for his grave out of wood. My mother remembered when her baby brother died and her father carving the marker. Also buried in their plot is Ksnia's daughter by her first marriage. Helen Matechek (Benko). Her married name may have been Decker. There is no headstone for her. Also I was told that a boarder of the Benkos was buried there too without a headstone. He was killed in a mine explosion maybe in the late 1920's or early 1930's. His first name I believe was Fyador. This information was given to me by my mother. I have never heard of a Powell Benko and I don't understand the birth date in the 1800's. Thank you. Sincerely, Judith Ann Ross judiannross@ntelos.net
