Maxvill JOHNSON, born in Cabell county, and Mary Adkins, born in the same county,
were there united in marriage, July 15, 1855. He was a son of Merrit and Rhoda (Adkins) Johnson, who came to
Lincoln county in 18~2. Price and Ehiza (Crameans) Adkins were her parents, and they lived for sometime in
Mason county, West Virginia. Her father died August 14, 1874, and her mother’s death occurred February 22, 1880.
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson have no children but an adopted daughter, Luella S. Parsons. They came to Lincoln county
in 1867, and Mr. Johnson sold goods twelve years. He was elected sheriff in the year of his settlement here,
and rode four years. He is now very extensively engaged in farming, and owns about 1,300 acres of land where
he lives in Sheridan district, 300 acres under cultivation, with good orchard, buildings, etc. The remainder
is well timbered and underlaid with minerals. His postoffice address is Hamlin, Lincoln county, West Virginia.
