Below is a list of some of the cemeteries, past and present,
located in Jefferson County.
Transcriptions and some directions have been contributed by the individuals listed
in the existing links. Other directions have been compiled based on the information available through the United
States Geological Survey, U.S. Department of the Interior.

Some links have been added to an external website where there are maps of cemetery locations. These pages
are sometimes slow to load and there are no transcriptions on them. They are being provided, however, to give
researchers a better idea of cemetery locations and their accuracy cannot be autheticated.
- Allstadt
Cemetery, Allstadt Hill Road, Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne Braun, 2003. "From Harpers
Ferry, go west on Highway 340 until you hit Bakerton Road. Turn South on Bakerton Road and go 0.5 miles until
you see a road with a dead end sign, turn there and go up the road about 0.25 miles. The cemetery is on the
left side of the road with an old decaying wall surrounding it. A small neglected cemetery. There is a lot of
overgrowth of vegetation along with fallen and faded headstones. The first burial took place in thw 1820's
with the last burial taken place in 1878. — Anne Braun
- Bolivar Cemetery, Bolivar, West Virginia (Lat: 39º19'43"N, Long: 77º45'08"W). Note: Further research
revealed two Bolivar cemeteries, neither one at this latitude and longitude, though one is close in the community
of Bolivar. See this site for a map of the

the location of Bolivar Cemetery in Charles Town. The sites are sometimes slow in responding and there are no transcriptions
at these sites. They are being provided only for reference.
- Chapline Family Burial Ground, Shepherdstown, West Virginia — Located
on private property in Steamboat Run, West Virginia.
- Chestnut Hill Cemetery, east of Charles Town, south of Bolivar, West Virginia (Lat: 39º16'16"N,

- Elk Branch
Cemetery, Luther John & Flowing Springs Road, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne
Braun, Jul 16, 2003. "From Shepherdstown, from the intersection of State Road 230 and Flowing Springs Road,
go south 3 miles on Flowing Springs Road until you see two churches on the west side of the road. This is a
small Presbyterian Church cemetery that is well taken care of. The earliest burials taken place in the late
1830's/early 1840's with the last burial taking place in 1978. Some of the headstones are worn and faded so
I have a hard time reading them." — Anne Braun

Cemetery, Highway 9, Kearneysville, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne Braun, Jun 08, 2003. "From Kearneysville
WV, go 1 mile south on Highway 9. There is a Baptist Church and their cemetery next to this cemetery. It is
on the northwest corner of the intersection. The cemetery has a fence around it. This is a small cemetery
which appears to be a family cemetery. I do not know who the owners are." — Anne Braun

- Johnson
Cemetery, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Transcribed 1970s by Dale MORROW. In Shepherdstown, West
Virginia, proceed from the four-way stop of Rt. 45 and 48, east toward the Potomac River (300-400 yards),
turning left on to Jefferson Co. Rt. 5, proceed 1.6 miles to fork in road, take right fork on to
Jefferson Co. Rt. 7, proceed 1.3 miles, turn right on to Terrapin Neck Road (was gravelroad).
The cemetery is approximately one and one half miles on the right.

- Kearneysville
Presbyterian Cemetery, Hwy 480 and Hwy 9, Kearneysville, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne Braun, May 25,
2003. "The cemetery is at the southwest corner of the intersection of Highways 9 and 480. The cemetery is
across the street from the Sheetz Gas Station and Store. A small well kept church cemtery which dates back
to the late 1870's. The last burial took place in 1983." — Anne Braun.

Cemetery, Rte 28 & Morning Calm Lane, Bakerton, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne Braun, November 30,
2002. "From Bakerton, go 1 mile south on Bakerton Road until you reach Route 28, turn on to it and go west 1
mile until you hit Morning Calm Lane and the cemetery is on the southwest corner of the intersectin. A small
family cemetery. The Moler's got a land grant back in the mid 1700's. They had a farm there. Today, the
descendants of the Moler Family takes care of the little cemetery." — Anne Braun

Lutheran Cemetery, Uvilla Road and Highway 230, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne Braun,
2003. "From Harper's Ferry, go west on Highway 340 for 2 miles until you hit Highway 230. Turn there and go
north about 4.5. The cemetery is on the north side of the road next to the intersection of Highway 230 and
Uvilla Road. This is an old Lutheran Church and Cemetery. It is still well kept and has a lot of old
headstones in it. — Anne Braun.

- Trinity
Episcopal Cemetery, 101 Church Street, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Transcribed by Anne Braun, Mar 16 2003.
"In Shepherdstown, from the intersection of highways 480 and 45, go one block east on Highway 45 until you
reach Church Street. Turn on Church Street and go north one block. The cemetery is on the east side of the
street next to the church on the corner of Church and East High. This is an old church cemetery dating back
to the mid 1700's. The church was formed back about 1769. It has changed hands for many years, once being a
military hospital during the Civil War. The cemetery is taken care of; however, because of the age of the
headsrones, it was very hard to read some of them. I read the headstones the best that I could. The last
burial took place in 1978." — Anne Braun.

From Harpers Ferry, go 2 miles west on US Highway 340 until you reach State Highway 230, turn and go north about 4 miles until you reach Route 17. The cemetery is on the northwest corner of State Highway 230 and Route 17.
"This is a small cemetery that at one time served the small town of Uvilla. The cemetery is well taken care

Methodist Cemetery, Uvilla Road and Highway 230, Box 68, Shepherdstown, West Virginia. Transcribed by
Anne Braun, May 2003. "From Harpers Ferry go west 2 miles on Highway 340 until you get to Highway 230 turn
and go north about 4.3 miles. The cemetery is on the west side of the road about 0.25 miles south of the
intersection of Uvilla Road and Highway 230. The church was built in 1856 with the cemetery being formed in
the 1860's. It is a small, well kept cemetery which is still active."
