This census was taken by Clifton and Lila Funkhouser in 1979. They
recorded many Hardy County cemeteries and generously wanted their
work made available to the public; therefore, they gave a copy to the
Hardy County Public Library. It is reproduced here with permission
from the Library.
George W. Smith (Rattler) died March 11, 1899 aged 70 years 11 months and 13
days. He was buried on the hill to the left of the M.A. Evans home
which is now occupied by Wayne and Overton Evans (in 1979). A fence
was put around this gravesite in 1979. The fence was a part taken from the old Queen City Hotel
(Bed and Breakfast) in Cumberland, Maryland.
