I am searching for any information on the Coleman family of Dempsey,
Fayette County, VA (WV). My great great grandparents were John J.
and Isabella Carnifax Coleman. After the Civil War, John J. purchased
a large amount of land in the Dempsey/Laurel Creek area of Fayetteville.
He sold off all but 10,000 acres which he and his son, John B.,
farmed until the death of John J. in 1870. Isabella remained on
the property until her death in 1904. John J. was at one time the
prosecuting attorney for Fayette and Raleigh Counties. He and Isabella
had 10 children: Hallie, Sarah, Martha, Henry S., William Willis,
Mary A., George B., James P., John B., and Elizabeth. Anyone who
may have come across this family during their search, or perhaps
you belong to this clan, please contact me with what you know. I
will share what I have with you. One thing that I am interested
in is the name of John J.'s parents. I have somewhat of a clue,
