DeMOSS - McCREA - PHILLIPS
It's been several years since I hit this brick wall on this
family, so I thought I would try again. In 1850 census of Barbour County
appears Benjamin and Jeminia PHILLIPS, 26, with 3 sons, Robert (3), William
(2), Alpheus (1). He and she are born in Virginia, which could be WVa also
in 1850.
There are 32 other PHILLIPS families in Barbour at the same time.
Several are old enough to be his parents: Absalom (51), Abraham
(49), Benjamin (44), Eli (56), George (48), Isaac (46), Jesse (62), John
(54), Joseph (51), (2) Thomas (67), (50), William (74)
Can anyone help me connect Benjamin to any of these families or another ?
Can anyone find a marriage for Benjamin and Jeminia ? Guessing around
1845-1847. Would appreciate any help.

Does anyone have any information about Erasmus Smith DADISMAN,
born in Taylor County 1856, but lived until about 1888 in Barbour County. He
left after an altercation in which he was threatened with arrest. Reportedly
went West. Reportedly died in Colorado in 1940. He left a girlfriend behind
and may have written to her. Perhaps asked her to join him. He was brother
to Jefferson Davis DADISMAN (1860-1942) (my grandfather) who reputedly knew
where he went. Perhaps someone knows of a female relative who left about
that time to go West.

SAGER - SAYGER
My great grandfather was Adam SAGER Jr. and he shows in the 1850 Barbour
County census as Adam SAYGER (sp) District 5 page 47a in the household of E.
Paul CLEM. Adam works as a farmer.
In the 1860 census he shows on page 150 as Adam age 41 with a wife Mary C.
23 and 2 children.
Adam was originally from Shenandoah Co.
I have contacted the Co. Clerk of Barbour but they were of no help.
My problem is my Great grandmother "Mary C."
She was probably born around 1837/38 in Barbour Co. (I think from other
records) I can find no record of her marriage to Adam Jr. Probably in the
1855-57 range due to her age and the fact they had a 2 yr. old in the 1860
census. I CANNOT LOCATE HER MAIDEN NAME.
All I can do is ask for any help you might be able to give me to solve this
question or any ideas on where else I can go. I have been on this for 2 years. Sincerely, Don

REED - SIMPSON - TOWNSEND
Still seeking info on the SIMPSON family of Barbour and Preston Cos of
present day WV. William Luther SIMPSON b1829 m Sarah Jane REED b1837 about

Then, William and Sarah's son Samuel Henry SIMPSON b1875 m Julia A. TOWNSEND
in 1895 in Barbour Co, WV.
There was a John SIMPSON who married Keziah Moore and died in Barbour Co in

This John SIMPSON's father appears to have been a John SIMPSON who married a

RAINES - THOMPSON - WYATT
Verified information needed about David THOMPSON's ancestry. Documents show
James, John, and Jacob as the father from Pendleton County. It has become
clearer that John was his father, but clear source documentation is in
dispute. It is unclear whether father came to Barbour County with his son
David. If so, we are searching to discover where he is buried.
David THOMPSON is buried in the Jerusalem Cemetary with wife, Mary A.
(WYATT) THOMPSON. The date of migration is unknown but must be after 1804
(probably in the 1820's) since David's birth was in Orange County, Virginia.
David's mother was Millie RAINES. The family spent some time in Pendleton
County where records of the family are few.

Thank you, Steve Cockrell ( slcockrell@aol.com ) End of Inquiry
I have Sarah SLUSS in my family records as marrying Benjamin ROW in 1867.
Also, my grandmother said that Sarah had two children, Noah & Andrew. In the

four children, ages 8 to 1 (Noah). This raises a question: What

Was lil' Andrew born after the 1850 Census?

I am researching the POLING family, Elizabeth POLING was my ggg grandmother and she was
on the 1850 Census of Barbour Co. 494/494 along with George 4 and John H. 6 months old at
the time and another brother Peter who was not living with them at the time of the 1850 Census
but staying with a Margaret and Reban HEBB of Barbour Co. W. V. She Remarried in 1857,
May 19 in Taylor Co. WV to a Thomas DICKSON of Hartford Co, Md. Her maiden name was
Elizabeth LOMAS and she was from Rockingham Co Va her parents' names: Peter and Elizabeth
LOMAS. All 3 children were living with her and Thomas DICKSON in the 1860 Census of
Taylor Co Wv in Prunneytown. She and Peter may have been married in Rockingham Va but I
Don"t know where at this time. Her Husband died in 1849 just before the 1850 Census of
Barbour Co, Wv. Where I Need help now is to find a Record of Guardianship to Elizabeth
POLING for George POLING 4 Years Old in 1850 in Barbour Co, Wv . She would need to have
that since her husband died and left her with the children, the Guardianship Papers should have
Peter POLINGs name listed as her deceased husband.
Thank You

HALL
I am seeking information on Martin E. HALL born probably 1796 in Virginia,
he was later to own considerable property in the Oral Lake area of Harrison,
both sons David L. and Oscar lived in Harrison, and Martin E. was living
with David L., Sycamore Dale, West Milford, in 1880. I assume he died
before the next census in 1890.

GRIFFITH
I am trying to track down the genealogy of the Griffith family in Barbour County. My
grandfather was James Walker Griffith. He lived with my grandmother near Mt Liberty. He died
of cancer in 1932??. They had four sons and one daughter. One son, my father, is Adron Griffith.
He is 95 and going strong. His brother Brooks and sister Gertrude are still living. There is not a
great deal of memory regarding family history in my father's family. Any help you could render
would be greatly appreciated.
I am Dr. James Howard Griffith. I was named by my grandmother after her youngest son, James
Howard Griffith, who was killed in an auto accident when he was 19.
Thank you for your attention. J. Howard Griffith
