Roger Talbot 20 December 2019
TALBOT

My name is Roger Talbot and I am a direct descendant of Richard Talbot who some sources name as the first settler in Barbour County.

Proposal: I am aware that there is a monument to the Talbots of Barbour County. I would like the following:
Digital photo of the monument, showing its full height, with a person standing next to it for context
Digital photos of all etchings on the monument
Crayon rubbings of all etched surfaces of the monument (I suggest crayon since the rubbings will be folded and mailed and I worry a charcoal rubbing may become illegible but I am open to other suggestions)
A Google Map printout showing the location of the monument, preferably with GPS co-ordinates
I will pay $150 for the provision of all of the above, payable by: Personal check; or Bank-to-bank transfer of funds; or Western Union; or Amazon gift card; or Any other feasible method (I am limited in methods because I am paying from outside the US) Please contact me in advance before starting on this project so we can co-ordinate activities. Contact me at: talbotroger@yahoo.com

CURKENDALL - PAYNE

Hello,I am hoping you can assist me or point me in a direction of someone who can. I am attempting to locate the burial locations for Marvin Stanford Curkendall and his wife Bessie (Payne). With information I located online (Family Search), it appears he was born 1-6-1900 and married Bessie 6-12-1918. Social Security Index shows him as passing May 1978 but shows possible West Virginia or North Carolina. But lists Volga, Barbour County as death location. It appears Bessie May (Payne) was born 6/3/1902 in Roane County. Social Security Index appears she passed 2-2-1988.Their son Deward lived here in Ohio and passed this year. I am trying to tie the family together. I am not sure if there are some obituaries housed at one of the libraries that might be of assistance or not. Any  help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, Kathleen

The Males of Barbour County, West Virginia

I am interested in the book The Males of Barbour County, West Virginia by Bernard Mayle referred to on the Barbour County Genealogy web site. However when I sent an email to the contact on this web page it comes back to me "undeliverable." The reference contact is Bill Doyle with his email address. I was wondering if you could put me in contact with Mr. Doyle or how I could get a copy of the book. Any help would be appreciated.

RIDER

My great grandmother Laura Rider, wife of Philip Rider moved to Weaver, Barbour County in the early 1890's. She died at the Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum. The only death record I can find is through the Asylum. I am looking for a death certificate for her. She is listed as dying July 19, 1900 and is buried in the Corley/Hillyard cemetery there in Junior, WV. She was just 35 years old. Thank you.

OATS - REED

Hello my name is William Jethro Reed and I was wondering if you could help me with a few questions I had about my family history?

I've been trying to figure out if my family's old lumber mill and country store still stands somewhere near Needmore WV or if it has been knocked down. My father's name was William Arno Reed, his father was Arno Marcellus Reed, and Arno's parents were Benjamin Franklin Reed and Mary Elizabeth Oats. The last record of anybody living near there is Arno's sister, Essey Reed. I am not sure if she lived in the old farm house or just near there. There is a picture of myself as a baby (I am 21 years old) with Essey in West Virginia but unfortunately I do not have any living family to tell me the details. Can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks for your time!

William J Reed

I am searching for information about my great grandmother, Mitta Kennedy, who was married to Alexander Parsons.  I am trying to figure out her family and who they are.  I believe they were Mulatto and might have been “Chestnut Ridge” people. I am also looking for Alexander as well.  Any help would be most appreciated.

MARTIN - PAUGH

My 4th great grandfather is Jonas Martin (1806-1861). He and his wife, Mariah Paugh, were from Lewis County, West Virginia (modern day Upshur County). I believe Jonas to be descended from Joel Martin (1750-1781) through their son Stephen. I was wondering if there was any way you could help me to pinpoint whether this is the case.  Jonas died before Stephen and his brother Joel, so it is possible he would not be in their wills if he is a relation.  If you have any idea on this, I would appreciate any help I can get.
Best, Stephanie Norfolk

Point Pleasant School

I am attempting to obtain a picture or a copy for my boyfriend of the old Point Pleasant school building located in Barbour County WV.  It is located along Point Pleasant Road between Belington and Phillippi. I have recently viewed the school which has partially collapsed but part is still standing.
Thank you, Robin Ritter
