I'm trying to locate a cemetery in Pecks Run, Upshur Co. I'm assuming that
it's a small place and probably only one or two cemeteries there. Do you
know the name of any cemetery in that area?
I have one person said to be buried at Peck's Run, Olive Fitzgerald, born ?,
died Aug. 2, 1898). Actually, her husband Benjamin (c1838 - ?) might also
be buried there. I'm just looking for confirmation that they are there and dates if a headstone
is present.
Thanks - Jack

McBEE - THOMPSON
I'm looking for information on the parents of Asa Thompson. He lived from September 9, 1853, to October 15, 1943. Asa, his wife Nancy Jane McBee, and son George are buried in the Mount Vernon Church cemetery in Barbour County. Children were Monzell, Lenora, George A., Ivy, Ethel, and Lula. Nancy Jane and the children and spouses were connected to the Elk City - Overfield area of the county so the family possibly lived there.

HUMPHREYS
I believe Joseph L. Humphreys lived in Barbour County, around Philippi,
Belington and Peel Tree Road (which may be in the edge of Upshur/Pocahontas
County).
I believe he was born in the 1830-46 timeframe. I saw on an old census
where his previous place of residence sometime prior to 1874 was GA and his
place of birth was Scotland.
He married Emily A. Bond from Philippi. She was a sister to
James Bond. She was born around 1850 and died 3 Aug 1898. She and Joseph
married around 1870-73. And here are their (7) children:
- Landon 1874
- Effie 1878
- Rascoe 1883
- Birdie 1885
- Joseph S. 1887
- Mattie 1889
- Franklin B. 1891

ROHRBAUGH - DEBARR
My GG-Grandmother was Catherine Rohrbaugh? I really thought her last name was, Radabaugh, since another searcher has it
listed as that, but when I went into your site and pulled up the Barbour County Marriages..I find her listed as,
"Rohrbaugh", and I see several other Rohrbaugh names there, so now wondering if that was, in fact, her last name??... She
did marry my GG-Granddad Stephen DeBarr, on the 27th of June, 1821 in Barbour County. My DeBarr family lived and are buried
in what is now Upshur County. We know that Upshur was formed from a part of Barbour in 1851.
I am going to write to the Barbour County Court House, and see if I can get a Birth certificate, Marriage and even Death Certificate
on both of them. I do know they are not buried with a lot of my DeBarr Ancestors..I am just now looking back into my
"female" lines, in my Family Tree.

HOFFMAN - McDANIEL - PHILLIPS
I am looking for any info on Icie Hoffman, my "vanished" grandmother,
who married Warwick Phillips of Randolph Co. on Nov. 17, 1909 in
Harrison County (both were 23 years old). Icie gave birth to my
father, Russell Randolph Phillips on Sept. 2, 1910. She "went back to
her people" immed. after her "confinement" according to Warwick's
sisters, who raised my father. Icie's father was Levi Hoffman (b. April
10, 1854), youngest son of Israel Hoffman (b. June 2, 1810,
d. Oct. 23, 1856).
Icie's father Levi was married to Ingaby McDaniel. They had daughters:
Opha, Ona, Alice, and Icie; and two sons. Icie may have died young,
leaving Warwick a widower. He married again in 1919 and died shortly
after, at 33. I would be so grateful for any information on Icie.
What little I know about her came from a "Barbour County Scrapbook,
Clippings from the Barbour Democrat" submitted by Linda Graham, dated
Nov. 1932, concerning 91 year old John I Hoffman (b. July 27,1841). It
looks as though Icie Hoffman would have been his niece, as her father,
Levi R. Hoffman (married Ingaby McDaniel, mother of Icie), is listed as
John I. Hoffman's youngest brother. Levi was 13 years younger than
John I.

HARRIS - McCAINE - McCLAINE
I am researching my Harris family line for entry into the DAR/SAR.
The target of my search is the marriage of Jackson Harris and
Caroline McCaine (or McClaine). They would have been married after the
1850 census and before 1857 when their first son, Robert, was born.
If it would not be too much additional trouble, could you also
check for Caroline's death. She was alive in the 1870 census, but died
before August of 1875, when Jackson married Margaret Smith.
Thank you for your help in this matter.

Obituary Morgantown Post:
Philip Hoffman, father of one of the editors of the Post, died at his residence in Barbour County, WV at 6
o'clock on Thursday evening, January 09, (1879) age 82 years, 1 month, 9 days. He was for many years a
resident of Monogalia County, and lived in what is the now Clinton District, the place of his nativity. He was the
oldest son of John and Sarah Hoffman, who emigrated from Berks County, PA about the year 1795 or '96, and
settled on the "Old Hoffman Farm" near Smithtown. In 1845 or '46 he moved to Preston county, where he lived
until about five years since, when he went to Barbour county. He was married in 1820 to Alethe Summers,
daughter of Rev. Alexander Summers, of this county, and raised to their majority ten children -- eight of whom
are still living. He leaves eight children, 56 grandchildren, about 86 great grand-children, three sisters, and many
friends to mourn his loss, but our loss is his gain, and we hope his troubles are over.
"Father, farewell"
Note: This obit was probably put in the paper by Philip's son Nimrod Nelson Hoffman. Nimrod was one of two
editors of the Morgantown Post at that time. It is apparent that he was not fond of his father's second wife,
Phoebe (Goff) Hoffman. Phoebe had four children, two of whom were Philip's: Harrison and Phoebe are not
mentioned.
And no indication of where he was buried.

ASHENFELTER
I found a listing on the Internet for this web site that was dated Apr. 2, 2008. The lister asked if anyone knew what became of Jacob Ashenfelter who owned a house on the current site of the IGA store in Philippi. I'd like to know that, too. Jacob was my great-great grandfather.
When I went to this site's archives, I couldn't find the same listing I'd seen on the net. Would whoever wrote the message about Jacob Ashenfelter please contact me if you found the answer. 'Cause I'd really like to know, too!

LOW
In the making of Upshur county in 1851 it uses the following as part
of the boundary line "Colonel John Reger now resides, thence with said
ridge so as to divide the waters of Pecks run from Big Run to Gnatty
Creek mountain; thence to the mouth of the run on which JOHN LOW
resides, so as to include Mr. Cum; thence so as to include all the
waters of said run to Peel Tree mountain.
I am trying to find descendents of the mentioned John Low, and/or where
exactly John Low lived.
It appears he is on the border of 2 counties. Can you tell me where,
and if there are still relation there. It seems to me they were close
to Belington? Thank you.

BOSWORTH - HALTERMAN - HONINGER - HOTTINGER - KURTZ - SEE - WOLLARD - YANKEY
I am interested in finding information about my grandmother, Dorothy or
Dorthanne See. She was born in 1848 and married my grandfather, John Halterman in
1866. I can find no information regarding her parents, I believe their names
were George See and Harriet Bosworth. She passed before I was born but my
elderly siblings tell me that she was of American Indian descent. I am also
interested in finding information about George See, Harriet Bosworth, Phoebe
Yankey, Susann Wollard and all the John Haltermans and Hottinger or Honinger and
Kutz clans. My tree is as follows:
John Halterman married Susann Wollard in 1810
John Aaron Halterman (b.1810) married Phoebe Yankey (b.1812) in 1830
Phoebe Yankey was the daughter of Michael Yankey III (b.1775)and Magdalene
Hottinger or Honinger (b.1777)
Michael Yankey III froze to death while trying to find grain to feed the farm
animals in 1830.
Magdalene Hottinger/Honinger was the daughter of Conrad Honinger/Hottinger
and Catherine Kutz.
John A. Halterman (b.1840) married Dorthanne See (b.1848) in 1866
Sidney Bert Halterman (b.1899) , child of John and Dorthanne, was my father.
Any assistance would be appreciated. I love your site! Thank you!
