lost them in the 1870 Upshur Co. Census. them.I really need to find a death record

MYERS
I have since found some information that makes me believe that the son of John and Margaret
Myers might not be my Ulysses G. MYERS. Do you have any records on a:
William Henry MYERS who married
Ruhanah PYLES (PYLES)
they had a son Ulysses G. MYERS b. 1 Aug 1872
I think this is my line. The dates add up better. On Ulysses G. MYERS marriage certificate it states he was 25 and Isabella MANKINS 26. They married on Oct 7 1896.
Those dates make him 24 and the other Ulysses, son of John Henry MYERS was 2 in 1870 so in 1896 he would have been 28.

BENNETT - CREED - CREEK - MOLISEE
Seeking information on these families. My father Henry Herbert BENNETT was born in Philippi,
of Barbour County on October 26, 1923 to Claude Vernon BENNETT and Della Flo
(MOLISEE) BENNETT. The Barbour County Court house had no records of my dad's birth.
However through information on a birth certificate he applied for and received with the help
of his parents in the 1942, I was able to a get a confirmation on his birth date. Evidently
information from the 1930 was extracted in order that he might receive a birth certificate in 1942.
I knew my grandfather had been married before marrying my grandmother Della
Flo MOLISEE on May 10, 1918 in Kingwood, W Va. Della Flo MOLISEE ( born
April 21, 1897) was from Masontown, Preston County, her parents were John
Henry and Nettie (NICKLOSON ?ed spelling) MOLISEE.
The story is that my grandfather was born November or Dec 24, 1884, Claude
Vernon Creek ? (BENNETT) as an infant along with his mother Ida Bell SIMPSON
(born May 12, 1865 and died July 11, 1935), daughter of Rollie SIMPSON and
Catherine Bell SIMPSON, were abandoned by his father C. I. (Claude Ivan?)
CREEK, CREAK, CREED CREAD, spelling?ed in the area of Newburg. They were
probably abandoned where he was born on Scotch Hill Road below Newburg as the
story is they were left in a logging camp.
My great great grandfather Rollie Simpson, was a descendent of John Simpson who settled in
Morgantown. My great grandmother Ida Bell Simpson married Ranson Newton BENNETT on
Nov 10, 1892. Ranson took Claude to raise and gave him his last name BENNETT when
Claude was around 8 years old. Ranson was born May 9, 1849 and died February 4, 1902.

COX - HARMON - PHILLIPS - SKINNER
I am searching for my grandparents and great-grandparents family, some born
in Parkersburg, Gay, Ripley, Ravenswood, Fairmont, areas of W.V,
Monongalia, Barbour, Jackson and Wood Counties.
My great grandparents John Milton COX and Elizabeth Melvina HARMON were married in Jackson Co, WVa, in 1893. Their children were Bessie, Emmitt, Charles Pernal (my grandfather), Cleo, James Thomas and Daniel (Dane). His parents (John Milton's) were Pernal Cox (possibly William Purnel) and Clara, Elvira, or Sara? Their children were John Milton (my great-grandfather), Lloyd, Willie, Clara, Ellie, and Mary. It appears that Bessie or Elizabeth may have been married to a PHILLIPS and later Bessie married Colonel SKINNER. Bessie was born in 1892 and Emmet born in 1890, possibly in Fairmont, WV. both before John and Elizabeth were married in 1893.
John Milton "Doc" COX of Belleville, drowned (was thrown overboard) on the
Ohio River. He was reported missing 3-9-1924 while living with Martha Ann
and Alvie JOHNSONS on the WV side of the Ohio River. The body was found
4-14-1924, rites held 4-16-1924 at First Christian Church with burial at
Hall Cemetery, Vienna . Based on vague notes left by a deceased Aunt this
was reported in the newspapers on 3-9, Monday April 14, Tues April 15,
Wednesday April 16 and Thursday April 17, 1924. Based on the notes the body
was found near Neale's Island. It also appears that charges of involuntary
manslaughter was filed agains C. JOHNSON and his wife and a L. ROSE but that
the death was ruled an accident by a Jury verdict. She does not mention in
what newpaper these articles or the obit appeared. Can anyone help with
locating these clippings, they should identify his parents and that
generation of COX's.

SMITH
I am looking for the link between my 3rd great grandfather and his
parents. His wife and family lived in Hall, Barbour (Virginia then West Virginia.)
His son submitted information on his death that his parents were Adam and Elizatheth SMITH. He was born in Union Pennsylvania.
There seems to be some confusion and of late I have noted that there were also Germans in the area that had changed their names from SCHMIDT to SMITH.
Michael SMITH was born Jan 1795. I have lots of records, but none telling where the family originally came from. Is there possibly a book on the citizens of Hall, Barbour, VA/WVA from 1835 through 1868 with a listing for Michael & Susanna SMITH. Please let me know. Thanks, Carole Owens at my husband's webb address Mike Owens mauimanm@pacbell.net.

DOUGLAS - WELCH
I am interested in verifying that Sarah Arvilla WELCH was born 13 Feb
1864 in Barbour County.
Her parents may have been James R. and Mary WELCH, married in Barbour County on 20 Dec 1853. I would like to prove this, also.
The 1860 Barbour County census records on page 129:
James R. Welch 27 M Farmer (age is in question with other records)
Mary 25 F
Drusilla 5 F
Levi 3 M
Melvin 3/12 M
The 1870 Barbour County census records on page 23:
James Welch 23 M W Farmer (age should possibly be 43)
Drusilla 16 F
Noah 13 M (age matches Levi from 1860 census)
Milvel 8 M (age nearly matches Melvin from 1860 census)
Arvilla 6 F (right age to be my great grandmother)
Luisa 1 F
What has happened to Mary? p My great grandmother, Arvilla, was raised by adoptive parents William and Hetta M. YOUNG in Harrison County, according to the 1880 Harrison County census.
Family stories say that Arvilla's mother died when Arvilla was quite young and that her father took two sons and moved west, perhaps to Kansas. He placed two daughters in the care of friends and said he would return for them, but never did.
This story fits the data I have found so far as Drusilla was married in Harrison County in 1872. This would leave Noah (Levi) and Milvel (Melvin) to have been taken with their father while Arvilla and Luisa were left behind.
The family mystery has always been .... what happened to Arvilla's mother? Did she die and if so, of what? Or, was there a divorce or other parting of the ways such that she was not on the 1870 census? With a 1 year old on the 1870 census, it leads me to believe that whatever happened occurred in the timeframe of 1868 to 26 Nov 1870 (when the census was taken).
Was there a local paper that might contain an obituary or other record of what happened?
Your assistance in pointing me in the right direction to research the
answers to these questions would be most appreciated. Thank you, Nancy Tope, E-mail:

CUTRIGHT - PHILLIPS - YEAGER
To Whom This May Concern: I am trying to obtain ancestral info on a
James CUTRIGHT who married Achsah PHILLIPS, born 1824, died 1904.
According to info given to me by my maternal, great grandmother, Laura CUTRIGHT PHILLIPS, (b. 1899, died 1992) her grandfather was from the Upshur County area. Her father was James P. CUTRIGHT ( b.1868, d.1956), son of James, the elder. James P. CUTRIGHT married Edith Serenda YEAGER.
James CUTRIGHT, the elder and his wife Achsah later made their home in Randolph County near Coalton. They resided in Randolph as early as 1868. There is no mention of James CUTRIGHT in the 1850 Randolph County Census.
According to the 1860, and 1870 Randolph County
Census James Cutright was born c. 1815 in VA. James, and Achsah's children
were as follows:
Simon, b. 1841, VA;
Daniel, b. 1843 VA;
Lucy A., b. 1845, VA;
Margaret C.; b. 1862, VA,
James P.; b. 1865, WV (my maternal, great, great, great Grandfather).
I know very little info on James CUTRIGHT, the elder. I do know that he is buried in the Scott Cemetery over looking the Tygarts Valley river near Norton, WV. James' wife Achsah, and her son James P. and his wife Edith are all buried in the Phillips Cemetery, Jimtown, Randolph County, West Virginia which was located near where they all lived. Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. If you have no info, do you know of any other person who is actively researching the Cutright surname in the Upshur County area? I am looking for my grandfather's family of "WIANS". He was born in

pronunciations of his birth name, however he applied for a marriage

FRESHOUR - LOWER - TURNER - WALTER
I'm trying to bring together material on the Simon & Ann Maria (LOWER) WALTER family. I
have made the following notation in regard to an Emily WALTER who is likely a daughter of the
first marriage of John WALTER:
"An Emily WALTER was listed in 1850 Barbour Co., VA Census with William TURNER, age 31, farmer, b. Va. family; wife Sarah TURNER, age 29, b. Va., not read & write; children: Henry M., age 7 and John, age 2. Could Sarah have been Emily WALTER's sister."
Thus far no one seems to have identified either "Catherine" or "Emiliy" or "Sally" of the family of John WALTER & wife Elizabeth. There was a marriage in 1821 of an Elizabeth FRESHOUR to a John WALTER and John WALTER had a wife Elizabeth ?? in the 1850 Census, but a previous researcher on this family has indicated one group of children (b. before 1831 or 1835) were by a first wife who's name is unknown. None of the children (unless Mary Ann, b. 1835 is a daughter of the first marriage) seems to have been with John & Elizabeth household in 1850.
The listing of children of John (with regard to their mothers) is rather ambiguous (with several listed for both mothers) in the currently available electronic posting of the Walter family.
Any help would be appreciated. Nick Sturm, E-mail:Nick_Sturm@email.msn.com

GEORGE - YEAGER
I am trying to locate information on the parents of Daniel M.
YEAGER, born Barbour County (then VA) in May of 1844 near Belington,
died February 23, 1922 (Source: Federal Pension Records filed with the
National Archives) with Burial in the Upper Rowan Cemetery in Mabie,
Randolph County, WV. His published obituary indicated that he died on
February 22, 1922, aged 79 years and 9 months (The Randolph EnterpriseNewspaper)
Mr. YEAGER married Nancy GEORGE in 1870 at Talbott's Church with the Rev. Joseph TEETER officiating. The Federal Pension Records conflict with obituary and indicate that the marriage took place in 1865 at the residence of Solaman GEORGE by Joseph TETER. Mrs. YEAGER was born in Barbour County in 1856 and died on June 13, 1913 aged 66 years, one month and 16 days (which would of had her year of birth in 1847) with burial in the Upper Rowan Cemetery in Mabie, Randolph County, West Virginia. (Source: Randolph Enterprise Newspaper)
Mr. YEAGER was a farmer by vocation and moved from Barbour to Randolph County 43 years prior to his death in 1922 (obituary).
Their children: Mary E. Yeager;
born June 14, 1866.
Eda S. Yeager (My maternal Great, Great
Grandmother); born June 27, 1868.
Sarah E. Yeager; born Sept 14, 1870.
Henry J. Yeager; born Sept 11, 1872.
Soloman Yeager; born Aug 18, 1874.
Louisa J. Yeager; born Dec 28, 1879 and
Rachel E. Yeager; born March 9 1881
(Source: Federal Pension Records which appear to be written in Mr.
Yeager's own hand relative to marriage and family info).
Mr. Daniel M. Yeager served as a private in Captain F. W. Ford's Company F 15th Regiment West Virginia Infantry Volunteers. He was mustered into service at Wheeling, Virginia Sept. 10th 1862 and musteed out on June 14, 1865 at Richmond, Va. (Source: Military Records, National Archives).

If I could find him or a descendant, perhaps this could lead me to a new clue for Richard Eppe, my grandfather.
If anyone has done extensive searching on the Barbour Co. ROBINSONs, please contact me/ or on the STEELs.

parents are Emory TALBOTT (1835-1898) and Clarinda STALNAKER. Emory's mother
was Mary POLING (1810-?) but I have not connected any of the numerous TALBOTT
lines to Emory's father. Any info would be appreciated. Francis Sturms, E-mail: fsturms@aol.com

DERRY - McCLEERY - MASHLER - MITCHELL - MUSCHLER -
WATKINS
I have "lost 400 acres" and hoped you might be able to turn me in the right
direction.
Family stories state that our DERRY line came out of Loudoun County, VA and settled around the Philippi, WV area around 1812, before moving up into Fayette Co., PA.
The only clue I have is from a will dated 1808 from Balser DERRY. In it he bequeathes 100 acres each (of his 400 acres) to his two sons, Philip and Jacob DERRY, and his two sons-in-law, Benjamin WATKINS and Adam MUSCHLER (Mashler/Mitchell). From that point on -- the 400 acres seems to disappear.
Balser DERRY purchased the 400 acres on 30 April 1796 from William McCLEERY and Isabella, his wife. They were of Monongalia County, VA and this is where the deed is recorded in Old Series DBk. A pg. 203-204. The 400 acres was listed as being in Harrison County, VA. "along a branch of Simpson Creek". I have been told that this is now Barbour County, WV. Also, there is another possibility that the land was also certified in Randolph Co., WV -- but that has not been confirmed.
Who should I write to? Thanks for any direction you might be able to provide! Happy Holidays to you!!! Joan Derry, E-mail: MDMama2841@aol.com
