Margarette Kay Nale

Margarette Kay Nale 65 of Colliers, WV, died Dec. 30, 2007, at Trenty West Hospital in Steubenville, OH.

She was born Nov. 17, 1942 at Rt. 1, New Cumberland, WV. She was the fourth daughter of Elzie and Ruth (Crawford) Louk, both of whom preceded her in death along with one sister Shirley Louk Eismon.

She is survived by her husband of 44 years, David Nale; three sons John Nale of Colliers, Lorne Nale and his wife, Cherie, and Tim Nale and friend Paula, all of Wellsburg, WV; one daughter, Tonya Francis and her husband, Dave, of Wellsburg; eight grandchildren; three sisters Wanema Cox and her husband, Arthur, of St. Marys, Carol McLaughlin of Georgetown, PA, and Karen Poynter and her husband, Chuck, of Leetonia, OH; and three brothers Ken Louk of East Palestine, OH, and Ralph Louk and his wife, Loretta, and David Louk and his wife, Sally, all of Calcutta, OH.

Memorial services will be held at an undetermined date.

Betty C. Nance

Betty C. Nance, 80, of Belmont, WV, died , April 8, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

She was born Nov. 21, 1921, in Belmont, a daughter of Charles E. and Jennie Lind Webb Canter. She was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church, she was a 1941 graduate of St. Marys High School, and retired in 1984 from the U.S. Army, where she served as an administrative clerk at the Army Research Institute as a civilian.

She is survived by one nephew, Charles E. Cantner, and other friends and family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Holland Nance; one brother, Carl B. Cantner; and one sister, Evelyn Adams.

Services will be held noon Wednesday at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Evangelist David Powers officiating. Burial will be in the Newport Cemetery, Newport, Ohio. Calling hours from 7-9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.

Florence P. Neff

Florence P. Neff, 88, of Belmont, W.Va., passed away May 20, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born Nov. 10, 1921 in Wood County, W.Va., a daughter of the late M. Rector Deaton and Wreatha E. Bayles Deaton. She was a member of the Buck Run Church of Christ and besides being a homemaker, she was a former employee of Paden City Pottery, Weirton Steel, Shovel Plant in Parkersburg, and a cook at the Friendly Grade School. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Floyd and Charles "Putt" Deaton; sister, Della Mae Mace; and son-in-law, Nick Bullman.

She is survived by her husband, Harold E. Neff of Belmont; son, William Doug Neff of St. Marys, W.Va.; daughter, Carol Sue Bullman of St. Marys; grandsons, Todd (Frances) Bullman of Salinas, Calif., and Theron (Piroon) Bullman of San Francisco, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Caitlin and James Bullman of Salinas, Calif.; and several neices and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Myers Funeral Home with Evangelist Ken Keifer officiating. Interment will follow at Friendly Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Charles Pinks Newell

Charles Pinks Newell, 90, of Remus, MI, passed away Feb. 6, 2009, at Isabella Medical Care Facility in Mount Pleasant, MI, with family at his wide.

He was born June 22, 1918, in St. Marys to Bert and Lelia Reed Newell.

He moved to Michigan with his family on the Fourth of July after graduating from high school. He worked at the A&P Store and an oil refinery and served in the U. S. Navy. He was co-owner of Roe's Grocery Store, was Wheatland Township clerk for 27 years, a member of Remus Lions Club and Wheatland Fire Dept. and also managed the Remus Apartments. After retirement, he and his wife traveled throughout the U. S.

He married Agnes Aldrich at St. Michael's Church She preceded him in death Dec 7, 200. They had five daughters, Judith Williams and her husband, John, of Shepherd, MI, Nancy Newell of Perry, MI, Ann Losey and her husband, Ron, of Mount Pleasant, Susan Bauman and her husband, Al, of Remus and Mary Lynn Newell and her husband, Curtis, of Silver City, NM; a son, Thomas Newell and his wife, Linda of Okemos, MI; 13 . grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his infant son, Charles P. Newell Jr., and a sister Rosalie Post.

Cremation has taken place, and family services will be held at a later date.

Gladys I. Newland

Gladys I. Newland, 84, of Belmont in Pleasants County, W.Va., departed this life on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at Belmont.

Mrs. Newland was born on July 27, 1925, at Schultz, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Lillie Smith Steele. She had been employed by the Pleasants County School System for more than 17 years as a cook at the Pleasants County Middle School.

She is survived by daughters, Nancy Davis of St. Marys, W.Va., and Frances Mahaney of Lenoir City, Tenn.; son, David Newland of Parkersburg; brothers, Lee Steele of Schultz, W.Va., and Larry Steele of Belmont; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newland was preceded in death by her husband, George B. Newland; infant son, John T. Newland; an infant daughter; sisters, Mary Taylor, Audra Wise, Maxine Johnson and Hattie Knost; and brothers, Emmett, John, Hobert and Clark Steele.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Willow Island Baptist Church with the Rev. Martin L. Corbin officiating. Interment will be in the Willow Island Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, W.Va., and one hour prior to the services Friday at the church.

Harold B. Newland

Harold B. (Burt) Newland, 72, of St. Marys died 3:41 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2004, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 14, 1931, in St. Marys to Paul and Garnet Tippens Newland. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School and had taken further training for the ministry. He had been an Evangelist in the Church of Christ for more than 40 years and had preached in many states, as well as Canada.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Seevers Newland; one son, Sean Andrew Newland and his wife, Leslie, of St. Marys; and two grandchildren, Megan and Lindsey Newland.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, with interment in Newport Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 p.m. Tuesday until the hour of service.

Donna I. Nicely

Donna I. Davis Nicely, 72, of Deerwalk Highway, Waverly, went home to be with her Lord and Saviour on Jan. 11, 2007, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born June 30, 1934, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late John L. and Helen Wine Davis.

Donna was a member of Narrow Gate Baptist Church. She retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital and was a former employee of The Guard Cleaners. She enjoyed quilting, crochet and sewing and also enjoyed camping and working crossword puzzles.

Surviving is her daughter, Barbara “Barb” Myers and her fiance, Bill Repine, of Waverly; three grandchildren, Christy Martin and her husband, Tim, of Waverly, Derick Fore and his wife, Christina, of St. Marys and Jeff McDonald and his wife, Linda, of Marietta; five great-grandchildren, Joey, Brandie, Sherylei, Hayden and Connor; two brothers, Albert “Ab” Davis and his wife, Ethel, of Vienna and James “Jim” Davis of Parkersburg; one sister, Ruth Riddle and her husband, Bob, of Belpre; and her pet dogs that she loved so much, Frosty and Roscoe.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James C. Nicely; her second husband, Archie Dean Garrison; her son, Robert G. Nicely; a great-granddaughter, Jennifer Marcum; and a brother, William (Chirp) Davis.

The funeral service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Kimes Funeral Home, 521 Fifth St., Parkersburg, with Pastor Steve Staats officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery at Williamstown. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Archie C. Nichols

Archie C. Nichols, 76, of Parkersburg died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va.

He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Ritchie County, a son of the late Robert H. and Lona Cunningham Nichols. He was a member of the Prayer Chapel Church in Parkersburg. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a construction worker, having worked at Penn Metal and Willow Island and formerly at Evergreen Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Crosby Nichols, whom he married on Dec. 23, 1973; and three sisters, Opal Morris of Belmont, Mabel Linder of Smoaks, S.C., and Virginia Moneypenny of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Copenhaven, Phyllis Devaugh and Sylvia Bradley; and three brothers, Bernard, Wilford and Clifford Nichols.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Green Street, Parkersburg, with Pastor Karol Bennett officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen North Cemetery with full military honors by Parkersburg Post 15 of the American Legion. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. today and until time of services Friday at the funeral home.

Bruce Edward "Nick" Nichols, 58, of St. Marys died April 16, 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Ina Rawson Nichols; four brothers, Fred Nichols, Roger Nichols, Gary Nichols and Dale Nichols; one sister, Barbara Cornell; three very special self-adopted sons, Bob Jenkins., Charlie Stewart and George English.

Clarence A. Nichols

Clarence A. "Fuzzy" Nichols, 96, of St. Marys died March 22, 2005, at the Riverside Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born Feb. 10, 1918, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a son of the late Meredith and Rebecca Wiley Nichols. He was a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ, where he rang the church bell. He was a member of the Harmony Lodge 59 AF&AM in Pennsboro and a member of the Carpenter's Local 2023 of Parkersburg. His first job was the C.C. Camp in Marlinton, W.Va., under President Franklin Roosevelt. He helped build Fort Meade, Md., Army Barracks. He worked for Charles Dowling Contractor and John William Hammett Builders, building homes mostly in and around Pleasants County, Williamstown, and Marietta areas. He retired from Willow Island Power Plant as head of the carpenter's shop. In earlier years, he and his family worked the farm with cattle and a large garden. As his children finished high school, he and his wife, Evelyn, built Peass Homes for eight years to sell, and most proudly produced four oil and gas wells to send each child through college, plus the granddaughter. He loved his work. He would always say "There was never a day of work that I didn't enjoy."

He is survived by one son, Roger Max Nichols of West Union, W.Va.; two daughters, Sondra Pren of Akron, Ohio, and Joyce Ann Ross of Marietta; three grandchildren, Kate Nichols Carnevale of Chicago, Ill., 1st LT. Aaron Nichols of Hurricane, W.Va., and Todd Pren of Akron; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Nichols of Hurricane; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and special home care givers, Maggie Templeton and her daughter, Mitz Templeton, both of St. Marys.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Evelyn Hart Nichols; three sisters, Opal Procopio, Thelma Riggs and Edith Nichols; three brothers, Harry Nichols, Elmer Nichols and Pearl Nichols; and one half brother, Wesley Nichols.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Dave Williamson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Calling hours will be 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edna Nichols

Edna Nichols, 100, of Route 1, St. Marys died April 5, 2002, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 5, 1902, in Ritchie County, a daughter of the late Oliver and Laura Eddy Cunningham. She had attended the Jehovah Witness Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Mildred Pritchett of St. Marys; two sons, Homer Nichols, and Clarence Nichols, both of St. Marys; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward E. Nichols; one son, Clyde Nichols; one daughter; one brother; and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the Nine Mile Cemetery, Route 16, Pleasants County, WV. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. today at Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys.

Elias Nichols, of Nine Mile, an aged and respected citizen of this county died Tuesday night. We learned no particulars of his demise. As he was more than three score and ten it is presumed he died of old age.

Evelyn Hart Nichols, 84, of Rt. 1, St. Marys, WV, died May 29, 2003, at the Arbors of Marietta.

She was born June 23, 1918 at Cloverdale in Pleasants Co., a daughter of Christopher C. and Margie Oliver Hart. She was a 1938 graduate of St. Marys High School. She was a member of the Cloverdale Church of Christ, and was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, hummingbirds and being a partner with her husband in building houses and pumping the oil and Gas wells.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clarence A. " Fuzzie" Nichols; children, Roger Max Nichols and his wife Jennifer of West Union, WV; Sondra Pren and her husband, Dan of Akron, Ohio and Joyce Ann Ross of Marietta, Ohio; grandchildren, Kate Nichols Carnevale of Aurora, IL; 1st. Lt. Aaron Nichols of Yuma, AZ; and Todd Pren of Akron, Ohio; brothers Luther and Ross Hart of St. Marys sisters Audra Hewitt and Shelba McHenry both of Newport, Ohio, Virginia Shultz of Painesville, Ohio; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgie Paulene Hart and Grace Nichols, and two brothers Lloyd and Frank Hart.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Dave Williams officiating. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday and from 9-11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Frances Nichols, 68, of Columbus, OH, died Feb. 7, 2009.

She was born at Hebron and was a member of Groveport (OH) Church of Christ.

She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Nichols Sr.; five children, Robert W. Nichols Jr. and his wife, Kathy, Richard W. Nichols, Roy H. Nichols and his wife, Kelly, Kimberly S. McGowan and Keith A. Nichols; grandchildren, Michael W. and Megan R. Nichols, Heather L. and Robert A. Handers, Eric M. and Julia M. McGowan and Robert A. Nichols; great-grandchild, Cameron J. Weiland; sister, Brenda Davis and her husband, Richard; sister-in-law, Thelma May.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy H. and Della O. May; a sister, Doris Logan and her husband, Carl; and a brother, Robert H. May.

A memorial service will be held at Groveport Church of Christ at a later date.

Garnet Fay Nichols, 96, of St. Marys, WV, died April 10, 2004, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, OH. She was born, June 24, 1907, in Ritchie County, WV, a daughter of the late Charles Michael and Katherine Jane Bowie. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. She loved to crochet. She was a christian. She is survived by one son, Leroy Glenn Nichols of Gratiot, OH, two daughters, Edna Maston of St. Marys, Donza Cooper and her husband James of Ravenswood, WV, eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, two sisters Lily Seese of Ellenboro, WV, and Christine Baker of Pennsboro, WV, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Ellery Nichols, one son Charles Michael Nichols, three brothers, Brackie Bowie, Eli Bowie, and Charles Bowie, four sisters, Mary Duty, Priscilla Gregg, Nancy Robinson, and an infant sister, Ruth. Services will be held Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at 1:00 P. M. at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, WV. Interment will be in the Nine Mile Cemetery, Pleasants County, WV. Calling hours from 4 to 9 P.M. Tuesday and 12 noon to 1 P. M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Jack R. Nichols

Jack R. Nichols, 76, of St. Marys, died Aug. 6, 2006, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 25, 1930, in Summersville, W.Va., a son of the late Dan and Minnie Cline Nichols. He was a member of the Open Arms Baptist Church in Summersville, W.Va., was a retired electrician at the Wolfe Creek Mine, and served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included woodworking, playing the guitar and painting.

He is survived by his wife, Luella Marple Nichols; two sons, Don Nichols and his wife, Karen, and Ron Nichols and his wife, Susie, all of Summersville, W.Va.; a daughter, Nita Myers of Winston-Salem, N.C.; stepdaughters, Linda Wilson and her husband, John, of St. Marys and Susan Wilson and her husband, Brent, of Albuquerque, N.M.; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one brother, Eugene Nichols and his wife, Carman, of Jodi, W.Va.; two sisters, Jane Woodward of Seville, Ohio, and Pat Paxton and her husband, Rex, of Summersville, W.Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Nichols; three brothers, Bill, Bob and Ed Nichols; and two sisters, Marilee Brown and Penny Nichols.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the White Funeral Home, 700 Broad St., Summersville, W.Va., with Pastor John Tinnel officiating. Interment will be 4 p.m. Thursday at the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 79, VFW Post 222 and AMVETS Post 40. Marnella C. Nichols

Marnella C. Nichols, 84, of Nine Mile Community, Route 1, St. Marys, peacefully departed this life in her sleep on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at her residence.

Mrs. Nichols was born Oct. 19, 1920, at Finch Community in Ritchie County, to the late Brady M. and Lucretia V. Jameson Cronin. She had been employed as a home caregiver, was a nurse's aid at the former Sheppard Nursing Home at Ellenboro, and she retired from the West Virginia Telephone Co. of St. Marys as a custodian. Mrs. Nichols was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the Class of 1940 and attended both the Nine Mile United Methodist Church and the Pike Church of God.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Marlyn and Velden B. Linn II of Washington, W.Va., and Ginger and Charles Postlewait, Marietta; a son, Barry Bradley Nichols of Chillicothe, Ohio; brothers, Wayne Cronin and Clifford Cronin, both of Finch Community, Route 1, St. Marys, and Keith Cronin of Harrisville; sisters, Hilda Cronin of St. Marys and Nadine Hatfield of Smithville, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nichols was preceded in death by an infant son; two infant daughters; brothers, Ralph and Brady Cronin Jr.; a sister, Vivian Fleming; and granddaughters, Kimberly and Melinda Nichols.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Nine Mile United Methodist Church with the Rev. Martin L. Corbin officiating. Interment will be in the Nine Mile Cemetery. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. today at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, and from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church.

Virginia Wince Nichols

Virginia Wince Nichols, 93, of St. Marys, W.Va., passed away July 14, 2008, at Sistersville Nursing Center, Sistersville, W.Va.

She was born April 5, 1915 in Ritchie County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Francis M. and Lula Nebrogh Wince. She was a graduate of Pennsboro High School and she attended the Belmont United Methodist Church. She was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of the Pleasants County Homemakers and Belmont Women's Club. Virginia enjoyed quilting, raising flowers and sewing.

She is survived by one son, Larry W. Nichols and his wife, Mary Ann, of Lonaconing, Md.; a daughter, Patty McCullough and her husband, Robert, of Oak Grove Community, Pleasants County, W.Va.; grandson, Mark Nichols and his wife, Jennifer, of Lonaconing, Md.; granddaughter, Jody Mohr and her husband, Bruce Rogers, of Salem, W.Va.; one great-granddaughter, Emily Mohr of Elkview, W.Va.; one brother, Jack Wince; and one sister, Wilma McMaster, both of Akron, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orville G. Nichols; and two sisters, Opal Wince and Vera McGinnis.

JOSEPH RUSSELL NOEL, Jr.

JOSEPH RUSSELL NOEL, Jr. passed away December 23, 2004 at John F. Kennedy Hospital in Atlantis after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 21, 1934 in Brockton, Mass., a son of the late Joseph Russell Noel, Sr. and Isabelle Gibbons Noel. Mr. Noel served four years with the United States Navy in the Korean War. He was retired from the Painters and Decorators Union Local #452 of West Palm Beach to which he had belonged for 30 years.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Frances Puliafico Noel; two children, Jolynn Noel Winland of St. Marys, WV and Joseph (Russell) Noel III of West Palm Beach; Fla.; four grandchildren: Mark Paul of Reno, OH, Julie Kimball of Parkersburg, WV, Nicole Hicks of St. Marys, WV and Joseph Russell (Rusty) Noel IV of West Palm Beach; one sister, Mary Ellen Bolinder of New Port Richey, FL and two brothers, James Noel of Port Orange, FL and John Noel of E. Bridgewater, MA.

Funeral services were on December 28, 2004 at Del Lago Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Fla.

JUANITA M. NOEL

Juanita M. Noel, 86, of Heath, O., died Aug. 21, 2005 at her home.

She was born May 26, 1919 in St. Marys to the late Frank and Ida (Amidon) Wolfe. She was a homemaker and had worked for Hamidon Paper Mill for 13 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Heath.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (John) Dames of Heath; a son, Timothy, Lee (Janet) Noel of Wellsburg; six grandchildren, Evelyn, Juanita Ray, Kathryn, Timothy, Laura and Brian; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Charles Noel.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, at the First Baptist Church, 525 South 30th St., Heath, with Pastor Wallace McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Kadesh Chapel Cemetery, Wellsburg.

R. Anise Fetty Noel

BELMONT - R. Anise Fetty Noel, 69, of Belmont passed away Feb. 15, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born Feb. 11, 1935, in Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of J. Kathleen Fetty of St. Marys and the late Cecil E. Fetty.

Anise was a loving mother to her only child, Sabrina Diane Noel Cochrane and her husband, Randy M. Cochrane. Her greatest joy was in loving her only grandchild, Meaghan Diane Cochrane.

She was a 1953 graduate of St. Marys High School. During her life she was employed in Washington, D.C., by the FBI, the St. Marys Telephone Co., Sterling Oil Division of Quaker State and retired from Colin Anderson Center, where she was a selfless caregiver.

For 45 years, she remained a faithful Christian, attending George Street Church of Christ. Due to her illness, her last meeting with her church family was Jan. 11, 2004.

The following family members will remember her with the love and affection she always showed them: her brother, Cecil Lee Fetty and his wife, Connie, of St. Marys; her sisters, Betty Wiggins of Ponte Verde Beach, Fla., Linda Turner and her husband, Bill, Nancy Dye and husband, Larry, both of Newport, Jeanette Thompson and husband, Don, of Woodsfield, Ohio; and brother-in-law, Jack Zeigler, husband of her late sister, Dolores A. Zeigler of St. Marys; as well as 14 nieces and nephews; and 26 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with the Evangelist Arnold Huyghebaert officiating. Burial will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. today and from noon-1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Ann Bell Noland, 85. widow of Asa V. Noland, died at her residence June 30,after an extended illness. She was born in Pleasants county, May 5, 1874, a daughter of the late Samuel and Bessie Hasman Logan.

She is survived by seven sons, Asa Noland of East Liverpool, O,; Alonso Noland of Wellsville, O.; Arnold, Robert and Allen Noland, all of St. Marys; Alphaus (Con) of Newport, O.; and Amon Noland of Akron, O.; Three daughters, Mrs Alta Colvin of Wellsville, O.; Mrs. Alice Conkle and Mrs. Amy Poynter, both of East Liverpool, O.; a number of grand children and great grandchildren.

Funeral services wll be conducted by Cecil O. Dotson in the Dewey Avenue Church ocf Christ at 2:00 p. m. Thursday, July 2. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Betty Lou Noland, 80, of St. Marys, W.Va., died Nov. 23, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

She was born May 11, 1929, in Parkersburg, a daughter of the late John W. and Mabel F. Reed Barlow. She was a member of the George Street Church of Christ. She was a homemaker, proud grandmother and an avid bingo player.

She is survived by her children, John E. Noland of Roxboro, N.C., Steve W. Noland (Tracey) and Tina A. Israel (Bill), all of St. Marys; several grandchildren, including Mason Noland (Kat) of Cary, N.C., Maggie Noland of Manheim, Pa., John Israel (Beth) of Purcellville, Va., Shelley Taylor (Jimmy) and Erin Norman (Bill), all of St. Marys, Monica Noland and Trianna Noland, both of Belize, Central America; two sisters, Margaret Myers and Dorothy Barlow, both of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Earl (Johnny) Noland.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at the Ingram Funeral Home, St. Marys, with Pastor Randy Stewart officiating. Interment will be in the St. Marys IOOF Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Howard W. Noland, 64, of Sistersville died Sept. 15, 2001, at his home.

He was employed at McDonald’s Restaurant, St. Marys, W.Va., and was a Protestant.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi Dawson Noland; three sons, Howard W. Noland Jr. of New Martinsville, Jerry D. Noland of Sistersville and Michael D. Noland of Mineral, Va; four daughters, Linda S. Johnson of New Martinsville, Donna D. Noland of Clarksburg, Ronda K. Noland of Wheeling and Christie L. Williams of Friendly; two brothers, David L. and Roy Noland, both of Maryland; two sisters, Margie Parsons of New Martinsville and Lucy B. Parsons of Ohio; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David A. and Ida Stewart Noland; one son, James Brian Noland; one brother; and one sister.

Lena N. Noland, 86, of St. Marys, W.Va., died July 23, 2007, at Carehaven of Pleasants in Belmont, W.Va.

She was born May 29, 1921, in St. Marys, a daughter of the late Job and Myrtle Smith Hackathorn. She was a member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ of St. Marys.

She is survived by her children, Robert M. Noland and his wife, Martha, of Chester, W.Va., Randy E. Noland and his wife, Shari, of Parkersburg, Phillip L. Noland of Charleston, W.Va., and Mary Wigal and her husband, Larry, of Mineral Wells; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clem Hackathorn and Lyle Hackathorn, both of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Mary Garrison of Akron; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Mildred O. Noland

Mildred O. Noland, 90, of Pennsboro, W.Va., departed this life Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at Parkersburg.

Mrs. Noland was born Nov. 28, 1914, near St. Marys, to the late John W. and Maggie Shingleton Jameson. She had worked for the Ritchie County School System in food service as a cook for seven years at Creed Collins Elementary School in Pennsboro. She had been a past president of the Ellenboro School PTA and had volunteered her time as an EMT and dispatcher for the former Ritchie County Emergency Squad, Pennsboro Division. For more than 60 years, Mrs. Noland was a faithful member of the Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church at Finch, where she had taught Sunday school and had been a Sunday school superintendent.

She is survived by a son, Richard W. Noland Jr. of New Iberia, La.; a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell A. and Joy Noland of Pennsboro; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and David Hogue of Pennsboro, Rosa and Jesus Reyes of Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Thelma and Ralph Despres of Los Alamitos, Calif., Marilyn and Paul Keller of Belpre, Wanda and Gary Underwood of Williamstown and Carolyn and Dennis McDaniels of Jamestown, N.C.; a brother, John W. Jameson Jr. of Georgetown, Ky.; a sister, Evelyn States of Parkersburg; 24 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Noland was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Lawrence Reed; her second husband, Richard W. Noland; infant sons, George John and Ralph L. Reed Jr.; a brother, Archie Jameson; and grandchildren, Timothy Echard and Paul Despres.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, with the Rev. Carl DeVaughn officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Finch. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Carol D. North

Carol D. North, 91, son of the late Ira and Ethel Wogan North, passed away at his home in King George, VA, March 6, 2009.

Born in Athens County, OH and raised in St. Malys, he moved to King George in October 1941 and to a new job at the Naval Weapons Lab at Dahlgren. He was very proud of his involvement in the early developmental work being accomplished during those years. He loved to tell stories of his life, his friends, and his work in his years of federal service.

After surviving an accidental explosion of a bomb at the "Shell House," he took a position in "K Lab" where he served as a computer operator on the earliest large scale computers being developed for the Navy, the AIKEN relay system and Naval Ordinance Research Calculator (NORC). He retired in 1975 from federal service and continued working in King George for many years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Selma North and three children; Dale North and his wife Ruth of Chesapeake, VA; Lester North and his wife, Bobbi, of Falmouth, MA, and Carolyn Sue Dulaney of Anchorage, AK, as well as seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; three brothers, Pearl North of Reno, OH, Russell North of Mansfield, OH, Gene North and his wife Gwen of Houston; TX, and numerous nephews and nieces.

He was pre-deceased by one great-grandson, Joshua Bourgeois; two sisters, Lorraine and AIice; and a brother, Elden.

Lorena E. North

Lorena Eliner Fetty North, 87, of Sheets Run Road, Marietta, departed this life at 9:35 p.m. Friday evening, April 4, 2008, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Pleasants County, W.Va., to the late Charles W. and Nancy Ellen Bailey Fetty. Her husband of 70 years, Forrest Pearl North, survives. They were married on June 9, 1937, in Friendly, W.Va., by the late Rev. V.J. Lathey.

She is also survived by five daughters, Shirley Lones of Copperas Cove, Texas, Shelba Kern of Marietta, Sonja Van Wey of Reno, Ohio, Sue Strimer of Heath, Ohio, and Selma Friesel of Utica, Ohio. Also surviving is a special grandson, Frank Schneider II, who made his home on the family farm. One daughter, Sara Haught of Williamstown, is deceased.

She was one of 15 children, the Rev. Archie Fetty of Weirton, W.Va., Micha Tennant of Wellsburg, W.Va., Velma Hall of St. Marys, W.Va., and Donald Fetty of St. Marys, survive. She was preceded by brothers, Harry Fetty, Bernard Fetty, Cecil Fetty, the Rev. Russell Fetty and Charles Fetty Jr.; and sisters, Ruby Peters, Hazel Garner, Edith Elder, Beatrice Martin and Maggie Fetty.

There are 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded by one daughter; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She had attended Pleasants County schools. She was a member of Sandhill United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Women’s Club. She was a member of the VFW auxiliary and a former member of the Eagles. She had been employed as a cook and by B.F. Goodrich and Forma Scientific prior to her retirement. She had a rural motor route for The Marietta Times for 15 years carrying the Reno area and her husband carried the downtown paper boxes.

She loved sewing, quilting and cooking and was known to be a “delicious pie baker” by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Selma S. North

Selma S. North, 87, widow of Caroll D. North, passed away at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, VA, April 28, 2009.

She was the daughter of George A. Reed and Pearlie Little Reed. Born in St. Marys, she had made King George her home for nearly 68 years. Her family and their well-being were always foremost in her mind.

Her love had no bounds and it was her love and devotion and occcasional nudge that kept the family on track. She will be deeply missed by her family and her close and dear friends.

She is survived by her three children, Dale North and his wife, Ruth, of Chesapeake, VA; Lester North and his wife, Bobbi, of Falmouth, MA; and Sue Dulaney of Anchorage, AK; seven grand-children; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was the only living child of George Reed and was predeceased by five brothers, Carl, Lawrence,, William, Homer, and Roy; five sisters, Doris Roberts, Shia Williamson, Edith Childers, Hazle Beckman and Mary Dean Reed; and one great-grandson, Joshua Bourgeois.

The funeral service will be held Monday, at Nash and Slaw Funeral Home, King George, with burial to follow in Historyland Memorial Park, King George.

Bruce Northcraft

Bruce Northcraft, 75, of Bens Run, W.Va., died, March 19, 2002, at the Marietta Memorial Hospital, Marietta, Ohio. He was born Jan. 2, 1927, at Pt. Lookout, Pleasants County, West Virginia, a son of Ruby Tice Domain. He was a graduate of St. Marys High School, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a millwright and a member of the Millwrights Local Union 1755 in Parkersburg. He was a member of the Pt. Lookout United Methodist Church, where he was a song leader and sang in the church choir. His hobbies included farming.

He is survived by one son, Ralph E. Northcraft and his wife, Carla, of Bens Run; two grandsons, Chad Northcraft and Brian Northcraft of Middlebourne, W.Va.; and his second wife, Phyllis Parsons Dent Northcraft. He was preceded in death by his mother and his first wife, Mary Wells Northcraft.

Services will be held Sunday, March 24, at 2 p.m. at the Ruttencutter-Ingram Funeral Home in St Marys, W.Va. Burial will be in the Pt. Lookout Cemetery, Pt. Lookout, Pleasants County. Calling hours from 7-9 p.m. Friday, and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Grace Lucille Northcraft, 96, of Belmont, W.Va., died March 23, 2005, at Carehaven of Pleasants.

She was born Sept. 29, 1908, at Beech Run, Pleasants County, W.Va., a daughter of the late John A.M. and Sarah E. Adams Jones. She was a member of the Raven Rock United Methodist Church. She enjoyed doing crafts and was a regular participant at the Santa's Workshop, showing her skills at crocheting, quilt making, pillow craft and other for many years in St. Marys. She retired from Colin Anderson Center.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, State Senator Donna and Jack E. Boley of St. Marys; two daughters-in-law, Pam Northcraft of Norcross, Ga., and Janice Northcraft of New Cumberland, W.Va.; grandsons, Brian L. Boley and his wife, Saundra, of Lowell, Ohio, Eddie Northcraft of New Manchester, W.Va., Scott Northcraft and his wife, Sharon, of Norcross and Mike Northcraft of Toronto, Ohio; granddaughters, Kari L. Long of Morgantown, W.Va., Sharon Piquet of Newton Falls, Ohio, Shirley McClelland of Toronto and Sarah Northcraft of Norcross; several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glen A. Northcraft; two sons, Glen Northcraft Jr. in 1998, and Larry P. Northcraft of Norcross on March 1, 2005; three sisters; and six brothers.

Larry P. Northcraft

Larry P. Northcraft, 60, of Norcross, Ga., died March 1, 2005, at the Fairview University Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

He was born Sept. 14, 1944, at Bens Run, W.Va., a son of Grace Jones Northcraft of Belmont and the late Glen A. Northcraft Sr. He was a 1962 graduate of St. Marys High School, received his industrial engineering degree from West Virginia University and his doctorate degree from Arizona State University. He had been employed by Western Electric in Phoenix, Ariz. He later was employed by Lucent Technologies in Norcross, Ga., where he retired. He was an avid collector of antiques and liked to attend antique auctions.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Pam Ray Northcraft; two children, Scott Northcraft and Sarah Northcraft, both in Norcross, Ga.; one sister and brother-in-law, State Senator Donna and Jack Boley of St. Marys; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Glen Northcraft Jr.

Pamela Gail Skinner Nutter, 51, of Parkersburg died May 9, 2004, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Parkersburg, a daughter of James E. Skinner of Parkersburg and Vidella Mathis Skinner Danielson and her husband, Robert, of Belmont, W.Va. She attended Faith Gospel Church.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 29 years, David M. Nutter; two daughters, Jennifer Kirl and her husband, Brian, of Davisville and Amy Sandy and her husband, Steven, of Parkersburg; a brother, James S. Skinner and his wife, Joyce, of Marietta; a sister, Lori Enoch and her husband, Brian, of Elizabeth; four stepsisters; four stepbrothers; three grandchildren, Nicholas Kirl, Morgan Kirl and Jadon Sandy; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her stepmother and a nephew.

There will be no visitation. Private burial will be in Evergreen South Cemetery. Arrangements by Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, south Parkersburg.

Richard K. Northrop

Richard K. "Dick" Northrop Sr., 78, of St. Marys, died May 4, 2002, at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Parkersburg.

He was born Oct. 9, 1923, in St. Marys, a son of the late John Bruce and Nellie Reynolds Northrop. He was a 1942 graduate of St. Marys High School, and attended West Virginia University. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the St. Marys Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He had been maintenance superintendent for the former Quaker State Oil Refinery, St. Marys, retiring after 43 years service. He had been a member of the Pleasants County Park Commission, a member of the Elks Lodge 1703 B.P.O.E., St. Marys, and had been active with the Boy Scouts of America.

He is survived by three sons, Richard K. "Rick" Northrop and his wife, Freda of St. Marys, John Bruce "JB" Northrop and his wife, Karen of Byron, Ill., and Robert P. "Bob" Northrop and his wife, Jo Ann of Pepperell, Mass.; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Velma Weber of St. Marys; one sister-in-law, Opal Northrop of St. Marys; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary E. "Betty" Harris Northrop; one daughter-in-law, Jo Ann Northrop; and one brother, Norman Northrop.

Virginia Ilene Nutter, formerly of Snow Hill-Mt. Nebo, WV, died April 6, 2002, at Worthington Manor, Parkersburg.

She was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Skelton, Raleigh County, a daughter of the late Leonard and Edna Webb.

Virginia was a member of the Hilltop United Methodist Church, a homemaker, a former leader of the Snow Hill Merry Makers 4-H Club, was a member of the Quinwood chapter of Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Green Valley Home Demonstration Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orange Nutter; one son, Dudley Nutter; one daughter Barbara Matheny; and one sister, Elizabeth Trout.

Survivors include four children, Janet Matheny of Vienna, Larry Nutter of Tampa, FL, Eddie Nutter of Belpre and Randy Nutter of St. Marys; two sisters, Olive Wills of Beckley, Patsy Green of Flat Top, WV; two brothers, Elbert Webb of Olmsted Falls, OH; Paul Webb of Ocean City, MD.; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
