In the book, History of Marshall County, by Scott Powell, 1925, LAWRENCE LANCASTER of Moundsville is named as one who was Killed in Action during World War I.
He was badly wounded but did not die during the war. (In the opinion of this writer.)

There is an article in the Pittsburgh Press on December 24, 1918, and also in The Washington Post, December 25, 1918, that names L. Lancaster, Moundsville, W.Va. as "Severely Wounded."
The West Virginia Blue Book, 1922, names "Lawrence Lancaster, Moundsville, W.Va.," as both slightly wounded and severely wounded.
In U. S., Army Transport Service, Passenger Lists, 1910-1939, Lawrence Lancaster, Service #94937, arrived on the ship "Manchuria" that was carrying sick and wounded from St. Nazaire, arriving at Hoboken, New Jersey on February 22, 1919. His contact was Margaret Lancaster, Atwood, Penna.
There is a Lawrence Larry Lancaster, born October 26, 1896 in Atwood, Tyler County, West Virginia. In the West Virginia Birth Records, his birth was a "Delayed Birth Record," filed in 1958. His parents are stated as Caleb Harrison Lancaster of Atwood, W. Va., and Margaret A. Bunting. The family lived in Green District, Wetzel County, in 1900 and 1910.
This Lawrence Lancaster enrolled in the National Guard at Massillon, Ohio in May 1917, and was discharged at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois on May 6, 1921. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
According to U.S. National Homes for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers, 1866-1938, Dayton, he was admitted for Chronic Osteomyelitis of right leg. Born in West Virginia, he lived in Sabina, Ohio.
In his WWII registration, he stated he was born in Wetzel County on October 26, 1896, and he was a resident of Sabina, Ohio. Lawrence Lancaster's wife was Mary Ferguson, and their 12 year old son, Lawrence Allen Lancaster, died in Sabina in 1943.
