Born on February 7, 1931 in Marshall County, West Virginia, Carl was the son of William "Encil" Oliver, born in Marion County, and Cloris Jane Porter, born in Marshall County. When the parents married on December 18, 1926 in Marshall County, Encil was living in Cameron, and Cloris was a resident of Woodruff.
At the time of the 1940 Federal Census of Marshall County, Encil and Cloris Oliver, both born in West Virginia, were residing in Liberty District with their children: William, 12; Edith, 11; Carl, 9; Jane, 5; Ray, 4, and Shirley, 2.
The father, Encil, the son of John R. Oliver and Mary Simms, was a brakeman for the B & O Railroad. He died January 8, 1943, age 37, of head injuries sustained when he was struck by a train. He is buried at Highland Cemetery, Cameron. Cloris Porter Oliver married Edward Fonner, of Woodruff, in Moundsville on September 21, 1945.
Carl Wayne Oliver married Pearl Elenor Hoschar.
The home of record for Carl was Lake Milton, Ohio on his casualty record. He was a Platoon Sergeant, Light Weapons Infantry, Company "B" 18th Infantry, 2nd Battalion.
Wife, Pearl E., died in 2017 and she is buried at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Columbiana County, Ohio.
MOTHER'S OBITUARY: Wheeling Intelligencer, June 15, 1960: Mrs. Cloris Jane Fonner, of Woodruff, W.Va., passed away Monday afternoon in Weston State Hospital, following a long illness. She was born July 2, 1912, in Marshall County, daughter of Mrs. Metta Terrell Porter Whipkey and the late William Porter. A member of the Nazarene Church, McMechen, she was preceded in death by her first husband, William Oliver, who died in 1944. Surviving, beside her mother, of Cameron, are her husband, George Fonner; and the following children: William Oliver, Benwood; Carl Oliver, with the U. S. Army in Germany; Junior Oliver, Sebring, Ohio; Mrs. Edith Fonner, Sebring; Mrs. June McFadden, Kankakee, Ill.; Mrs. Shirley Babbely, Alliance, Ohio; Mary, Wayne and Leon fonner, all at home, and Joyce Ann Fonner, Moundsville. Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Cleo Matthews, and one brother, Herman Porter, both of Cameron, R.D., and 14 grandchildren..... Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery.
WIFE'S OBITUARY: Pearl E. Hill, 77, of Flaherty, KY passed away Friday, April 21, 2017 at her residence. - She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Edlin Hill. Mrs. Hill is survived by four children, Yvonne Sanders, Carl Wayne Oliver, Kathy Oliver, Jakob Hill; eight grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a host of family & friends.
