Born on April 14, 1924, in Belington, Barbour County, West Virginia, William Skidmore was the son of Dewey D. Skidmore and Delphia Sturm, both born in Barbour County, and married there on January 13, 1923.
At the time of the 1930 Federal Census, the Skidmore family was living in Marion County, and Dewey worked for the State Police. Their children were William and Mary L.
From Marion County, the family moved to Elkins, Randolph County, based on the 1940 census that states they were living in Elkins in 1935. By 1940, they were living in Moundsville, and Dewey was still employed at the State Police.
On February 16, 1942, Dewey Skidmore registered for the WWII draft. He was 42 at that time and was employed at Weirton Steel.
William Skidmore, age 18, registered for the WWII Draft on June 30, 1942. He enlisted in the Air Corps at Fort Hayes, Columbus, Ohio on November 11, 1942.
On April 20, 1951, in Marin, California, William Skidmore married Delores Schout. Eight months later William was dead.
According to the Headstone Application, William was a First Lieutenant, and a pilot in the 84th Squadron, 78th Fighter Intercepter Wing.
William's wife was born in Illinois and she lived there after his death. She died in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois in 1994.
William's father, Dewey Dellet Skidmore, died in 1958, and mother, Delphia, died in 1987. They are buried at Riverview Cemetery, Moundsville.
William Skidmore's sister, Mary Louise Skidmore, born in 1925, married Robert Benjamin Remke in 1948 in Marshall County. She died there in 2011. She, too, is buried at Riverview Cemetery.

Remke; a brother, William Skidmore, and a sister, Pauline Skidmore. - Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Kathy) Remke of Austin, TX, and Rick (Donna) Remke of Apollo Beach, FL.; grandchildren, Robin (Joel) Kreuger of Copenhaven, Denmark, Rochelle Remke of NJ, Ronald Remke Jr. of NY, Angel (Troy) Pauleo of Tampa, FL., Erinn Remke of NY, and Aspen (Jake) Kahl of Apollo Beach, FL; thee great-grandchildren, Trent, Trevor and Tristen Pauleo.
The obituary mentions a sister, Pauline, but nothing has been found about her death.
