Leslie Paul Curtis enlisted on August 30, 1949. He died in an automobile accident on October 25, 1951 in Tokyo, Japan. Leslie (also Lesley) was born on March 23, 1931, possibly in Buckhannon, Upshur County, West Virginia. - The application for a government gravestone at Fork Ridge Christian Church Cemetery, Marshall County, was submitted by his sister, Virginia Mae Curtis of Glen Easton. Prior to his service, Leslie and Virginia had resided with Mr. & Mrs. James Pell of Fork Ridge. Virginia married Robert Lee Magers in 1954 and remained in the Moundsville area. Virginia’s marriage record names her parents as Sam and Lola Curtis, and says she was born in Buckhannon.
NOTE: While researching this soldier for my book, In The Service Of Their Country, Marshall County, West Virginia, I posted an inquiry to a genealogy site. A relative of this soldier replied. She (Julane1974 on Ancestry) communicated with the soldier's sister, Virginia Mae Curtis Magers, and she has provided an obituary and photo.
