Service Record: At age 35, joined for duty, enrolled & mustered in at Bellton (Marshall County) on Sept. 30, 1861. “Born at Wetzel, Va.” “Died of Typhoid Fever at Newark, W.Va. Aug. 1, 1862.” Capt. G. W. Parriott: “Died at Greenville, Wirt Co., W.Va. Aug. 1, 1862.”
W.Va. Adj. Gen. record: “Age 40. Farmer. Born Greene Co., Pa. Died at Greenville, W.Va. Aug. 1, 1862.”
Thomas was the son of William and Mary (possibly Bowen) Wood. He married Elmira Lemasters in 1844 in Tyler County. Children with Thomas, 39, and Elmira, 38, in the 1850 Wetzel County census were Clarissa, Delilah, Perdilia, Mary A. and Susan. After his wife died, Thomas married Delilah (Matheny) Postlethwait (as spelled in pension record) in 1861 in Wetzel County. In her pension application, Delilah named four minor children of the soldier: Mary A., born 1854; Susan, born 1857; Perdilla Jane, born 1853; John Thomas, born 1862. Delilah Wood, is named on the 1883 Pensioners Roll for Marshall County (Certificate #18.175), found on the Marshall County WVGenWeb site; her location was St. Joseph.
