Service Record: “Enlisted Sept. 10, 1862 at Wheeling. Born Monongalia County, West. Va. Died at Sir. John’s Run, W.Va. Jan. 16/63.” “Joined for duty & enrolled Aug. 11, 1862; mustered in Oct. 11, 1862 at Wheeling.” “Died in Hospital at Sir John’s Run, cause not reported, Jan. 17, 1863.” “Died jaundice.”
W.Va. Adj. Gen. record: “Enrolled at Marshall County, W.Va.; 30; mustered in Oct. 11, 1862 at Wheeling. Died Jan. 17, 1863 at Sir John’s Run, W.Va. cause unknown, or not given.”
He is one of 29 men who enlisted in this company in Marshall County, according to the records of the West Virginia Adjutant General. Many were from the Dallas-Sand Hill area.
His widow was Irena Moran, whom he married May 11, 1851 in Marion County. She applied for a pension on July 11, 1863 and received Certificate #19.395. Henry’s cause of death in the file was “Typhoid Fever.” Children under 16 were David, James and Joseph. Henry and Irena are buried at Pride Cemetery, Marion County.
