Also spelled Stevens. Service Record: At age 23, joined for duty, enrolled & at Fishing Creek (or Bellton); mustered in at Bellton, Marshall County, Oct. 2, 1861. “Died at home at Fishing Creek, Wetzel County, Va. May 25, 1862 from effects of measles.”
W.Va. Adj. Gen. record: “Born in Wetzel County.”
Daniel was the son of Stacy Stephens (1804-1889) and Maria Cumberledge (1810-1866). At the time of the 1850 census of Wetzel County, the Stephens children were John, 15; Israel, 14; Daniel, 12; F. M., 10; Lucey, 8; Isaac, 4; James, 1 month.
The father applied for a Dependent Father’s pension in 1886 and received Certificate #255712. The soldier, his parents, and other family members are buried at Stephens Cemetery, Pine Grove, Wetzel County.
