Rody...1-F...PAFREEMAN SCHNEIDER/SNYDER (I 2 Minn. Inf.) - From Minnesota in the Civil and Indian Wars 1861-1865, 1890: At age 18, enlisted in Co. I 2nd Minnesota Infantry; mustered in July 30, 1861. “Killed Sept. 20, 1863 at Chickamauga, Georgia.”
At the time of the 1850 census, Jacob and Sarah Snyder lived in Marshall County, (W.)Va. with their children, Josiah, 17; Daniel, 16; Eliza, 14; Simeon, 12; Harmon, 10; Catherine, 8; Freeman, 6; Lorenzo, 3; Rody, 1.
The family moved to Faribault Territory, Minnesota, and are listed in the 1857 census there: Jacob, 40; Sarah, 35; Simeon, 19; Harmon, 16; Freeman, 14; Lorenzo, 10; Rhody, 8; Mary, 6; and Franklin, 3.
By 1860, Sarah Schneider, 38, born in Pa., presumably a widow, was living in Minnesota with some of the children: Freeman, 17 (b Pa.); Lorenzo, 12 (b Pa.); Roda, 10 (b Pa.); Mary, 9 (b Va.); Franklin, 5 (b Iowa); Harriett, 3, (b Minnesota).
From The Story of a Regiment: Being a Narrative of the Service of the Second Regiment, Minnesota Veteran Volunteer Infantry, in the Civil War of 1861-1865, 1890: “Freeman Schneider, Private, Company “I”, Killed.”
HARMON SCHNEIDER/SNYDER (E 22 Iowa Inf.) - From Roster and Record of Iowa Soldiers in the War of the Rebellion: 17th-31st regiments, Infantry, 1910: “Harman Snyder - Age 23; Residence Agency City, nativity Pennsylvania. Enlisted in Aug. 18, 1862; mustered in Sept. 4, 1862. Wounded slightly May 22, 1863, Vicksburg, Miss. Died of disease July 9, 1863 at Vicksburg, Miss.”
(Note: According to a relative of this family, Jacob Snyder/Schneider had two wives named Sarah. The first, Sarah Enos, probably the mother of the two soldiers, died about 1845. The second Sarah was the mother of the children from Lorenzo on down.)
