Service Record: First enlistment & muster Oct. 14, 1861 (Cameron). At age 20, re-enlisted and mustered in Mar. 30, 1864 at Rowlesburg, W.Va. “Wounded, stunned by the bursting of a shell Aug. 1, 1864.” He was admitted to the hospital at Grafton on May 12, 1865, and was diagnosed with Acute Rheumatism. He stated he was a resident of Fishing Creek, Wetzel County. His nearest relative was James Musgrave, his father. “Died from asphyxia May 18, 1865.” No additional information about the death is given. James Musgrave received his effects. This name is also found as “Musgrove.”
W.Va. Adj. Gen. record: “Joined for duty & enrolled at Cameron on Oct. 1, 1861; mustered in Oct. 14, 1861 at Cameron. Farmer, 21, born in Wetzel Co., W.Va. Re-enlisted and mustered in as a Vet. Vol. Mar. 30, 1864 at Rowlesburg, W.Va. Died May 18, 1865 at US Genl. Hosp Grafton, W.Va.” He is buried at Anderson-Martin Cemetery, Jacksonburg, Wetzel County, W.Va.
