Service Record: Middle initial is stated as both “S” and “W.” At age 28, enlisted at Sand Hill. Joined & enrolled for duty on Aug. 13, 1862 at Marshall County. He mustered in at Wheeling on Oct. 11, 1862. “Born in Marshall County.” “Died in Hospital at Sir John’s Run. Cause, Febris Typhoides, Jan. 4, 1863.”

George Marsh was the son of Abraham Marsh, born in England, and Elizabeth Baird, residents of Sand Hill, Marshall County, and found in the 1850 & 1860 census records. George was a farmhand in 1860 and lived with Josiah and Elizabeth Turner; Elizabeth was his sister.

The grave of George Marsh is located at Sand Hill Methodist Cemetery, Marshall County.

Mother applied for a pension under George S. Marsh in 1870 and received Certificate #15729. After she died in 1877, the father applied for a pension under George S. Marsh and received Certificate #181595.
