He was the son of Bennett Gregg, who died in 1847, and Catherine Anderson, who died in 1869.
In the 1850 Marshall County census, Edward, 16, was present with his mother and the following siblings: William, 24; Isaac, 22; Jared H., 18; Doct Gans, 7; John W., 6. – “Gans” and Isaac both served in the 12th West Virginia Infantry. Gans, who was later known as “George Gans Gregg,” was likely named after the Moundsville physician, George Gans, who died in service.
Edward Gregg, his parents, and some siblings are buried at Greenview-Roberts Ridge Cemetery, Marshall County, presented on the Marshall County WVGenWeb website. The cause of Edward’s death is not known.
