Service Record: At age 22, joined for duty & enrolled on July 4, 1861 at Camp Hewes, Clarksburg; mustered in July 10, 1861. “Died of disease at Elkwater, Randolph County, W.Va. Mar. 4, 1862.”

W.Va. Adj. Gen. record: “Boatman. Born in Marshall County, W.Va. Died of congestion of the lungs Mch. 4, 1862 at Elkwater, W.Va.”

He was the son of Jacob Geho (1800-1867) and Mary Ann Ryan, residents of Marshall County. Following Mary Ann’s death, Jacob married Elizabeth Stewart in Tyler County on Feb. 14, 1850. They, including Joseph, age 11, are found in the 1850 census of Marshall County, with the spelling “Jehoe,” and the record indicates that Jacob and Elizabeth had married within the year. They lived in Tyler County in 1860, at which time Joseph was listed as age 22. He is buried at Grafton National Cemetery, Taylor County, W.Va.
