W.Va. Adj. Gen. record: “Farmer. Born in Greene County, Pa.”
He is buried at Grafton National Cemetery, Grafton, W.Va. “L. G. Geho” is on the grave marker. – Perhaps name recorded as “L. G.” based on his pronunciation of Elijah.
He was “Elijah,” the son of Joseph Geho and Sarah White, found in the 1860 census of Marshall County. At that time, the Geho children in the home were Elijah, 18; Robert, 16; Mary M., 14; Jacob, 21; Thomas M., 10; Margaret V., 10; Charlotte J., 5; Hester T., 7 months.
The mother of Elijah/L. G., identified as Sarah in her 1880 government pension application, received Certificate #203174.
SAMUEL W. GEHO (H 11 W.Va. Inf.) - Service Record: At age 23, joined, enrolled & mustered in at Bellton, Marshall County, on Oct. 1, 1861. “Born at Greene Co., Pa.” “Shot Feb. 11, 1862 at Elizabeth (Wirt County) by William F. Clayton while lying asleep.”
He was the son of Joseph Geho and Sarah White, found in the 1860 census of Marshall County. Samuel W. Geho, wife, Amy (Pyles), and son, Harland, lived next door to his parents in that census. Samuel had married Amy in Marshall County in 1857; record mistakenly names his mother as Hannah. The two mother’s names were switched; Amy’s mother was Hannah but was listed as Sarah.
Widow & children received pensions. Samuel was the older brother of L. G. (Elijah) Geho, who also died during the war. Amy Pyles Geho married James M. Pyles in 1881.
