Service Record: At age 20, joined for duty, enrolled & mustered in at Sistersville Aug. 7, 1861. “Killed at the Battle of Antietam, Sept. 17, 1862.” “Farmer. Born Marshall, Va.”

At the time of the 1850 Marshall County census, Franklin, age 8, was living with John Founds, Jr., 24, and his wife, Jane (Ferrel), 21, married in 1849. They had an infant son, Alexander. John Founds, Jr. was likely Franklin’s uncle. A number of genealogies indicate that Franklin was the son of Jefferson Founds and Mary Bonar, married in Marshall County in 1839. Jefferson, the son of John & Nancy Founds, was an inmate in the Ohio State Penitentiary at the time of the 1850 census; the record states he was incarcerated for Manslaughter. - No pension application filed.
