Service Record: At age 18, enlisted at Silver Hill Sept. 5, 1861. “Born in Wetzel County.” Joined for duty, enrolled & mustered in at Bellton on Sept. 30, 1861. “Died at U.S. General Hospital, Parkersburg, on the 19th day of May 1864 of Inflammation of Pleura.” Final Statement: “Born in Hampshire County, W.Va.” Hospital record: “Residence, Marshall County.” Stephen Bloyd, Bellton, was listed as nearest relative.

The family of Stephen and Mary Bloyd, both born in Maryland, lived in Marshall County at the time of the 1850 census, with the following children: John, Stephen, Joseph, James and Martin. In the 1860 census, only his brother, Stephen, is found.
