“Died on June 27, 1864 during the assault of Cheatham Hill, in the battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Georgia.” Buried at Marietta National Cemetery, Cobb County, Georgia, Grave #9219. There is also a memorial marker at Dana Cemetery in Dana, Illinois.

From Illinois Civil War Muster and Descriptive Rolls Detail Report: "Nativity, Moundsville, Marshall County, Va. Residence, Olio, Woodford County, IL."

According to family history, he was born on October 9, 1841 at Moundsville, the son of Joseph C. Bane (1818-1885) and Mary Foster (1817-1898), who married on Dec. 7, 1837 in Marshall County. (Joseph the son of Mordecai Bane and Elizabeth Beeler.) The Joseph Bane family resided in Marshall County in 1840, per census and tax records (Marshall County WVGenWeb), but moved to Wetzel County before 1850, and to Olio, Woodford County, Illinois before 1860.
