Allice B...1-wf...VAWidow’s Pension, Certificate #27544: “The rolls show that James Anderson was mustered as a private 17th Aug. 1862, at Davenport, Iowa, and died at General Hospital, Mound City, Illinois, January 28,1864. Surgeon H. Wardner certifies that said Anderson died of Typhoid Fever.” It is also stated that he had Chronic Diarrhea. He is buried at Mound City National Cemetery, Ill. The death date is stated as Jan. 29 but that is when he was buried.
According to the record of their marriage, Mar. 10, 1858, in Marshall County, W.Va., James Anderson, born in Harrison County, Ohio, married Frances E. Snider, born in Marshall County. They were both residents of Marshall County, he the son of Benjamin & Nancy Anderson, and she the daughter of M. & C. Snider.
James and Frances are found in the 1860 census living in Marshall County with their daughter Allice, born in Dec. 1858. Another daughter, Mary C., was born in April 1860.
At the time of her Widow’s Pension application, Frances E. Anderson was a resident of Beeler’s Station, Marshall County. Later, her P. O. address was Limestone. She remained a widow, lived in San Diego, Calif., and died July 16, 1920.
The parents of James Anderson, Benjamin and Nancy, were living in Harrison County, Ohio in 1850, at which time their children were John, 20; Thomas, 18; James, 16; Mary, 14; Benjamin, 10; George, 9; Joseph, 7; Malila, 3. A Susanna McDavid was also in the home. By 1860, the family was residing in Marshall County. Children still in the home were Benjamin, George, Joseph H., and Malilah J. - The father died in 1869, his wife in 1886, and they are buried at Weeks Cemetery, Belmont County, Ohio.
