Atkisson-Comer Cemetery

Location: Romance.
The Atkisson Cemetery sits on the property of Mr. Adam George Atkisson, son of George Washington Atkisson. It is also sometimes called the Comer cemetery or the Atkisson-Comer Cemetery.

    Atkisson, Frances Thomas    b. Dec. 18, 1903    d. Apr. 25, 1989 Born Romance, Jackson Co, WV; died Ripley, Jackson Co.   
  • George was the son of Prince Albert Atkisson and Mahalia Shamlin. His father died when he was very young, and his mother remarried a man named Henry J. Comer. George married Fannie Brillhart on December 25, 1907 in Kanawha County and they had at least four children: Arma, Alfred, Grover, and Buddy. Fannie died before 1920, and George married Frances Thomas on April 17, 1920 in Romance, Jackson County. They had at least ten children: Frona, Devona, Arnold, Lona, Clarence, Sybil, Ethel, Adam, Edith, and Freddie. At the time of his death he was a retired farmer and a member of the Advent God Church of Romance.

In 1910, they were living next to her son, George Atkisson, Mahala had been married twice. Their marriage record shows she was Mahala Atkins, widow.]   

  • Comer, Quinten Guy    b. Jul. 6, 1952    d. Oct. 31, 1963 [death record shows he was the son of Jack Comer and Freddie Atkisson (d/o George & Frances (Thomas) Atkisson)]

  • Comer, Wilbur    b. unknown d. unknown    [Probably son of Henry J and Mahala Comer. In 1910, Wilbur V was age 5]

  • Haynes, ___    b. unknown    d. 1916

  • Haynes, Robert    b. unknown    d. 1912
